John says - Yeah - it looked ridiculous
Suzan says - Could you bring it upstairs please?
John says - Oh no - what do you want to do with it this time?
Suzan says - I have an idea
John says - Please don't Suzan - enough with the ladders ok?
Suzan says - I'll get it myself..............
Now before all of you think I'm really a spoiled brat that can't even go into the dungeon to get a ladder - here's a little background on that -
John has it in such a state of filth that I can't find anything down there - every day - and I mean EVERY single day he tells me he's going to organize it - and every single day it just seems to get worse.
SO - when I threaten to go down and get something - he trips up over himself to keep me out of it.
Plus it's really a terrifying space down there - most of it is a 100 year old dirt cellar - with a small section that was cemented in by the previous owners.
John brought the ladder up - and I got busy painting it - while I was painting the floor.
Suzan says - Come look John, tell me what you think
John says - Get it out of the bedroom Suzan , come on, really, it doesn't belong there at all
Suzan says - I love it - I absolutely love it there
John says - Why don't you paint the drill and saw and dangle them off of it?
John says - Why don't you paint the sander and rest it on one of the rungs?
John says - Why don't
Suzan says - ENOUGH !
John says - Well if you're going to turn the bedroom into a workspace we should just keep everything
all together
Suzan says - Don't you know that it's a " look " ?
Suzan says - It's called Rustic Prairie...........
Suzan says - I can hang magazines from it - or throws - or
John cuts me off - What the hell is that sparkly thing inside of it?
Suzan says - A bit of bling
John says - What the hell is a bling?
John says - Do you invent these words?
Suzan says - IT'S BLING - GLITZ - SPARKLE !!!!!!!!!! And it's for a tea light
John says - You're going to set the house on fire lighting a candle inside a wood ladder, are you nuts?
Suzan says - I'm not going to light a candle John - it's just a " look "
John says - This has to be the most non functional house on the planet - everything's for show -
Suzan says - Ok - conversation's over - Just wanted to know if you like it - guess I've got my answer
John says - But it's staying, right?
Suzan says - Right
Suzan say s- Just consider it my end table!
A little later.................watching T.V. - out of the blue
John says - Where's the measuring tape?
Suzan says - In the tool box, why?
John says - I'm going to bring up my golf clubs - I think I'm going to decorate that corner over there
with them,
Suzan says - you'd better be willing to paint them white if they're coming in here...........................
Thanks SO much for the feature!!!

Bwuahahahhahaa...bet the golf clubs don't come anywhere near the room, lolol
ReplyDeleteBig hugs for always making me laugh.
Oh, and the ladder looks great. :)
ReplyDeleteLol, oh John, I want to see those clubs in white in the corner of the room. I love the blunted up ladder!
ReplyDeleteHAhahahahahaha!!! Luv the 'blinged' out ladder. :-) I know the clubs won't make it in...
ReplyDeleteHugs, Gee
LOL - thanks Gee - no the clubs won't come in - but wouldn't an antique set painted in white look great?
DeleteXOX
LOL White gold clubs might look nice lol you could be starting a trend lol
ReplyDeleteHilarious! I've been eyeballing one of my hubbys ladders...I totally get this! The ladder looks great! I love you and Johns conversations! Your blog always makes my day :)
ReplyDeleteOh you are cracking me up this morning! I love the ladder and you'e reminded me that I have one of those old ladders that convert into a stool....outside...under my deck. It's probably a mess..been there for years. Thanks for the inspiration...or I should say, Sam will probably be thanking you in a less gracious manner when he has to go dig it out and get all of the spiders off of it!! Nice post and poor John!
ReplyDeleteSo cute, I love that you are writing these cute little conversations down. I wish I could do that with me and my family, so much I want to remember. I don't know where to find the time :(
ReplyDeleteI also love the ladder, think it looks great, and of course the bling, hehe.
Have a wonderful day!!
Hugs, Bella :)
Bella's 40 Day Challenge
These men just don't understand do they? Love the ladder and the "look" you have created!

hugs Alyson x

DeleteThanks so much!

