A dresser for my bathroom Vanity !

Good morning everyone !!!

Hope the sun is shining in your neck of the woods...............it's not as warm here as I'd like it to be :(

John says - Funny that the silver dresser never sold?
Suzan says - Well sometimes it happens
John says - I thought that one would fly out the door
Suzan says - So did I
( I never listed it..................couldn't do it )
Suzan says - Well since no one wants it I think I'll use it for the bathroom vanity downstairs
John gets a horrified look on his face - picture this with his British accent please
" A BATHROOM VANITY??????????????????"
" IT'S A DRESSER !!!!!!!! "
" YOU'RE COMPLETELY OFF THE WALL "
" IT'LL LOOK RIDICULOUS "

He's serious too..............dead serious...............thinks it's absolutely ridiculous.
Dressers are to put clothes in -
They can't be used as Islands or Buffets or VANITIES - they're meant for clothes.

John says - Why don't you ask your readers what they think of the idea - because you don't listen to me
Suzan says -Half the bloggers out there have dressers for vanities !!!
Suzan says - Sandy ( a friend of ours ) has one and you told them you loved it !!!
John says - Well theirs looks like a vanity

I can't win - I keep trying and I. JUST. CAN'T. WIN.

Anyways.........................

If everything goes according to plan ( but you know what they say about that right?  " all well laid plans
always often go awry " ) we should be renovating the downstairs bathroom in the fall.

As economically as I can.

And part of that plan will be using this dresser

Using a dresser as a bathroom vanity

 as a vanity.............

It already has a fitted glass top - so would just have to have it cut out for the drain

I'm thinking of going entirely white - floors - wall tiles - and perhaps have a chandelier instead of regular bathroom lighting - put some glam in there :) and a couple of wall sconces  to match
Love these ones from Thomasville -

And I could always add a little drama with shades

I'd love to up the ante and include a towel warmer while I'm at it -

source
And that's the way my brain works - we have 7 rooms still to finish - and I'm dreaming of bathrooms.

(If anyone is looking for instructions on how to turn a dresser into a vanity - this is a great site
 for it ! http://houseandhome.com/design/custom-vanity )
OR http://bathsolutions.ca/how-turn-cabinet-into-bathroom-vanity/

A lot of you will remember this dresser ( I did it over a year ago ) but for those of you that don't here's what it looked like when I picked it up............

and if you'd like to see the first 2 transformations you can see them HERE lol - because this one was
Once - Twice - Three times a lady.................finally painted with Modern Masters Pewter - just brushed on with 3 coats of water based polyurethane for protection

Have a wonderful day all -
I'm scurrying to finish a custom job - will try to post photos tomorrow :)

Love ya

Dresser Makeover

'Morning all !!!

dresser, painted, Annie Sloan, Pure White, Graphite

If you'll remember this was the dresser I put a bid on last Friday -

Annie Sloan - Pure White, Graphite, Dresser Makeover

With this wonderful slab of granite on top

Which turned out to be not so wonderful pretty damaged laminate :(

John went and picked it up on Friday - you know by now that even when he says NO he always picks the pieces up anyway, right?

As soon as he got it home I set to work painting black ( just used craft paint for it ) into all the crevices of those gorgeous details

John says - Well you've ruined it now - all the details are hidden
Suzan says - Ya think?
John says - I don't understand you.  At all.  You bought the piece for the details and
Suzan interrupts - Isn't there a hockey game or something on?

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Dresser Makeover

Now there's a reason I do this - I know that Dark wax looks great in all those crevices - it worked perfectly with this dresser for instance ( you can see that makeover HERE )

Using Annie Sloan Dark Wax

But sometimes when I'm painting something Pure White - I prefer black in the crevices instead of the brown from dark wax - and honestly?
It's much easier to just slap black paint all over it lol
This is the look I was going for - although this is only one coat of white - you can still get the " picture "

Next I did all the perimeter's of the drawers

John walks by to take Soda out for a walk -
John says - Not that you'll take my advise - but if your painting that dresser white - the black edging will be too stark
Suzan says  Well - you got something right there
John says - Well I DON'T believe it - you finally agree with me -
Suzan says - No - you're right that I'm not going to take your advise..............

Sheesh - leave me alone already.....................( I guess there's no hockey game on tonight )

Here it is after the 2nd coat

How to furniture details pop

I painted the laminate top surface with ASCP Graphite - keep in mind this paint will cover any surface so yes even a counter top material is fine.

See those boxes behind the dresser?
I tried to hide them from view for the photos and then forgot they were there.
See that horrible attempt at staging the dresser?
All my tchotchke's have been long packed away - this is what happens when you paint furniture 12 days
before moving.

I haven't waxed this piece yet because - well - I didn't feel like it LOL - and I know I should have before I showed it to you because the wax makes all the difference - but.....................I'm just too tired!

Dresser Makeover - Annie Sloan Pure White

I'm thinking a slab of white marble could turn this into a pretty cool kitchen island actually - and if that's the case then these drawers pulls would work much better for the lower drawers

Overstock

But for now - for all intents and purposes - let's just call it a dresser
( and while we're at it - let's just call it done )

Approaching Lavender....................

