Good morning everyone !
This last little guest room feels like it's taking longer then the entire kitchen to do !
But at least the beginnings of a bed nook is well on it's way.
Remember I showed you the duvet cover I was going to use in this room ?
What I didn't tell you was that it would be used as a " curtain " to create the " nook "
Since I didn't want to destroy the duvet in any way, I simply took the open end, folding it once and placed hook rings to hang from the rod.
It's important to use the open end of the duvet for the top for 2 reasons -
1) It allows you to have a little substance on the top
2) It allows for perfect " puddling " at the bottom
We hung a rod across the room using simple hardware you'd use to hang a pole in a closet
( I spray painted it of course lol )
I think it cost 2.00 or so - you can get metal ones but this one works fine since it's only holding a curtain
and the best part is that the duvet was in no way altered or damaged to create this !!!
Ok - we have to saw a box spring to get it up the stairs...................so I would imagine there's going to be conversations and a half going on here this weekend.
Yes - you actually heard me right.
Why stairs were ever built this narrow I have no idea - didn't they have box springs 100 years ago?
( it's not so much that they're narrow - it's that turn half way that stops us from getting it up there )
Have a Happy Hallowween and a wonderful weekend everyone -
Much love,
Me

ReplyDeleteGreat idea Suzan and it looks great! We've had some "discussions" while moving box springs up stairs too. They are the worst. Good luck and have a great weekend. -Kristi
ReplyDeleteThe duvet works great as a curtain. I love repurposing things! This little guest room is going to be so pretty....but then again, everything you touch is! Your home is so serene. Have a blessed weekend!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Vicky
You already know I feel your pain with the stairs!! Love the duvet curtains!
ReplyDeleteOMG Lynn - it's driving me insane - now I'm trying to figure out how to change the staircase lol
DeleteWhich reminds me that I have something for BJ - please forgive the length of time here - it'll come ( maybe for Christmas LOL )
XOXO
How will a sawed in half box spring work? How do you get it back together - duct (or duck) tape -- or I'm missing something (probably, LOL!) Love the duvet used as a curtain, it is perfect for the space.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the duvet curtain! Yikes, I think I'm glad it's you and not me having that conversation. Do share when it's all said and done!
ReplyDeleteI actually painted a dresser for a friend to use as a media console. It turned out great but I sure would of liked you to be here for moral support and help. It'll be up on the blog later today if you have a chance to pop over. :o)
hugs,
Cecilia
Ha! I thought you meant the actual "duvet"...have not yet had my coffee? But of course you meant the cover. I love that idea Suzan. Makes it nice and cozy too.
ReplyDeleteoooo, that looks lovely!!!! My parents home had the same stair way, unreal!
ReplyDeleteIt looks darling! As I have said many times- Hush, John!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the box spring and we will wait for the funny story! xoxo
Love the duvet for curtains. Looks great. Hope the box spring gets up there.

I don't suppose you have a door to the outside upstairs? We had to haul our kingsize up to the balcony and through the door. Sawing the boxsprings in half reminds me of the time my niece went on a road trip with my son and I to California. When we got back to my house she called her husband to tell her she was on the way home and he told her that the couch wouldn't fit in the living room of the home they were moving into so they now had a sectional. lol
ReplyDeleteOhhh, love this idea! And I really like those rings you used...are they available at a store now?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jean - yes - you can get them at Target !!!
DeleteXOXO
Ha0ppy Halloween.
ReplyDeleteOh my, taking a box spring up the stairs.....I feel for both you and John's pain and discuss already. Oh, dear, I wonder if we need to bring out the ear plugs :}
I love your duvet curtain. You have the greatest style when it comes to decorating a home. The guest room looks like it's coming along nicely and going to be very lovely once finished.
Great job by the both of you.
Love the duvet cover-and turning it into a curtain is GENIUS!!! I feel your pain when it comes to cutting a box spring in half to get it upstairs! Been there-done that! I'm not sure if it was because we cut ours in half, or if it was just a bad mattress, but that bed has never been comfortable!! Good luck!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much -
DeleteThis is the second one we've had to do that to - ( both guest rooms ) I hope the comfort level is ok because I'm about to be banished from the master bedroom with all this crap LOL
xoxo
Oh my. I'll be interested to know how you get the box spring up those stairs!! Yikes! I love the idea of the duvet cover for a curtain. It would be nice and heavy and room darkening too. Have a 'fun' weekend.
ReplyDeleteLove the curtain - you are so clever. Really looks good.
ReplyDeleteMary
I'm so sorry to hear about the boxsprings .... just in time for Halloween... Jason and the chainsaw come to mind! Hope it all goes well. LOVE your new curtain. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove the duvet cover as the curtain!! I feel your pain about getting the box spring upstairs. We live in a tri-level and the hallway is really short and we liked to never get the box springs into the master bedroom!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
I love your duvet cover curtains and what a nice looking pattern. I so can relate to narrow stairs...was furniture a lot smaller back then? We once brought a queen box springs and we couldn't get it upstairs so we brought it back and brought two twins...problem solved. I"d like some alone sleep time...I'd find it a treat!
ReplyDeleteLol! We had a problem getting a box spring up the stairs too, we had to put it through a second floor window! I love the duvet as a curtain, genius:)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a genius! I love that duvet and I'm glad you found an alternate use for it!
ReplyDeleteLove how you made this curtain and how you're using it around the bed...
ReplyDeleteLove this.....so so much..I love the idea of a privacy curtain and this pattern is perfect. Your room is going to be so adorable...you should go into the decorating business with all your great ideas...:)
ReplyDeleteHey....where's the puddle??? I wanted to see the puddle...
ReplyDelete-andi
Gorgeous curtains!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine !
DeleteThey work perfectly - and new curtains are not in the budget !
XOXO
The duvet curtains are perfect!! Love the pattern and the color. I had to disassemble my box spring to get our queen size bed up our stairs once upon a time....although hubby never knew about it.
ReplyDeleteWell I've already seen the nook post so I know that this turns out looking amazing. Great idea to use the duvet as fabric though. Thanks for linking up at the Make it Minday party!
ReplyDeleteLUV your duvet curtain! Re having to cut your box spring in half. If it is any consolation, I am sure you are not the first, nor will you be the last. -Brenda-
ReplyDeleteP.S: I recall the top designer, Sarah Richardson when doing a client's bedroom did exactly what you did. ☺
Well there you go, I'm certainly in good company then LOL
DeleteThanks so much
XOXOXO
I have always used sheets for curtains but have never thought to use a duvet cover. What a great idea. Thanks Suzan for sharing it at Share It One More Time. Cathy
ReplyDeleteVery clever, Suzan, to use a duvet cover! Can wait to see the full reveal of your nook!
ReplyDeleteSuzan my 4 year old would sell all her brothers for this, it's a princess bed :) I have loads of covers I'm not using I should get them out and see if I can use them as curtains somewhere. So pretty.