Loving it!! I've got three vintage ladders in the store for display. I love the look. Vintage meets bling. Met a girl this weekend that works in the construction industry, she used Chalk Paint to paint her tools Antoinette. Solved her problem of things disappearing. lol. Mmmmm, can just imagine John on the golf course with his painted golf clubs.
ReplyDeleteLOL
ReplyDeleteThe ladder looks great there!
I love the ladder corner. It gives me ideas of my own ...... hee hee. It's so funny - I was wondering what the sparkly thing was just as John asked. Love it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Daena!!! It's BLING - lol
DeleteXOX
Suzan LOL you crack me up. I love this post. I have similar conversations with my hubby. I told me husband about what your hubby said about the golf clubs and he said hmmmmmmm maybe mine need to come into our bedroom. I told him the same thing only if they are painted white and are chippy and have some burlap and bling on them!!!!! So far the clubs are still hanging in the garage!!!!!! You made me smile today with this post. Very cute.
ReplyDeleteKris
The ladder looks great. I have had a ladder in my bedroom for years. My husband made it into a shelf to hold some of the dolls from my collection. Your story made me smile though, as this is often the same process we all go through to get our way
ReplyDeleteglad you are putting your foot down and the ladder is staying :)
ReplyDeleteYour posts are so much fun to read!!
ReplyDeletethanks so much Lynn!
DeleteXXX
Hahaha! Tell him the ladder is handy for when he wants to climb the walls!
ReplyDeleteHmm, golf clubs. Let's see. You could hang them up on the walls crisscrossed and hang stuff from them, some bling, lol!
It's time for John to find a hobby - something that gets him away from you when you're "creating". My husband hides in his "office" and just shakes his head.
ReplyDeleteLove the ladder, by the way. Been looking for one for my kitchen. I had one, but silly me, sold it at the booth months ago. Before I knew I NEEDED one.
Don't you get it Heather?
DeleteJohn's " hobby " is driving me nuts - he enjoys it!!!
That - and golf - 2 of his favorite things...............lol

It's like reading my weekly conversation on the phone with my grandmother (don't tell that to John). She doesn't get my ideas at all! Once I brought an old milk bucket back from an attic-sale and when I told her, she only said: "What's the point, you don't have cows and don't even drink milk!" She also thinks I'm being ridiculous painting everything white! I love the ladder... I wonder what my grandmother would say about it!
ReplyDeleteOOOOOHHH! I LOVE it! It definitely has a 'look' and it's a good one :) I have an old wood ladder I bought to use somehow. Haven't moved it from the front porch yet but I really should do something fun with it for spring. You can show it to John when I get done with it and inform him you aren't the only one who thinks old ladders have a 'look'!
ReplyDeleteNow men just don't get it! Is this the post that you are trying to link up? I am sorry that you are having trouble...if you can let me know what post it is..maybe I can help out.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
John's a funny man, and I am sure if you put your mind too it you could display some of his clubs without painting them just for a joke. DO IT!
ReplyDeleteBliss
They will NEVER "get it". NEVER! Now if you told him that you would be willing to wear a see through negligee and stand in front of it he might like it better....or....maybe not......xo Diana ps..and then you could join What I Wore Monday~just sayin'
ReplyDeleteI think it is very cute there-what do MEN know??
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
That ladder is sooo fabulous!! Your decor vignettes are always so lovely Suzan, and men just don't get it at all. I had a similar wooden ladder, but sold it during one of my crazed purges... before I stared blogging. Wish I had it now!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the ladder and the whole conversation between you and John. Priceless!
ReplyDeletePlease tell John I do know of someone who takes old golf bags and clubs, paints them and makes them into man cave lamps. They sound hideous, but actually are really rather manly. I love the ladder, but I know you have something else up your sleeve for that corner.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I remember these conversations with my ex-husband....:)
ReplyDeleteThe ladder is totally darling!
Jeanette @ Creating a Life
You've converted him!!! He's starting think about decorating with the different! I wonder if the paint would affect his drive...maybe he'll develop a slice.
ReplyDeleteLOL Suzan, this is the funniest yet! Had to cover my mouth with my arm so I didn't wake Larry. LOL
Oh, and I love the ladder!
Debbie :)
Hi Suzan!!!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know where to begin!! LOL
It's hilarious!!! I think having a ladder in the bedroom is a great idea. What if there's a fire? You're all ready with your very own ladder. How cool is that?
I could use one as a book shelf...Hey!!!! Why don't I get one too?? My husband would go nuts.
I love your idea of the old white set of golf clubs. Brilliant.
Have a great week!!!
Pam

