It's no secret that I'm a little obsessed with Paris for those of you that have been following for awhile.
For many years John and I stayed at a little hotel near the Eiffel tower - and a couple of times we had a room there with a view of it.
( if I'm very honest with you any view of anywhere in Paris is pretty spectacular - but for the sake of this post I'll stick with a view of the Eiffel Tower )
It's also no secret that once I discovered Pinterest I went a little crazy...............
I have 310 pins on Paris alone - and some of my favorite ones are windows with a view................
You can see all my Paris Pins HERE ( it's my favorite board by far )
source |
All I knew was that no DIY blogger could ever live with themselves if they let it go.................
(A year ago I would have been quite disgusted by it - do you see what you all have done to me here?)
Last night I was adding some images to Pinterest - when an idea was born!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted a room with a view - a precise view actually - a view of the Eiffel Tower................
And so I scrubbed the window and gave it a very light coat of ASCP Pure white- a very light coat because I wanted it to retain it's vintage look ( but it was a bit too creamy - yellow for me )
I then printed out a photo of the tower on regular paper - and scurried off to Block Poster to resize it.
This is a very quick project - really - quick projects are the only ones I do since I have zero patience.
I need instant gratification - or I'm easily distracted and on to the next one lol - this was about as instant as
I could get
First I took
like this ( that's how lazy I am )
then I cut around the edges - and taped them to each panel.................
You see? A very simple way to have a temporary view of your favorite city or neighborhood ( or neighbor for that matter LMHO ) and it could be changed whenever you felt like " moving " to another part of the world..............Tuscany would be amazing wouldn't it?
up close it's pixelated because of enlarging it -
but from a distance ( God is watching us )
it's the perfect view for me to rest my eyes upon
Paris in the rain?
John stared at me as I was spraying the window with one hand and trying to take a photo with the other
John says - What are you doing exactly? Showing people that you washed it?
Suzan says - No - I'm showing them a view of Paris on a rainy day..............
John says - Why don't you toss some confetti at it to show it with snow?
John says - You know 50 or so years ago they locked women like you up - and walks away chuckling
He's saying that a lot lately - should I be worried?
Suzan says - Laugh if you want John - I know everyone else will appreciate the image
John says - You going to tell them you stood there with a spray bottle LOL ?
John doesn't know I have plans for him now - I want a HUGE one like this - and I mean huge - he's going to have to build the window from scratch LOL
For now it rests against my wall of mirrors on my dresser - and just happened to be the first thing I saw when I opened my eyes this morning - a nice way to start my day ( as you can see, it had stopped raining by then )
Have a great one everyone!!!
Enjoy the view, where ever you are :)

