but this dresser is hard to even budge, let alone move..................even with the drawers out -
This is so solidly built it's unbelievable...................and see that ugly ugly mirror? It's even uglier
in person - and cannot be sold with the dresser because of the big crack - so I will eventually
have that cut down to fit another project I am working on. Even the mirror is thicker than any
mirror I've ever seen -
For some reason when I removed it from the back my legs went so weak I thought they
were going to give out on me - the same feeling I have when I am standing at a very great height,
it felt like vertigo - strange...................it was so heavy I was afraid of it falling and severing a leg
or 2..........................
But I just love the details on this one - and I think it has great potential................
Here's what I did with the mirror
First of all when I turned it around to remove the mirror there was this WOOD backing on it
PERFECT for turning into a chalk board - no buying a pc of plywood and trying to cut it to size
UGLY |
whoever designed this mirror and thought those holes were cute must have been on drugs.................
they look like a mirror rash.....................so had to fill them up before doing anything else
and then gave it 2 coats of ASCP old white.
And it still never amazes me after all this time what paint can do.............
I had a little bit of chalkboard paint left over from painting the back piece - so I dry brushed
it onto the frame and ended up with this
Avant
Apres
aged and dirtied and antiqued |
vintage mirror transformed!!! |
better, n'est pas?
Courtney from French Country Cottage inspired me to do this one - and she has a great
tutorial on them..............Merci Courtney!
I'm off now to paint the dresser -
Have a wonderful Friday night everyone - mine will include some of this
For medicinal purposes don't you know - I paint better with 70's music playing ( sometimes blasting )
and a glass of this beside me..................
Hoya De Cadenas ( a spanish wine if anyone is interested - the red is delish - but because it's so hot
and humid I'm going to try the rose...............)
And why is it that wine tastes soooo much better after 50???
And if you can, pls send as many cyber hugs to Pat ( from http://gypsyheartandsoul.blogspot.ca/ )
who very recently has lost 2 good friends -
1 is dibilitating.
2?
Impossible.

ReplyDeleteSooo true about wine tasting better after 50, lol!!! I think it's because, like wine, we get better with age...
It looks fabulous!
ReplyDeletethanks so much - hope it sells!
DeleteThe chance you took on the chalkboard paint paid off. Remarkable difference. Filling in the little holes really was a big help.
ReplyDeleteLiz

ReplyDeleteIm now following. Please come visit me at PICKINandPAINTIN.blogspot.com. 8-)
ReplyDeleteCame over from DIY. Love the details on the mirror, now chalkboard. Can't wait to see the dresser. Seriously, get your neck checked out and a bone density test. When i started Feeling weak-legged and dizzy, I found out I have a compressed disk in my neck. I guess from all that furniture hauling!

ReplyDeletewow...love that blackboard conversion!
ReplyDeleteYou did a fabulous job with that frame. Look great! I hope to learn how to do that someday.
ReplyDeleteThe frame is gorgeous! Or I should say...now that you've painted it. I really like how you highlighted the details of it with some of the black paint. I'm going to feature your chalkboard frame on my facebook page. Thanks for linking it up with us at the All Star Block Party!

What a great way to salvage the broken mirror -- such beautiful details on it and a great repurpose. Isn't it true that the older furniture was SO heavy and solid -- made to last a lifetime and in some cases, that was a bad thing, right?!
ReplyDeleteVery nice! Great Repurpose. Thanks for linking up to our first blog hop and sharing.
ReplyDeleteLove it- you did a great job on it and thanks for the shout out :) Thank you for linking up at Feathered Nest Friday!
ReplyDeleteWow, amazing what some paint and rash-filler can do! Seriously, that was a heinous looking mirror but it makes a pretty chalkboard!
ReplyDeleteI really like this. never thought of using chalkboard paint for drybrushing! It looks great. Funny, I have a couple of old frames that have holes drilled in them too - but big holes - like 1/2 inch. I can't quite figure out why they are there! Thanks for linking to our party! See you next week I hope.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a fan of chalkboard paint! You have great creative vision, I'm not sure I would have seen the potential in that old mirror!
ReplyDeleteThis is SO much fun!!! I just re-did (is that a real word.????) an old window and made it into a magnetic chalkboard!
ReplyDeleteAnother great project, but I'm really eyeing up the wine and it's not even 9 a.m.!
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
What a lovely transformation!