Sorry!!! I didn't mention how much I love your ladder. I think it really suits the bedroom decor.

"What the hell is that sparkly thing?" Bwaaahahahaha!
ReplyDeletehahahahaha,,,,,,sounds like home.
ReplyDeleteHubs and I both love antiques and retro items, (thank God) and recently got a retro table and chairs and an antique ladder that was hanging horizontally in the store. They delivered the table, chairs and ladder and the things about 12' long!! So glad we have cathedral ceilings. I'll post in my blog when hubs remembers to give me the cord for camera hook-up. (He probably mis-placed it) Oh, and the basement thing? Except for the dirt floor, well ours might as well be dirt,it's sooo bad. I'm not allowed there because of asthma!
ReplyDeleteJanet
WOW that's going to be gorgeous - 12 feet long!
DeleteCan't wait to see that !
Big hugs,
Suzan
How funny! You crack me up! But I love the ladder.
ReplyDeleteIf I had old non functional tools - I'd paint them white and hang them on it just to freak him out LMHO.
DeleteThanks so much Rita
Hugs,Suzan
Suzan,
ReplyDeleteToo funny!
You know, I was just eye-balling a ladder out in our shop the other day hanging way up high out of my reach. I asked my hubby why it was up there, he said it was old and didn't need to be used...I could hurt myself if I climbed on it. So I mention to him about all the decorating I seen around Xmas time using old ladders. He just rolls his eyes and asks why I would even want to bring it into the house for such a thing....Men, they just don't get it do they?? lol
Cute post Suzan ...you and John have so much fun together. Love the ladder. I have had two really nice ones and used them outside and they fell apart ... so putting them in the house is the answer.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Audrey Z. @ Timeless Treasures
This is soooo funny I was laughing out loud, BECAUSE...your writing/your exchange is of course hilarious, and so imaginable, AND because about three weeks ago I brought an old ladder up to OUR bedroom--one WE bought in Amish country years ago, jammed into our car, and I think he's been privately thankful that it has stayed in the basement. His silence on it is DEAFENING lol!! I think he's waiting until the "project" is complete.... Isn't marriage wonderful?! I think you should find that old golf bag (I have the clubs for you), paint it all white and put it in your room! Thanks for the laugh! ~Zuni
ReplyDeleteYou are too funny Susan...thanks for you blog!! smile....
ReplyDeletewant to meet you if I ever come to Montreal...
And if you come to Portland OR..or Salem you are most welcome.....love to meet you and go shopping at antique shops etc....
I will be in Europe this summer for 6 weeks. My husband plays music and we travel often. www.johndoan.com He played the Harp Guitar at the Jazz fest in Toronto a few times. I sometimes go to NY.
You MUST let me know if you're ever in Montreal - I'm surprised you haven't been here for the Jazz Fest ( the biggest in N.A. )!!!!

Sounds like my hubby!!!! I love it!!! I'm your newest follower!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Christy - welcome!

