There aren't very many of them left at this point LOL - BUT it paid off big time buying just a little too many of them !
Let's see now -
1) A plank wall
2) A faux fireplace
3) Artwork
4) Built in bookcases
5) A CHRISTMAS TREE !!!!!!!!!!
This is a tall one - I made it for the mantel and it almost reaches the ceiling ( we have very high ceilings here )
I spray painted screws in red - to mimic berries - and to allow something for the ornaments to hang from at the same time
The long ones hold the planks onto the back post - the smaller ones are so that I could hang as many ornaments as possible
The hardest part of this project was screwing in 100 screws - the second hardest was threading the string through the minuscule holes because I couldn't find my glasses ( I thought that was spelled miniscule - thank God for spell check )
The ornaments were purchased at Michael's a couple of years ago when I made my first pallet trees !
But I ended up stencilling on them instead
When I think of the chaos of last Christmas I don't know how we lived through it - seriously -
With a kitchen down to the studs and the filth and muck and mire............and pipes breaking on Christmas Eve so that we couldn't even bathe on our way out to my daughter's
O.M.G. - it was a living nightmare - and not one I think I'll ever be brave enough to face again
( but then again - who knows - I'm not all " there " )
John won the war of the " Sled on the Mantel "
It's now in the den - I was going to put it outside ( but I was afraid someone would steal it - is that paranoid or what? ) You can see the post on my Black and White and Red all over Christmas HERE
Does anyone think I should stain it darker? I'm so close to doing it
Soda says " Enough ! "
She came out of the den and asked to be picked up while I was taking photos - she loves to be in the room when the fire is going.................it feels good on her old bones ( and mine actually )
Have a wonderful day everyone -
Much love,
( & plankfully yours )

Suzan, this is so beautiful! No, don't stain it any darker, it's perfect. Your home is beautiful, and you have done everything to make it that way! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteRita
Thanks SO much Rita - now I'm thinking of painting it LOL
DeleteIt feels so strange to hear the house looks beautiful - there's still entire rooms that are closed off and untouched - and so many finishing touches on the rooms that are
" done " ..................but thanks for the encouragement xoxoxoxo
Great tree... .it does look like a lot of work, but well worth it for the major impact it has!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE IT! I pinned it three different times for different categories! This is the kind of thing I always think about doing but never quite get around to doing in time. Love the Santa and reindeer on the chimney, too. Where did you put the 'Tis the Season sign? I think you should move in here for a few months and transform my house. :-)
ReplyDeleteNow that looks COOL on your mantle! I like it how it is but I'm sure if you stain it darker that will look cool too!
ReplyDeleteTania
I am swooning Suzan. Love the tree you made for the fireplace mantel. Gorgeous. You rocked it out on this one. The room looks so pretty and cozy. Little soda is the best decoration in the room. Tooo sweet.
ReplyDeleteKris
It looks awesome and...how clever to paint the screws red for hanging ornaments!
ReplyDeleteOMG Susan, that is one Awesome looking tree. I Luv it.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion, with the white wall, I think I would go darker with the tree but then that is just my opinion. It would blend in more with your dark coffee table.
Me, I wouldn't be able to leave it alone as I would have my hubby Drill some tiny holes and insert a couple sets of battery operated lights.
Glad that you didn't move your sled outside as someone probably would had stolen it for sure. They are really a hot item down here in Texas believe it or not; not for sledding but for decoration.
Great job on your wooden tree.
I think it looks like driftwood right now and so I like it as is. Though I would have painted the nails white. But thats just because I like nordic coastal decor! Its the perfect size for your mantel. Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteIMHO the tree is perfect. Leave it alone. ;) I think it's also the best choice for the mantle. And I love the santa/reindeer decal going up the side. Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteListen to Soda! It looks perfect the way it is. So beautiful! I say just gaze at these pictures when you feel overwhelmed by all that's left to do. They look so peaceful and cozy!

Cecilia
Suzan, give Soda a gentle hug for me. :)
ReplyDeleteYour tree looks wonderful. I love the height and dimension it adds to the mantel.
I'm glad the sled is still indoors though. :)
C;mon John, you know you love the sled. ::: wink :::

Love your plank Christmas tree! Soda, such a sweetie : ). Patty
ReplyDeleteI love this plank tree! Stained, painted, or natural....I want to do this next year. I don't think you ever sit still! It is inspiring, and your sense of humor is contageous...you make me laugh on days when I really need it! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteTrust me Holly - I pass out - often LOL -

