I just realized I never showed you this piece in it's entirety - I showed you the bottom when that was done and then forgot about it!
So here's the BEFORE - she needed a makeover badly, right?
How do I know she's a she?
She has gorgeous legs
She has curves in all the right places
and she wears the cutest " drawers "
( she always knows her place, she's got style, she's got grace, whoa whoa whoa she's a lady )
And here's the AFTER - completely finished
I don't know why the distressing doesn't show in the above photo - it looks pristine, doesn't it?
But there was, in fact, some sanding involved
A little around her cute legs
I'm not sure why people don't like these types of knobs - I adore them - the customer may change them - but I feel they fit this type of furniture so beautifully - love the detailing on them -
These were spray painted a very deep charcoal although they look black in the photos
and just for the tiniest bit of drama - I painted the " ceiling " of this piece in graphite -
I did it for 2 reasons - first of all the pop of graphite is so nice against all that crisp white and a nice
surprise when you look up and secondly the ugly hardware of the lighting fades into the deep color - white makes it stand out like a sore thumb :)
You can't see it unless you're right up next to it
And she's ready to go back home...................
All nice and pretty like!
shhh - can you hear her?
she's singing
" nights in white satin .............♫ "
She's a very risque type of hutch as you can tell - but hey - if you got it - you may as well flaunt it !
I used ASCP - Pure White on this one!
Have a great Tuesday everyone :)

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Christina - yes I used Annie Sloan chalk paint - pure white :)
Deletexxx
Am I blind? I was looking at the photos and I did not see you mentioned you used chalk paint in Old White lol :)
ReplyDeletePure White - you're blinder than you think LMHO !!!!!!
DeleteLol!!!!!!
DeleteI always read your blog first in the morning. Love this hutch in white! Do you wax over the ASCP?
ReplyDeleteWell what an honor Julie !!! Thanks so much - and yes I waxed the entire piece ( I hate waxing - let me repeat that - I HATE WAXING lol )
DeleteHave a good one!
xxx
Hey Suzan, I forgot to ask, do you have a room to do this in, or doing it in the living room? (I hate waxing too, can't get the hang of it)
DeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous piece. Love the distressing and those curved legs are fabulous. What a wonderful piece. Your client is going to be thrilled. Beautiful.
Kris
Hey - my reply disappeared ( like my sanity ) - thanks so much Kris :)
DeleteYeah, I can hardly believe these are the same piece. Gorgeous. Beautiful ankle bones. ;-)
ReplyDeletetoo bad the lady ain't mine LMHO !!!
DeleteThanks Judy :)
Gorgeous piece! and I love those handles too....sometimes tarnished or sometimes a darker finish. I think they have great style.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine! I can't tell you how many people dislike them and change them :)
Deletexoxo
okay.... you had me for a moment... had to make sure that we didn't skip ahead a day..... only an hour on the weekend. Have a great Monday... LMHO
ReplyDeleteYou have a good wk too lol !!!
DeleteBeautiful!!! Nice work!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Victoria!
DeletePretty amazing what a nice coat of paint can do!
ReplyDeleteor 2 or 3 coats lol
DeleteAs a brown furniture lover, I can say that this white coat is a big improvement on this hutch. She never looked so good!!! Bravo! Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteWell then Linda - that's a huge compliment - thanks so much !
DeleteI love the knobs Susan and her legs! Pinned it my Before and After board!
ReplyDeleteThanks SO much !!! xox
DeleteThumbs up!
ReplyDeleteThanks Siskel ( or are you Ebert? ) lol
DeleteSee you Wednesday sistah!
xxx
Absolutely beautiful!!! The knobs are georgeous, what's not to love?? I read your blog every morning first thing, can hardly wait to see what you've been up to! Please don't change a thing about your blog. I have stopped reading several because of all the sponsored posts and all the advertising you have to wait to load. I understand their reasons but I much prefer to just enjoy a blog! Thanks for your posts
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweetheart ! Thanks so much !
DeleteXOXO
Gorgeous!! And you know just how to distress something and make it look better!!! I've seen some that remove too much and the piece just looks awful. You should be giving lessons--you could charge for your knowledge and use the $$ on the house and garden.♥♫
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Marilyn - although I have to tell you I've distressed a piece or 2 very very heavily lol - buy my heart goes with light sanding really :)
DeleteShould I open a DE - Stressing school - because I'm stressed out of my mind with these reno's !!!
xox
xoxo
She's a gorgeous lady indeed! Wow. I like that you painted the knobs and pulls. My pine cabinet as brass pulls that are all pitted and scratched and looking really bad and as I was thinking about replacing them I could also paint them. Would the paint scratch off? I use it everyday so it's not like it's just sitting there looking pretty. What colour would you paint them and would you use spray paint? Thanks for your help. You do amazing makeovers!!
ReplyDeletedid you get my email Pamela?

So beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI have handles like that on some of my french furniture. I love them. When customers don't want them, save them for another project!
Thanks so much Susan -
DeleteAnd I do save every single one of them - I find it a little ridiculous what I'm starting to keep now - today a piece of plywood got thrown out ( from renovations ) and it's back in the house now because you never know - I think I may just be getting out of hand LOL
Amazing what a can of paint can do!!! beautiful.
ReplyDeleteor 2 or 3 LOL - thanks Pinky :)
DeleteGREAT JOB!!! Can you tell me if you did any prepping? Or did you just apply the ASCP and that was it. Thanks
ReplyDeleteNope - just washed it and went to town with the paint !!!
DeleteThanks so much :)
Just perfect, Suz!!! :-)
ReplyDeletethanks Chris xox
DeleteLovely! I swear I'll never get over how paint can update a piece so well!!
ReplyDeletexoxo
-andi
I'll never get over it either Andi !!!
DeleteThanks :)
wow, again, Suzan! She is absolutely stunning. The paint really brought out all the details that got lost in her just being stained. I love the handles too. They fit her perfectly! Good call on painting the ceiling Graphite - it really does hide the light fixture!
ReplyDelete:)
Cecilia
I think that's what I love the most about painted furniture Cecilia - the fact that the details show as soon as it's finished !
DeleteThanks!
xxx
That looks amazing she has killer legs!
ReplyDeleteand when exactly do I get to see yours?

Love it Love it Love it!!! I might attempt to paint my kitchen table soon. I have red oak cabinets, a yellowish beige tiled floor and soon to be yellow walls again. Any suggestions and tips??? I am probably going to paint the chairs too!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Love the pure white and just enough distressing. Love!
ReplyDeleteIt is BEAUTIFUL...I really love this one.

ReplyDeleteAnother gorgeous makeover Suzan. *whispering* because I know how popular Old White is...I prefer Pure White. Just the perfect amount of distressing too - love it!
ReplyDeleteMarie @ The Interior Frugalista
Risque is as Risque does. Maybe you should put a red light in her and see what happens. Lady with the red dress....Lord have Mercy....xo Diana
ReplyDeleteWow, fabulous makeover. I love it. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Suzan! I love that you painted the "ceiling" in the graphite. I don't love those kind of handles because they are hard to keep clean. On the other hand, they look perfect on your piece.
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS as always Suzan. You never disappoint.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Beautiful, funny how the curves didn't show up in the natural wood. This is a piece that definitely looks better painted.
ReplyDeleteLove the dark ceiling. Achieves that same function as the dark ceilings in restaurants.
You are a smart cookie.
xoxoGinger
Wow! She is gorgeous. Nice choice with the Graphite to give contrast and depth. This is just lovely. You did a great job. By the way, I saw your link at the Coastal Charm link party. Ann Marie @ Iris Abbey
ReplyDeleteOh yes, she is absolutely stunning, Suzan! I love her curves and details, and I agree with you on the handles, they look perfect.
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
I have this very same china hutch that I picked up cheap at a garage sale. Where yours has glass mine has wire grille. I plan on painting mine like this when it warms up since it's sitting in the hobby garage. I love it painted and your post came at a great time so I can see what it will look like!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I have a hutch that has been in my family for years. My mom thinks I should paint it and normally I wouldn't hesitate, but something is holding me back and I can't decide if I should or not!
ReplyDeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteSo pretty!

ah pure white, my favorite colour. I would paint everything in my house white if I had the energy. Love the transformation on this one, very pretty. And the touch of graphite makes it perfect. great job, hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteWow it looks amazing! I would love to do that with ours which is very similar. My husband will never go for it though. He gets attached to traditional wood furniture for some reason. Maybe I will show him yours!
ReplyDelete-Shelley
I always use Old White - just came from a long drive to the closest ASCP distributor. I think I need to try pure white some time.
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely beautiful and has great legs.
Suzan, that is really beautiful. Love that it has the top. My poor girl is going topless! I love how pristine she looks and I will be doing mine again too. I have the same handles and will paint them the same color as the body.. Probably not the perfect thing to do but I love when the antiquing gets around them and makes them look all grungy. A girl can always have a little bit of rough around the edges, can't she?..Really pretty..Happy Thursday..Judy
ReplyDeleteI LOVE it!! I hope to find something like this one day for my home. Nice work!
ReplyDeleteI love the hutch. Looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteGigi @ Old World Patina
What a transformation, it's just beatiful! I love the color, it's just perfect!
ReplyDeleteGreat redo. I have a piece that is very similar that I was thinking of redoing. Did you pre-sand before you painted it?
ReplyDeleteWow that looks amazing! Great job. I have been thinking of refinishing some furniture around here.
ReplyDeleteSuzan, it is fabulous. I want a big hutch like that but my house is too small. I have a can of Pure White I haven't touch in months. I always end up using Old White...probably because I know nothing white will ever stay white for more than an hour in my house. Also, Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my settee post. : )
ReplyDeleteVictoria
You sure know how to treat a lady, Suzan! She's gotten a beautiful makeover!
ReplyDeleteGreat makeover!:)
ReplyDeleteI love this transformation! It's so much better painted white. :-) Great call.
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
Kim @ Curtain Queen Creates
oh yes, she is definitely a 'she' Susan and what a beautiful lady she is too. You did a superb job of transforming her in to this beauty.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kerryanne

ReplyDeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteYour makeover is to die for! She is definitely a beautiful lady now! I agree with you, I like the original hardware. I just re-did a piece, probably about the same age, and kept the hardware it came with.
