Going back to last weeks My Color paint party HERE - one of the makeovers I chose to do was this
sorry but the only " befores " I have are these
a very simple vintage mid century small dresser - but I thought it had potential to be so much more,
after painting the entire piece in Medieval Blue - by MyColor paint -
I decided it needed even more work to make it " special " so if you notice in the photo above the drawer edges are beveled - making it easy to paint the edges a different color -
I taped the edges
and painted the perimeters - as well as the black plates and knobs I had chosen - the knobs are IKEA knobs and were originally on our kitchen cupboards when we bought this place
Then I decided that the blue was so rich that it would great with some kind of " overlay " work done on it -
and this is where I usually start running around the house looking for ideas or ahem " inspiration " lol -
I feel like such a fake every time I say the word " inspiration " I am by no means an " artist ", but I AM resourceful and so usually can find something laying around to help me with my transformations..............
We live in the city - in a Victorian Row House - privacy is a major issue - and I came up with a solution once when at the dollar store I came across these ( and it DOES relate to the dresser at the end lol )
these panels sell for 1.25 I believe a package - and you get 2 square panels in each pack - so the window above cost 5.00 - excellent value for a privacy screen that still allows light to come in, there are several options - the above are in my kitchen - these are in my office
I had a couple of extra panels of a different design and thought that perhaps they would make a perfect stencil -
now 100% I know this is not a look for everyone - but that's ok because I've decided I'm keeping this one for now ( wink wink nudge )
It's different - it's unique - and it's mine - all mine LOL
Get yourself to the dollar store - you can't find a better stencil than this for the price - and it'll last forever because it's a thick plastic.....................
I could even imagine a Chinoiserie styled wall painted like this somewhere - oh oh - somebody stop me........
can you just imagine THAT conversation in our house tee hee..............................

ReplyDeleteOh that is one beautiful dresser! The stencils for a song?....genius! I love it girl!
ReplyDeletethat is a super cool top. I have never seen those at the dollar store...but I will look for it!
ReplyDeleteI just saw those at the dollarama, too. I love how you hung them in your windows. You've got me thinking!
ReplyDeleteMan, where was this post two days ago, when I went and bought some expensive Martha Stewart stencils, lol?
ReplyDeleteSuzan - I saw these also in the dollarama and thought about how to use them - thank you for the inspiration! Brilliant,
ReplyDeletePeggy
Great inspiration post! You've got me thinking!

DeleteHugs,
I'm a Dollarama queen and I haven't seen these panels! I'd better get back there and check them out. The dresser turned out great! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI'm in Dollarama all the time, and I've never noticed these either. I guess I'll have to keep my eyes open, 'cause what a neat idea for windows! These would really look great in the workshop/games room. And fantastic use for the stencilling! Love the dresser.
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
This is beautiful. Navy is a tough color because it often takes so many coats. I painted my husband's desk navy, and it took four coats. The gold really adds that special pop of attitude.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much - it only took 2 coats - this was a great paint for coverage, I have to say
DeleteHugs,
Suzan

This turned out beautifully. I love how detailed it all is.
ReplyDeleteSusan this piece is amazing! Don't blame you one little bit for wanting to keep it. You're right, it may not work in everyone's home, but if you have a place I think it is fab! I have never seen anything like that at the dollar store. Obviously I'm not looking hard enough. lol! Thanks for sharing with Share Your Cup.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann
Hello, I love the stencil on top of the dresser. I have to ask you when you went to the dollar store where in the store did you find the stencil that you used. I am dying to go get them. Are they in a piticular section? I want to run out right now and go get them. There are many different dollar stores can you also tell me the exact name of the one that you went to. Sorry to be such a bother about this but I need to know exactly so that I am not driving around and walking all over looking for these. Your dresser is really really nice. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHappy Holidays to you and your loved ones.

Hi Debra - I'm in Montreal ( Canada ) so don't think it will help you with which one I went to - but these are dollar store items and I think the bigger dollar stores across North America would most likely have them!
DeleteSo for not being able to help you more than that - I'm afraid you'll have to get in your car after all!!!