Good morning Suzan. You are so fun and funny too. I love your view of the Eiffel Tower through your rain splashed window. Amazing! Love the old window. Have a great day! Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteAhhh Torture him, it's good for men to know they're NOT the center of the earth.....a window with a view is!
ReplyDeleteXO,
Christine
LOL Christine - thanks!!!
DeleteVery very cool!
ReplyDeleteHey lady I am very proud of you not only do you paint wicked furniture that makes us drool over you now show us your crafty side. You are a very talented lady -love dee x
ReplyDeleteOH MON DIEU!!!!!! Unfreakinbelieveable!!! Totally love it!! I'm so stealing, um borrowing, this idea. lol. To quote Gabrielle in the movie Midnight in Paris, "Actually, Paris is most beautiful in the rain".
ReplyDeleteYou are just a dang genius.
ReplyDeletexoxo
-andi
oo la la!!! That is amazing!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! We, too, stayed in a small hotel with a view of the Eiffel Tower and this is a great way to remember it. I may be doing a knock-off of this!!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate the image. Serio.
ReplyDeleteI love it. I have a window that my dad made before he died. He used to make custom windows for historic homes, because, you know, they couldn't just go to Lowe's and buy a replacement window for an 1820s home, and this was one of his samples. Now I FINALLY know what I can do with it! Thanks for this! -Dawn @ We Call It Junkin
ReplyDeleteOh Suzan, it is fabulous!.. so creative you are!... I am French, but have never even been to Paris... I would love to visit Soual, (near Toulouse) where all my ancestors are from... maybe I should make myself a window with a view as well... I love your tutorial... I have ZERO patience too, and want my projects done NOW... and to look PERFECT... like yours... and the rain drizzling down... sigh... what a beautiful way to start my day too... Merci!... Bisous... Julie Marie
ReplyDeleteOh my god, you have got to be the most creative lady I know! This is wonderful. As I was reading your post and got farther and farther down and started realizing what you were going to do with the window I started getting excited to see the end result. FABULOUS! I love the added touch of the rain. I actually have a photo of Paris in the rain that I use a my desktop wallpaper at work so this is right up my alley!
ReplyDeleteNever wanted an old window before, but this is a great idea. Great gift for my Paris-loving son.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome and I bet John's secretly happy you made such good use of the treasure you found. :)
ReplyDeleteI am an instant gratification diy'er as well. I try to do things while my husband is at work though so I don't get all those stupid questions. ;) Sometimes though I have to laugh when I see it from his point of view.
ReplyDeleteI do like your window with a view! One of my favorites. I read someone who said it had to be photoshopped though as there is no window that could possibly have that view so close to the Eiffel Tower. I say they are a poopoo'er and need to find something constructive to do. ;)
Ha, I just checked out your board (I've been there before), stole some pins, and checked to see which of my boards had the highest number of pins. Paris. :) I don't have as many as you though, I love your board!
ReplyDeleteOh Suzan.......... Love love love this. That came out gorgeous. See old windows, doors and shutters when you repurpose them can become beautiful works of art!!!!!! This is spectacular my friend. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteKris
This is my favorite project of yours ever!! (Not counting your furniture of course..that's another category!) What a great way to wake up! LMBO over the spray bottle!! I love this so much and I'm inspired..and you know what that means!! Great project and Thank you so much for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteA window with a view... What an amazing idea. You are so creative. I bet a room decorated with your ideas would be wonderfully eclectic!
ReplyDeleteWhen is John going to learn that he is married to a creative genius?
ReplyDeleteOh, I absolutely love it! What a wonderful man you have to collect treasures for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Patty at Home and Lifestyle Design
Suzan, tell John that I think your rainy view, er, window looks fantastic!! ;)
ReplyDeleteSusan
I've never been to Paris and can't call myself a fan of the fair city, but I LOVE this idea! I have some old windows just begging to be brought back to life. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteBut it could be a view of anywhere, right?
DeleteThanks so much for visiting!
Hugs,
Suzan
Perfect view.....Mine has a chickadee sitting on a pine branch. I change it whenever the mood strikes. Brad never knows what he'll see when he sits at the diningroom table.....hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to do this for so long but wasn't quite sure how to. Thanks for giving me step by step directions!
ReplyDelete~Trisha
You're so funny and crafty too! I love Paris anytime! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for popping in to see me.
be a sweetie,
Shelia :0
In answer to your question, it depends. Was John's chuckle one of those evil movie-type chuckles? (: I LOL'd when I saw the first pic of your tutorial because that is exactly how I measure anything. I love the picture, especially with the "rain". I wonder if there is some product that one could apply to create a similar effect, more permanent than a spray bottle, but that could be removed when desired.
ReplyDeleteNo I wouldn't say it was evil exactly lmho............
DeleteIf you find a product that produces rain - let me know, k???
Re the measuring - that's gotten me into trouble before - it just happened to work out this time LMHO
Thanks Betsy!!!!!
XXX
I love the rain that you "created"!
ReplyDeleteThanks Susan lol - John's right though - I'm completely nuts
DeleteXOXO
this is so darn creative. I love it!
ReplyDeleteYour window looks awesome!! I love it...with or without the rain.
ReplyDelete~Cindy
I love your window. Who wouldn't want to look at pictures of Paris, even in the rain. What a super creative idea!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, that is so awesome!!! I would have definitely saved that window but never would have thought of something so creative like you did. It turned out great!
ReplyDeletethis is amazing and I LOVE the idea of raining falling on the window. Great story!
ReplyDeleteWhat you did Suzan is truly amazing. What a great job you have done!!! Let John know that many of us enjoyed seeing the Eiffel Tower on a rainy day in Paris, LOL!!! Now I want one for the new house big time....any offers????
ReplyDeleteCynthia
WOW! That looks soooo beautiful and real from where I'm sitting, lol! John sounds so much like my Ern commenting on all of my projects. Full of life and love, lol.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! J'adore Paris aussi....!!
ReplyDeleteBahaha!! He just doesn't learn does he. I adore your window even on a rainy day :)
ReplyDeletexo
Laura
OMG! You are a genius. I absolutely adore it and will now scour town looking for a window to make into art!
ReplyDeleteLove this! New follower from the blog hop :)
ReplyDeletehttp://amylynn83.blogspot.com/
I love what you did with the window! What a great way to have your vision of Paris, even while still firmly in place at home. It's a wonderful use for a found treasure.
ReplyDeleteI am working with windows too! I might steal this!
ReplyDeleteWOW! I love this. I might steal -- ummm... I mean borrow -- the idea for my daughter's bedroom. Paris is our favorite city in the whole world. It inspired my blog and launched my business. Not to mention, we love the city! Your hubby should know that we are all a bit crazy and you are not alone. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. And I am still LAUGHING! So fun to read your posts. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Carla lol -

ReplyDeleteFabulous project! I love your view.
ReplyDeleteI have a pair of windows I'm attaching to the wall of a windowless hall and having trouble finding an image big enough. I wondered if this would work and now you have shown me it will. Thank you! The rain is brilliant! So there, John. If he commits you, we'll bust you out.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely idea. I've been looking for an old window for a while. I'm still debating about which of my neighbour I should take a picture of to put inside the window though...
ReplyDeleteI like this. I like all things Paris as well. Love that it is a new trend on fabrics and decorative items. Thanks for sharing this found you on blog hop.

