I was one of the first people I know to run out and buy stainless steel - they're the only appliances I've bought for many many years - AND for many many years I struggled to keep them clean !
Fingerprints are stainless steel's worst enemy and so I've tried every product out there - paid a small fortune over the years for things that didn't really work to my satisfaction - until I opened the medicine cabinet one day and pulled out my baby oil.
That's right - a simple bottle of baby oil ( I now get a bottle from the Dollar Store for this purpose alone ( I stick with Johnson's for my body lol ).
It's effortless - and instant - the only thing is you have to make sure you buff dry or it'll all have been for nothing.
After installing the range hood it looked like this
and 5 minutes later it looked like this
The stove - ( as you know we are looking for a new stove - this one's seen better days - but at least it looks clean now )
The fridge looks like a mirror ! ( I may start using it to put my make up on )
You HAVE to try it - it's a miracle cleaner AND the Green thing to do ( and the added bonus is all my appliances now feel as soft as a baby's bum )
Much love,
I'll be partying here !

ReplyDeleteI NEVER would have thought about baby oil! I am going to try it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the baby oil tip. I added a tip for cleaning furniture upholstery with Barbasol on my Wetcreek Blogspot today. Linda@Wetcreek Blog
ReplyDeleteoh wow, thats amazing!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea!! Will have to try it!

ReplyDeleteI wish I would've known this when we had stainless steel. Having 3 little ones running around made it very hard to keep my appliances fingerprint free. So I opted for all white.
Thanks for sharing this great tip!
Have a great weekend Suzan,
Suzanne
I have an arsenal of SS cleaners, had to try them all, and I've only found one that I like, but it's not baby oil so I'll give that a whirl.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU!
ReplyDeleteI just put baby oil on my shopping list.
What? Never heard of this! I'll give it a try. I'm thinking of ditching all the stainless appliances when we move. It's so aggravating- especially with three dogs and their slobber and nose prints on the fridge. I bet Bruce will lick the fridge if I put baby oil on it. He tries to lick off all the lotion on my legs/feet. Crazy dog. :)
ReplyDeleteWho knew? I'm going to try this on our downstairs stove. The smudges are always popping up and irking me. Upstairs (main floor, I should say), we have black, and that's got it's moments, but it's not as challenging as the st.steel. Great share!
ReplyDeleteI will have to try it. Thank you for sharing your magic!
ReplyDeleteNow this is a good one!!! I love it. Yet another little bit of dollar store magic...well, and you of course.
ReplyDeleteWow Suzan those appliances looks stunning. I have always used Pledge on my stainless and it works ok but the baby oil really makes these sparkle. I am going to try this. Thanks for the tip. Have a great week end.

Susan,
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this thrifty tip...so many of us can use it.
Blessings,
Linda
Suzan, I HAD to have stainless steel. It is all the rage and friends that I know that clean houses said No, No, No. But I didn't listen and then the fingerprints came!!! I bought all kinds of SS cleaners and none worked very well. I am now using Pledge cleaner for all types of things, and it works better than the others, but not as pretty as yours looks. I am going to try baby oil now. The proof will be if I can see my reflection. Maybe that's not such a good idea!..Happy Weekend..Judy Thanks for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI actually use baby oil too, it's brilliant. I think my nana used it on her toaster back in the day and it was always shiny.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful after that polish, I too discovered baby oil for cleaning stainless steel, it works a treat and is so much kinder than the chemical version in the supermarkets.
ReplyDeleteLee :)
Well now there's some news I can use!!! Thanks for tip Suzan.
ReplyDeleteAwesome. I will give this a try!
ReplyDeleteThis is so great! I'm giving it a try! Thanks for sharing at the It's Party Time link up!
ReplyDeleteBaby oil who knew, but I see something more interesting in the reflection of the fridge. I see a floor that has not been revealed yet, and if it has then I missed it. Would love to see a pic of it and the while kitchen. pretty please. hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteGreat tip Suzan - off to the dollar store I go for my bottle! I see some black & white checks reflected in that shiny stainless...did I miss a post or are you keeping something from us...huh..huh...huh?
ReplyDeleteMarie@The Interior Frugalista
Yep- I do this and I used to use WD40 before I discovered baby oil. The trick is to make sure you wipe/polish it all off!!!!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to try this...I had heard olive oil would work but I didn't like it...I love the shine on yours...If I had to do it over, I would go with white, it never goes out of style...but alas....I have stainless....thanks
ReplyDeleteI've read olive oil too! That's what I use to take the residual wax off my face.
ReplyDeleteWait. Did I just admit I wax my facial hair? No I definitely did not.
I'm naturally hair-free.
xoxo

I'm going to try this -- great tip; thanks, Suzan!
ReplyDeleteWho knew? Thanks for sharing! (Seen on Wow Me Wednesday.)
ReplyDeleteAwesome! We just got a new SS hood vent over the stove, so I'll start by using baby oil and hopefully it will stay looking new!
ReplyDeleteI've never had stainless steel appliances (other than our toaster), but I've heard they are a pain to keep clean. What a neat & cheap idea for getting the prints off! I'll have to try it on my toaster since it suffers the same way. Thanks for the tip!
