Because there's days I don't have furniture makeovers to show you - I've chosen Wednesdays to showcase and feature one home that's for sale around here.................( or apartment - or duplex - or teepee )
_________________________________________________________________________________
Good mornin', good mornin'!
I've painted the whole night through,
good mornin', good mornin' to you.
Good mornin', good mornin'!
It's great to stay up late,
good mornin', good mornin' to you.
When the paint began to set
the sun was shinin' bright.
Now the wax is still quite wet
it's too late to say goodnight.
So, good mornin', good mornin'!
Sunbeams will soon smile through,
good mornin', my bloggers, to you.
And on to this weeks feature!
I just love the color of the exterior stone - looks like red clay - and those dormer window are beyond charming
Nice wide entrance way - a lot of these houses are very narrow - I love that this one's wide - I'm also loving the light - and the benches - and the board and batten walls - and the radiator ( I LOVE RADIATORS!!! )
Living room - love the fireplace -
big enough to accomodate 2 sofas - a chair - and a piano - amazing, considering one wall is designated for a fireplace ( please keep in mind these are city homes - and I know they are not so large by suburbian standards )
I know this is not as state of the art as some of the previous ones - but I can't tell you how much I love this room -
It's definitely my favorite so far - I love the mix of contempory and country and think they nailed it - those pendant lights are to die for!
Ok - I'm actually speechless now - I so want to be sitting there having a glass of tea and just staring into the garden
Let's go upstairs
again - I'm speechless
Love the window - and the built in cover for the radiator - hmmm - where does that door lead to?
Oh - it's the master bedroom deck!!! - can you just imagine a couple of lounges - or even day beds out here?
How adorable is the garden?
parking spot in back ( parking is also a premium in the city - a garage is great - but a parking pad will do!
And there you have it - no photos of the basement or bathrooms ( or secondary rooms for that matter ) but I'm happy with what I've seen so far - yours for 1,695,000.00
And I would definitely live there :)
Ok - this next feature is a BONUS for anyone who's a history buff.....................
This summer there was an article written up on an old Victorian cottage in the city of Montreal ( not my neighbourhood but I'm making an exception this week - because this is unbelievable ) about a home that a doting husband and father built for his family in 1920. Be prepared to don your Mrs. Havisham garments
( if you don't know who Mrs. Havisham is please get yourself a copy of Great Expectations )
He was a contractor - and so paid extra attention to craftmanship and details - making it state of the art for the time.....................
I was thrilled to find it while looking at real estate to show for today's post - this is the first time it's been listed - ever.
They lived in this house until their passing, and a son and daughter ( who had never left home ) remained until their eventual passing as well.
Nothing has been touched - ( Grey Gardens anyone? ) and it almost feels sacriligeous to go wandering around their home - because it is a sacred tribute to days gone by - to street cars - and oil lamps - to
boys in short pants and girls in pinafores - to newspaper vendors on corners yelling out the days news to corner drugstores and mom & pop shops. I'm a lover of history and a lover of homes so this fits me like a glove.
I hope you can see past the condition it's in and imagine it in all of it's glory 92 years ago when a young bride must have surely gasped in delight when she first entered her new home. I see past the decrepit shape it's in - and see romance ( John sees one of the ugliest houses he's ever seen in his life so be prepared ) I LOVE IT and would love to get my hands on it and lovingly restore it back to it's original splendour - oh and I would love to have the furniture too.
I have to send you to the link - cannot copy and paste the photos - they paste as itsy bitsy teen weeny yellow polka dot bikini photos....................so if you don't have the time, it's ok, but you are missing out on something pretty spectacular if you don't click on the link below - if a home can be eerie and frightening and romantic and beautiful at the same time, then this is it - it's right out of To Kill a Mocking Bird!
Have a Wonderful Wednesday everyone

