Hutch Makeover - before and after

Good morning everyone

I just realized I never showed you this piece in it's entirety - I showed you the bottom when that was done and then forgot about it!

So here's the BEFORE - she needed a makeover badly, right?

How do I know she's a she?
She has gorgeous legs
She has curves in all the right places
and she wears the cutest " drawers "

( she always knows her place, she's got style, she's got grace, whoa whoa whoa she's a lady )

And here's the AFTER - completely finished

I don't know why the distressing doesn't show in the above photo - it looks pristine, doesn't it?

But there was, in fact, some sanding involved

A little around her cute legs

painted hutch, white, chalk paint

a little around her drawers

I'm not sure why people don't like these types of knobs - I adore them - the customer may change them - but I feel they fit this type of furniture so beautifully - love the detailing on them -
These were spray painted a very deep charcoal although they look black in the photos

and just for the tiniest bit of drama - I painted the " ceiling " of this piece in graphite -
I did it for 2 reasons - first of all the pop of graphite is so nice against all that crisp white and a nice
surprise when you look up and secondly the ugly hardware of the lighting fades into the deep color - white makes it stand out like a sore thumb :)
You can't see it unless you're right up next to it

A little more distressing around her curves

And she's ready to go back home...................

Painted hutch, annie sloan chalk paint, pure white

All nice and pretty like!
shhh - can you hear her?
she's singing

" nights in white satin .............♫ "

She's a very risque type of hutch as you can tell - but hey - if you got it - you may as well flaunt it !

I used ASCP - Pure White on this one!
Have a great Tuesday everyone :)
Much love,

  12. Absolutely beautiful!!! The knobs are georgeous, what's not to love?? I read your blog every morning first thing, can hardly wait to see what you've been up to! Please don't change a thing about your blog. I have stopped reading several because of all the sponsored posts and all the advertising you have to wait to load. I understand their reasons but I much prefer to just enjoy a blog! Thanks for your posts

  13. Gorgeous!! And you know just how to distress something and make it look better!!! I've seen some that remove too much and the piece just looks awful. You should be giving lessons--you could charge for your knowledge and use the $$ on the house and garden.♥♫

  14. She's a gorgeous lady indeed! Wow. I like that you painted the knobs and pulls. My pine cabinet as brass pulls that are all pitted and scratched and looking really bad and as I was thinking about replacing them I could also paint them. Would the paint scratch off? I use it everyday so it's not like it's just sitting there looking pretty. What colour would you paint them and would you use spray paint? Thanks for your help. You do amazing makeovers!!

  15. So beautiful!

I have handles like that on some of my french furniture. I love them. When customers don't want them, save them for another project!

    1. Thanks so much Susan -
And I do save every single one of them - I find it a little ridiculous what I'm starting to keep now - today a piece of plywood got thrown out ( from renovations ) and it's back in the house now because you never know - I think I may just be getting out of hand LOL

  36. Beautiful, funny how the curves didn't show up in the natural wood. This is a piece that definitely looks better painted.
Love the dark ceiling. Achieves that same function as the dark ceilings in restaurants.

  39. I have this very same china hutch that I picked up cheap at a garage sale. Where yours has glass mine has wire grille. I plan on painting mine like this when it warms up since it's sitting in the hobby garage. I love it painted and your post came at a great time so I can see what it will look like!

  40. I love it! I have a hutch that has been in my family for years. My mom thinks I should paint it and normally I wouldn't hesitate, but something is holding me back and I can't decide if I should or not!

  41. ah pure white, my favorite colour. I would paint everything in my house white if I had the energy. Love the transformation on this one, very pretty. And the touch of graphite makes it perfect. great job, hugs Tobey

  43. I always use Old White - just came from a long drive to the closest ASCP distributor. I think I need to try pure white some time.

She is absolutely beautiful and has great legs.

  44. Suzan, that is really beautiful. Love that it has the top. My poor girl is going topless! I love how pristine she looks and I will be doing mine again too. I have the same handles and will paint them the same color as the body.. Probably not the perfect thing to do but I love when the antiquing gets around them and makes them look all grungy. A girl can always have a little bit of rough around the edges, can't she?..Really pretty..Happy Thursday..Judy

  50. Suzan, it is fabulous. I want a big hutch like that but my house is too small. I have a can of Pure White I haven't touch in months. I always end up using Old White...probably because I know nothing white will ever stay white for more than an hour in my house. Also, Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my settee post. : )