Merry Christmas to you too

I LOVE your plank Christmas tree!! I think it looks amazing as does the whole room. It looks very Scandanavian. Beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteSuzan you're unbelievable. Does your brain ever stop. This the coolest homemade tree I have ever seen. You're kinda making me feel like a slacker. I love that you painted the screws the neatest. I showed John and he said very cool
ReplyDeleteCindy
LOVE!!! You are so talented!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know about the talented part Kathy LOL - I keep my projects pretty simple - but thanks SO much !!!
Deletexoxox
That plank tree is fantastic! I love it on the mantel. I think it looks good now but stain would look good too. I love the welcome sled. I ordered that same welcome sign from AMazon after seeing it on your blog over the summer. I am saving it to attach to my screen door when we build our front porch. I love it! Have a fabulous week.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Vicky
You have worked so hard and everything is coming together. It look so lovely you have done a wonderful job, thanks for sharing with us and have a very Merry Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Marlene !
DeleteThanks so much for visiting :)
xoxoxo
What a cute, cute, cute idea, Suzan. Is that screwed to a backer board cut to shape or just a stud in the center? LOVE it! I might stain it a tad darker so it would "pop" more-but I like it as is, too. GREAT job! Did I miss a sled post somewhere? Geez....now I gotta go see if I can find that! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThe plank tree is lovely and I love it. You are such a talented lady with the things you do.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Soda is doing really good and she loves her momma.
Your home is stunning - love all the decorations.
\Mary
OMG...your rooms turned out so beautiful. Truly, truly stunning. Love the stacked coffee table and the colors!
ReplyDeleteI am sooo in luv....
ReplyDeleteI really am anxious to learn how to build a mantel...:)
ReplyDeleteI love it! Don't stain it dark, I love it just the way it is! So cute!
ReplyDeleteThanks Rhonda - I'm going to leave it just the way it is
Delete( for this year anyway LOL )
xoxoxo
Love your plank tree Suzan! So ingenious! I think it's fabulous just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteI Love it! Don't touch it!
ReplyDeleteOk I won't - too tired to anyway Betty LOL
DeleteThanks so much
xoxoxo
Just awesome...Love, Love, Love It! I haven't been around for a while but I really love your living room. I do remember what trials you went thru last year. What a difference a year makes. I guess home reno is like childbirth...if the memory of the pain didn't fade there would never be another. Have a blessed Christmas. xoGinger
ReplyDeletePlankfully??? LOL! I love your tree Suzan. Of course you know I love it when you make stuff! I can't decide if you should stain it darker or not. Maybe a drift wood type finish?? I'm glad you are more settled this Christmas than last and again I say....look how far you've come! You are amazing!
ReplyDeleteBefore I forget, I wanted to share what you probably already have seen:

keep warm and happiest holidays.

I am so stealing this idea for next year Suzan!!! Pinning
ReplyDeleteNot so sure I'd do anything else with the tree...I'm kind of liking the lighter color against the white of the fireplace and it seems to pick up the tone of the small shelving(?) unit at the base of the fireplace. But...knowing your previous posts I am so sure (actually more than positive!) we'll all be seeing yet another version of this tree, lol! I noticed the coffee table...loving it!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much ( I'm amazed you saw the little shelving !!! )
DeleteAnd I'm finished in there for this year LOL - it's getting pretty crowded in that tiny room !!!
xoxox
The plank tree is perfect against the chimney stack of your fireplace (I think it would "pop" (there's that blogger catch phrase again) stained darker. The room looks so cozy and inviting, as Soda is attesting to. I don't think you're being paranoid about putting the sled outdoors - I wouldn't either.
ReplyDeleteThanks SO much Marie !
DeleteI hung the sled outside for 5 minutes LOL and then pictured someone simply walking off with it...............and quickly put it back in the house !
XOXOX
Love it, gonna share it in a minute on FB.
ReplyDeleteI love this Suzan. I pinned it!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it just like it is, how gorgeous. Thanks tons for linking to Inspire Me.
ReplyDeleteSuzan, I love how tall it is! I don't think I would stain it darker. I like the subtle color! Thanks for sharing with SYC. Have a very Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
This is seriously amazing! I love how you spray painted the screws to hang the ornaments on! Pinned it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your tree!! It looks perfect on you mantel!! Oh kitchen remodels...something I pray I only have to do once :)
ReplyDeleteYou sure made a hit with this tree. My hubs made one similar but yours is much taller and love the shape of yours also. Since two he made for craft show last Saturday didn't sell we put them in front yard. Think he needs to drill holes so we could put lights in them, maybe then they'd sell. Pinned this so he could see it for next year. He painted the limbs dark green and trunk brown on his trees.
ReplyDeleteSpray painting the screws red was genius. Hate to say it but somebody might just try to swipe that awesome sled with the welcome on it. Smart to keep it inside. People now do the darndest things. Hope you and John have fantastic Christmas
Beautiful, fun and so festive! Thank you so much for sharing this fun project. PINNED!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzan,
ReplyDeleteThis is such a wonderful idea. I love how your pallet tree follow the shape of your fireplace - so clever! I like it as is and wouldn't go darker. BTW, your 'little girl' is so sweet. Our fur babies love sitting by the fire too.
Have a Lovely Day,
Suzanne