Thanks so much Tracy!!!

I love this idea very much, and the interchangeable views means it would never get old.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzan! You did a fantastic job on this window! Such a nice thing to wake up to..
ReplyDeleteYou might know it already, but Urban Outfitters online has a thin cotton bedspread that's printed with a view of the Eiffel Tower. I have it hanging on my bedroom wall and love it for the same reasons..just want to wake up in Paris someday!
Peggy Hunt
Thanks so much Peggy - I had no idea about the bedspread - I'll have to check that out!!!
DeleteHave a great long weekend!
Hugs,
Suzan
Suzan,
ReplyDeleteI did this with the insert from an old french door. I added pin holes on the tower and put a string of tiny white lights behind. Now,at night, the tower twinkles in my bedroom.
Kay at Plum and Nearly.
Oh that must look awesome Kay !!!
DeleteThanks for coming by

It's when he stops talking you should worry. Love the project, it makes me so happy. Jo @ Let's Face the Music
ReplyDeleteLMHO - thanks so much!!!

Aaah, Paris. My girls are in dual French/English school here and for my 40th b-day I am taking my family to Paris. Hopefully by then they will have learned enough French to do all my speaking for me. :) Thinking maybe in the meantime we'll need to take a side trip to Quebec to give them a feel for things.
ReplyDeleteI love this.... And your post was hilarious! I would have done the same exact thing with the water bottle....lol!
ReplyDeleteI'm really jonesing to find some good garbage that I can transform into beauty like this!!!
Get on Craigs List - you may find some there - check the free section too!
DeleteSomeone on Hometalk just reminded me of that - and she's right - it could
be an excellent source!
Have a great wknd!!!
Keep looking lol
XOXO
I think this is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteGreat job. Your husband is way kind... mine would not stop, but I agree there is many a day when I cross the street so as not to pick up "things" I have no house left.
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome Suzan, and the perfect view to wake up to! I love the rain, it adds the perfect touch :)
ReplyDeleteOh my! You are to funny! Stumbled upon your blog from French Country & glad I did. I love this idea! Thanks so much! Brooke
ReplyDeleteThanks SO much - have a great long weekend!
DeleteHugs,
Suzan
How perfect is your window? Wow, what a beautiful way to use it, I love your view! And if he locks you up somewhere, don't forget to take the window with you so you still have a great view ;) hehe
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
This is SO very cool!
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with it - the rain too! Tell John EVERYONE loves the rain! Lol!
ReplyDeleteI have a few old windows sitting in the garage…you've given me an idea!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! What better view could you ask for? I was thinking of approaching a local firm that does window replacement to see if they can save any for me. xxx
ReplyDeleteRofl!!! I SO get it! The last time I tried to stop for something (a pair of old, wooden crutches), John (yup - I have one, two) flat out refused to let me get them! "WHY would you want an old pair of crutches?" Well, of course, I'd seen this adorable bookshelf, made with a pair just like them, & I wanted to see what I could soon off of that idea. Perfectly reasonable, right?
ReplyDelete*sigh* C'est la vie, I suppose.
But, now I absolutely must follow you! How could I not follow a woman after my own heart, with such an awesome sense of humor!
I had a pair of old wooden crutches that I threw out - they gave me the creeps LOL - where were you six months ago - I could have shipped them to you!!!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the insane asylum!!!
XOXO
Absolutely fabulous! John, you need to see how CREATIVE your wife is!!!! I have been eyeing the garbage lately for a window just like yours to do I don't know what with, but now I know! My scene would be of a field of sunflowers in Tuscany, Italy. Gotta find that window!
ReplyDeleteYour window is awesome, Suzan! What a view :D the rain is a really nice touch.
ReplyDeleteYour window turned out great.
ReplyDeleteI think you made a good choice getting John to pick it up from the garbage pile.
Denise
Your window looks wonderful and your hubby stories always crack me up!

Thanks so much Steph - you'll be hooked - just saying lol

Sounds like I'm the only one not getting this--was rain effect part of the final product or only a temporary thing? I accidentally created a permanent effect on a picture I took of birds on snow covered branches in a window. I placed the pictures face down with 6000 adhesive and smoothed it out with a popsicle stick. When it dried it had this wet look in places and it blended with my winter scene perfectly! I enhanced with some tiny clear self-stick bubbles I found (placed them on the outside) and everyone comments on it!
ReplyDeleteLMHO - I squirted water on it for the photos !!!
DeleteSo not permanent at all - but the tiny clear stick bubbles sound like a great idea - thanks for sharing!
XOX
Love your idea! AND, I have some divided wood windows I saved so I'm half-way there! Merci pour l'idée!
ReplyDeleteBienvenue Mon Ami!!!!!
