Lovely 2 bedroom flat in Westmount, ( Montreal, Quebec )
Steps from Downtown center - walk to restaurants - theater - shopping !!!
Filled to brim with Victorian Charm - original plaster details
Exposed brick walls
Current owners thought they'd live there forever - but life changes - needs change -
financial situations change - and new chapters are forever being made.
We spent the whole of last week emptying out the house of excess furniture - made countless trips back and forth to our storage unit to get our home ready for the " FOR SALE " sign which will be placed on our lawn today - exhausting - absolutely exhausting -
The living room has been cleaned completely - John is not allowed to sit on the couch until we've sold
I painted the coffee table and the fireplace which was red brick |
Pillows have been plumped
Extra lighting has been added ( row houses are dark - one of my biggest beefs )
The bookcase area has been organized
A throw was " thrown " on the bench/ottoman ( that's my ode to fall decorating lmho - and that's as far as it's probably going to get this year - selling a house and decorating for the season do not go hand in hand unfortunately )
Mirrors have been cleaned so that they sparkle
Surfaces have been decluttered to showcase the crumbling brick
I painted the secretary ages ago - time to change it up I think !!! |
The original plaster moldings have been given a fresh coat of white paint
Even the Cherubs were lovingly painted ( 4 sets in each corner of the entry way - what a welcome )
The dining room's been cleared and all traces of paint have vanished
The shutters on the kitchen window have been painted ( they were embarassingly filthy I must say )
so were the kitchen cupboards ( peaking through the mirror )
as well as the kitchen hutch
I bought this from the Salvation Army a few years ago for 37.50 - it was horrid - but cleaned up quite nicely!!! White and Duck egg blue |
The hall way trim was all freshened up as well - beadboard painted - lights have been cleaned to a sparkle
The bedroom has miraculously stayed pretty much the same as when I redid it in the winter ( except the bench has been removed - space is at a premium in this house so for selling purposes that extra 10 inches may be crucial lol )
EVERYTHING was painted in this room - including the floor lol |
It's about as ready as it's ever going to be - and...............................
Suzan says - John there's a desk for sale that I think I could do something special with

Suzan says - Here take a look
John says - I SWEAR TO YOU THIS IS THE LAST PIECE UNTIL THE HOUSE IS SOLD, DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?
Suzan says - youdon'thavetoyellatme -
Suzan says - what if the house takes a long time to sell? I'm still going to be redoing furniture you know
John says - Than God Help me - that's all - ...............................GOD HELP ME ...... I can't take much more of this.........
I've decided the next house needs to have an " atelier " ( workshop ) or I'm going to be a single lady who paints furniture!!!

ReplyDeleteLooks great, Suzan ! Were I in the same country, you would already have received an offer - in writing!
ReplyDeleteThe house is gorgeous! I'm certain it will sell quickly. Where are you moving to?
ReplyDeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteEverything looks lovely, I hope you have a quick sell.
Years ago after we built our first home and then put in on the market, I remember having to keep everything spotless for the just-in-case someone wants to see it today. At that time, I had 5 small children. Talk about a job. Luckily it sold in less than 30 days.
Your place is beautiful! You should have no problem selling it. I love the exposed brick, so much character! I am going to be going through the same process soon-decluttering and listing sometime in the spring/summer. I am not looking forward to that, as the garage is full of furniture and I will too will have to stop to sell. What's a girl to do? Good luck with the sale, I bet it goes quick!
ReplyDeleteWow Suzan!! Your house looks fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing, Suzan! I hope it sells quickly. And I hope your next place does have a workshop that you will LOVE working in. Everyone needs their own space.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely. Best wishes. Dianntha
ReplyDeleteSuzan, your house looks lovely and ready for the big sale... hope it goes quickly and you can move on to your atelier..... good luck and have an amazing week.....
ReplyDeleteGood luck, Suzan! I know this is very bittersweet for you. I am praying for you for some peace and serenity and a smooth sale. Now for the fun part-to start identifying a new home. Love to you-I am on the road this week-xo Diana
ReplyDeleteSuzan, I think this is the first I've seen your home and it is so beautiful. I love the oldness, the mouldings, wood trims, bricks etc. and your decorating is exquisite. I'm sure the right person will want to grab that up quickly. All the best!! Oh. That desk is gorgeous. Can't wait to see the remodel of it. Pam

ReplyDeleteIt's interesting how much sympathy 'stress' I'm feeling right now. This is a big step. Your next place HAS to have an area dedicated to your craft. You deserve it.