GORDON LIGHTFOOT LYRICS
THIS IS SHEER POETRY -
BUT HEARING HIM SING IT IS LIKE
LAYING IN A FIELD OF LAVENDERS, TRULY
enjoy Diana :)

If you'd like to spend an afternoon approaching Lavender
You'll feel fine but one thing's sure, you'll never feel the same

ascp, custom color, old violet, white, dresser, makeover, contrast, colors, annie sloan

If you'd like to try your hand at understanding Lavender
Then you must be very sure that life is not a game

lavender, annie sloan, custom color, old violet, white, paris grey, dresser, makeover

You might even learn a thing or two approaching Lavender
You'll soon be on a one night tour forgetting your own name

You won't need a reason just to be alone with Lavender
For the light so warm & pure will draw you like a flame

ascp, annie sloan, custom color, chalk paint, dresser, makeover

The colors that surround you there will be a shade of Lavender
Shadows dancing everywhere like flowers in the rain

You will find your tongue's on fire while laying next to Lavender
With words you never spoke before and will not speak again

stencil, french, furniture, dresser, makeover, annie sloan, chalk paint, words

Oh sweet Lavender, I understand you perfectly
There is no way that I can see you living by yourself

chalk paint, dresser, makeover, annie sloan,

Oh sweet Lavender, I must be with you constantly
Your presence means so much to me, much more than life itself

Oh sweet Lavender, as fragrant as the name you bear
Please cast away the clothes you wear
And give your love to me
Oh sweet Lavender , your smile is like the golden sun
I'd love to see you laugh & run
As naked as the sea

chalk paint, annie sloan, spray painted handles,

If you'd like to spend an afternoon approaching Lavender
Don't try and get the best of her, she will not share the blame
If you'd like to try your hand at understanding Lavender
Then you must be very sure that life is not a game.

PRAYING someone will actually want to approach Lavender and take her off my hands!!!!!!!

I think Gordon Lightfoot should buy it, personally.

They're coming to take me away!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Good Morning everyone :)

Meet Abigail ( when you're looking at her - you're looking at country )

shabby, antique, makeover, chalk paint, annie sloan, white, aqua, before, after

I mixed Duck Egg Blue and Old White to create this custom color - ( Annie Sloan Chalk Paint )
Painted it old white first - then applied the custom color - so that when I sanded there would be layers
Once it was dry I dry brushed ( very dry brushed ) a coat of old white here and there )
I spray painted the handles ( original ) in White from Rustoleum ..................and I did an outline of old white
in the engraved design on the middle drawer

John says - I don't understand why you paint something and then take the sander to it
John says - It makes no sense at all
Suzan says - Maybe it's not for you to understand - maybe it has to remain one of those great mysteries in life
John says - But could you just tell me why you do it ?
Suzan says - Nah, if you don't get it looking at it - it can't be explained to you
John says - Well I think you went a little crazy there - there's actually wood showing through in some spots.
Suzan says - John leave me alone already - go contemplate your belly button or something
John says - FINE - I was trying to help you out here-  I thought maybe you didn't realize

Wait till I order myself some milk paint - he's going to have to do some deep soul searching to find the answers to that, let me tell you
Paint that chips and peels?
Does anyone else work with a chief inspector breathing down their backs????

I bought this shabby chic mirror on sale ages ago ( and now I wish I had bought 10 of them - the price was amazing ) it's such a perfect fit for Abigail, don't you think ?
I dry brushed some of the custom color to tie it in................

Suzan says - What do you think of Abigail now?
John says- WHO?
Suzan says - Abigail, the dresser
John says - You gave it a name?
John shakes his head
John says - Where did you find the name?
Suzan says - She told me ................
John says - What kind of flowers do you like?
Suzan says - You don't know by now?  Why?
John says - So I can fill the room you're going to be in, in the asylum, with them.....................

John walks casually by and picks up one of the books I'm staging with
John says - Oh Moby Dick - think I'll read that again
Suzan screams - LEAVE IT ALONE - I'M NOT FINISHED WITH IT
John chuckles - Why, Is Abigail going to read it?

Lindsay and Tony gave each of their Mom's a jewellery box as a " thank you " at the rehearsal dinner
Mine says Suzy - Q
Isn't it pretty?

With a bracelet inside - that reads Mom on one side - and their wedding date on the inside
and an explanation that wherever they go in life - we'll have their hearts -
I'm choked up again - I've been choked up for a week now - when do you stop choking after your kids get married????

Oh and John????
A room filled with these will do very nicely, thank you very much
BUT I don't want you to blame it on Abigail - if I end up in the nut house it won't be because of HER

You can take the book now

I'm all finished for the day

Oops - forgot the before - it was in rough shape - although it looks pretty decent in the photo!

Have a great Thursday everyone....................
Much love - gotta run - someone's at the door -
Hope it's not who I think it is........................

and a very happy 4th of July to my American friends

A Red Headed Woman...............

Well brunettes are fine, man
Blondes are fun ( I can vouch for that btw )
But when it comes to getting the dirty job done
I'll take a Red Headed Woman................

A little Bruce Springsteen to start your day off

And a Red Headed Woman to go with it..................

ASCP Emperor's Silk - dresser makeover

For those of you that haven't jumped on the Chalk Paint craze yet - and find it costly - 1 tin
covered the above dresser and the below dresser

and there's enough left to paint - oh I don't know - a mirror - or a small stool...............so the coverage is amazing

add that to the fact that you don't have to use a primer ( which can be costly in and of itself )
and you really do have an affordable paint here...................

Paints used
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - Emperor's Silk
Rustoleum Spray - Black for handles

This one lasted a day - and it was signed - sealed - and to be delivered this afternoon

Have a great Thursday all!
Hugs,