YOU HAD ME AT THE FRONT DOOR.
That's it. I'm moving. What the hay, my ancestors are from Montreal so I guess I'll just be moving back to the homeland, right?
THAT HOUSE IS TO DIE FOR AND IT MUST BE SAVED.
and I sing the good morning song every morning....
Paula
I love the kitchen of the first house. Would love to have seen the owners mix the styles within the rooms, rather than one room one way, and another the next way. As for the 2nd house....WOW.. it looks like a movie set. I find grown kids living at home a bit creepy so the look of the house fits the bill, but what potential that has. Thanks for showing us that one.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I too loved the kitchen! And I could live here also! Thanks for stopping by my blog! And I follow you too now! Off to view the other house!
ReplyDeleteLBDH
Thanks so much!!!
DeleteWOW! My mouth is open. This home, the one from the link, is awesome! I'm speechless! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLBDH
Loved that first house- the kitchen is absolutely wonderful-as is the whole house. I am off to check the other old place out- you had me with the grey gardens reference. I am fascinated by that and read everything I could get my hands on about it. Have a great day and for gravy's sake- get some sleep! xo Diana
ReplyDeletei seriously could not even imagaine living there !! of course, i just bought a hundred year old farmhouse with only 750 sq ft !!! haha...great post !
ReplyDeleteI went over and looked at that old estate. OMG- Would I LOVE to get my hands on that!!! What a thing of grandeur she was in her time! The furniture is still in there, too. Amazing. Did you notice it looks like that one bedroom has upholstered walls? xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThat intro made me giggle....it's what I sing to my kids every morning! Love the kitchen with it's black and white checkered floors.
ReplyDeleteThat is one dark, gloomy scary ass house right there! Creepy as all get out. But the potential! Ye gods!!! If I had the cash to renovate it i'd buy it right away! I'm sort of glad they don't show the kitchen!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Lil - my computer crashed a few weeks ago and lost all my contacts - and because you're on Word Press you come through as a no reply blogger!!!
DeleteI'd buy it too if I could - isn't it something else?
Hugs,
Moi
I would love to have the chance, time and money to get my hands on this one.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
This is beyond gorgeous! Can I live there too? Yes, looking past the darkness and gloom, I can see the romance.
ReplyDeleteAt first I didn't get the tune right.... I was singing to the Beatles.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Omg - the link to the old house is amazing. it is full of past life and history. like a time capsule. shame about the moisture damage upstairs a sign of hard times. such history. and the million dollar one well I'd move in tomorrow if I had the bucks. patty/BC
ReplyDeleteI love that Patty - that's exactly what it is - a Time Capsule - hmmm - why didn't I think of that?
DeleteHugs,
I LOVE spooky old victorians and that second house is amazing! My husband and I have always wanted to buy one like that and restore it but we just don't have the money. Thanks so much for stopping by my site! I am following along with you now too. :)

Hi,
ReplyDeleteI'm with you I would love to live there. It think it's funny that they refer to as a "cottage". Doesn't look like any cottage I've seen. Oh to have the money to be refurbish. The furniture is great.
Thanks for sharing,
Cathy
Hi Cathy - in Canada a cottage is also a real estate term for a 2 storey - weird I know - I think of a quaint little Cottage when I hear that word!
DeleteIt's a beautiful home. I live in an area with older homes and love how different and special each one is.
ReplyDeleteDee
I just came by from the blog hop and it was so worth it...I want to live there too!! This actually gave me an idea for a room I am about to redo! Please come by and say hello! I enjoyed your post and your blog!
ReplyDeleteI want to live there too! Stopping by from Thursdays Favorite Things blog, come by for a visit.

Oh my goodness, that is a beautiful city home! I would use the deck and the garden area to grow as much produce as I could...how lovely...maybe even convert part of the roof into growing space (I love to garden and can always spot that potential). :)
ReplyDeleteThe house you provided the link to is stunning! Sadly it is so run down that I fear someone will remodel it to where no one would recognize it for the gem it once was. I really hope that a romantic like you is able to purchase the home.
This was a lovely spot to stop at today, thank you for such a lovely post!
Good Day Suzan!!!
ReplyDeleteThe first house is amazing. There wasn't one thing I didn't like about it. The 1920s house was absolutely gorgeous. The wood siding is incredible and I really noticed the lighting!!! The chandeliers we stunning!!!
I agree with Joyness Sparkles, People want "Modern" and really can't appreciate the beauty in vintage homes like this. I really hope the new owner has an appreciation for all the hard work the husband put into it.
Have a great day!!
Pam
This house is a real stunner. It's amazing what updating an old house can turn out like. I love the old architectural details mixed with new lighting and paint. The bonus house has so much potential if a new owner can see past the dilapidated condition of the house. I hope it gets a loving owner soon.
ReplyDeleteThe second house is stunning in that it is untouched. I think it has the original wallpaper and the woodwork and lighting are to die for. But...this is the one time I'm agreeing with John. It has haunting written all over it! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI'm so in love with that entryway you started with that I'm going to post a picture of it on the wall in my entryway. Mine is pretty close in size and deminsions, but doesn't have the charm of the one you featured. I need to add that light hanging down, that board and batten, etc. So glad you shared this home as I now see putting lots of color in a house can be done well.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it something else ( wow lucky you to have one so similar! )
DeleteXOX
Amazing home! I would LOVE to have a kitchen like that...well, really, many rooms like that. Ok, the whole house! :)
ReplyDeleteThe 2nd is amazing in its own right too. We could really make a showplace out of it, right?
xo