ReplyDeleteI know how hard it is to leave a place filled with sweet memories. I hope it sells fast before you fall back in love with it. I don't understand where exactly you are going to work during the trying time of home showings. We were lucky our first home sold in four days and we never had second thoughts.

ReplyDeleteWow, Suzan, you have staged your home beautifully! If I didn't know better, I'd say a professional did the work. I don't think it will take that long to sell, your home is so warm and inviting. Great Job!!

ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Suzan! I'd be surprised if it's on the market for long... gorgeous. And that desk? Amazing!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I'll take it! Really Suzan, it is really pretty! I never knew you were from Quebec. I dated someone long distance who was from Quebec when I was very young. I loved it up there! Praying for a quick sale for you, I'm sure it won't be on the market long! XO
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Christy - Montreal's such a beautiful city - filled to the brim with political unease :(
DeleteXOXO
Your home looks gorgeous Suzan, I was going to say where are you going to work in the meantime. I don't think your place will be on the market long, don't worry. I can relate to the exhaustion, the movers are coming Monday. Because everything is going into storage until the life insurance companies stop holding me hostage, I had to wrap and box everything. I have plastic bins in every room of my house, its quite the maze. Hopefully in a week me and Maggie and my furniture will all be in Ontario. want to borrow some bins for you move lol hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful home with great character and design! I hope it sells soon, Suzan! I'm visiting from Inspiration Monday.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Carrie :)
DeleteHugs,
Suzan
You did an awesome job Suzan, it looks wonderful!! Be careful, my DIY projects are the main reason why I am now single. ;) I am starting to get our house ready to sell (he is no where to be found), so I am using your photos for inspiration!! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, what a beautiful house you have! Love all the exposed brick and your decorating style is just beautiful!! :o)
ReplyDeleteTania
what a gorgeous house. Love the way it is decorated and you must have mixed emotions leaving. Godd luck on a quick sale
ReplyDeletehi there... First let me say, that your home is beautiful!!!!! I love it just the way it is. I just sold my home this past June. I had it on the market a long time, almost two years. I also had to pack up a lot of my "decor". I packed at least 90 percent, clothes and all, so when moving day came, it honestly took me less than a day to pack up everything that was out(1700 sf home). I am telling you this, because even though I love the looks of your home, in my opinion, it has way too much of "you" showing...way too many of your things displayed. Too many book cases, too many things hanging on the walls, too many dishes in the china cabinet and too much furniture. The style is great, just take most of it out, your home will look so much bigger. I know there will be haters after me for these comments, but...I can look at your pictures with fresh eyes...and with my own experience. Good Luck with your sale, and I hope it happens right away!!!!! Kathy
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kathy - if I were staging someone's home I'd do the same things you suggest - but I have no space - absolutely none to do any of it - we have a storage unit and believe it or not it's been emptied out somewhat already LOL -
DeleteI have to pray people can see past all of it I guess - no choice in the matter at all!
XOXO
I know we aquire so many things...I moved into a rental, untill I find just the right home to buy, and I have a one car garage and a bedroom completely full of boxes...
DeletePlus we downsized to move here - which in hindsight we never should have done - but I was not redoing furniture at the time so it seemed like an ok " fit "
DeleteIt wasn't. lol
Good luck with finding the perfect home for you !!!

Suzan, Your home is gorgeous and I bet it sells quickly. Love the brick wall!
ReplyDeletexx,
Sherry
Oh I would dream of having this home!
ReplyDeleteIt looks lovely.
ReplyDeletePraying for a fast sale for you.
Suzan I absolutely love your home. And I think your staging is amazing. If I walked inside I would want to stay and admire it all. But I hope your home sells quickly because I know it's unsettling to be in that situation. Everything must feel like it's on hold .And I don't think I've read where you're headed. Local? To a different kind of home? Keep us posted. :)