Suzan
as always, you (JOHN!) crack me up!!!! ohhhhhhhhhh wow. The ladder looks awesome. Tell him I have 4 in my house. Haha. :)
ReplyDeletep.s. don't worry, I know you had this idea long before you saw mine! I remember!! :) xo
Well the thought crossed my mind to paint it turquoise after I saw yours LOL
Delete4 ladders?
He'd have a nervous breakdown LOL
XOX
are you giggling all the time at your house? John is a constant source of laughter and great bloggy inspiration. Thank you for sharing at the hop xo
ReplyDeletehaha. I'm new to your blog, your conversation cracked me up. I literally just told my hubby we need to get a ladder for our guestroom we are redoing and got a similar response..too bade I don't have a basement I can grab one from, I have to find it. Yours is terrific (as is its bling)
ReplyDeleteHi Christina!!! Glad to meet you - be forewarned - this is not a normal blog LOL
DeleteGood luck on your hunt for a ladder!
Hugs,
Suzan
I happened onto your blog from another blog and that from another one...you know the drill. Thank you for my laugh of the day...am so happy to follow you. This should be the tutorial site for all husbands....I think i have his TWIN!
ReplyDeleteme: can you clean off your work table so I can use it to hammer a few things on please?
Him: WHAT? You have every room in the house as YOUR space and now you want to use MINE? Find your own space to pound with the hammer.
(note to side; he made me a 10'x 4' work table and i have a 4'x6' glass top to work on. can't pound things with a hammer there unless i want a new table top.)
got an unexpected bonus and asked if we could use it for a playhouse/workshop for me play house for the grandkids to play in.
NOW I have my own work table to pound things on....
him: why are you putting so much pink and light colors in here? I won't want to work in this girly place.......
me: isn't that a shame?
I love the ladder especially with the added bling. :) BTW - sounds like conversations we have had in this house lol
ReplyDeletelol - thanks so much Tammy!!!
DeleteBling?
What the hell is a Bling LMHO
XOX
LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is HYSTERICAL!!!!
He's hilarious - I'm telling ya - and he's always so dead serious LMHO
DeleteXOX
You handled that well!
ReplyDeleteLove this...Your John sound like my husband... I have a golf ball sitting on the globe...lol his way of making his mark....You gotta love them!
ReplyDeleteI have one leaning by my front door adorned with a variety of things. My son doesn't get it either. Any of it. John has a point about the drill, sander, etc. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until such things are also being worked in to decorating schemes everywhere, right? I mean, if you look at some of the stuff we decorate with, it would seem that it's just a matter of time until it follows. Glad to see you got your ladder and your bling. It looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteLiz
You had me in stitches. My husband doesn't get it either. I put a quilt on the dining room table - it looked REALLY CUTE! My son came over and said, "how convenient, if I get tired I can just sleep on the dining room table." I think they really like it all, but just like to tease.
ReplyDeleteBTW- how do the white golf clubs look in the corner?
hahahahahahaha!
ReplyDeleteLMHO - he's hilarious, right?
DeleteAND DEAD SERIOUS!!!
XXX
What a cute corner!! I loved reading your conversation. Did the golf clubs ever make it to your bedroom? teehee
ReplyDeleteI love your ladder too! Thanks for sharing it. One of these days I'm going to get around to making one!
ReplyDeleteLove the ladder, the bling and the entire post! What a great exchange you two had. :)
ReplyDeleteTypical man haha. Just found your post. I quess it is called shabby chic. I laughed all through your post. We all need to laugh keep it up.

Oh girl you two are at it again. Laughing as I type! I love ladders and always pick them up when I run across them. When I go out thrifting hubby says, "just don't bring home any more old ladders, windows, or doors." Alas, his words always seem to slip my mind. lol! Love it in all of it's shabby white glory. Oh, and let's not forget the bling. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
Poor John. If only he knew we all know about his conversations [giggle].
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up at Shabbilicious Friday this week Suzan.
