Christmas Tree Ladders!!!

Love them or hate them? I ADORE them!

lad·der

/ˈladər/

Noun
  1. A structure consisting of a series of bars or steps between two lengths of wood, metal, or rope, used for climbing up or down something.
  2. A series of ascending stages by which someone or something may advance or progress.

SOURCE
Creative Chaos decided to go with a ladder this year - love the star on top! Gorgous Jutta!!!

SOURCE
and the fabulously funky junker queen Donna - from Funky Junk Interiors came up with this

 Eclectically Vintage's version

Don't DIY'ers just knock it out of the park?
EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

You just know I had to jump in on the bandwagon, right?
You know I'm just a shameless copy cat, right?
Because if everyone else is climbing the ladder to Christmas Tree success I don't want to be
left on the bottom rung looking up

So I rummaged through the basement - banging and moving things until I found this
John says - what are you doing down there?
Suzan says - looking for the old ladder
John says - for what?
Suzan says - I'm decorating
John says - PLEASE use the newer one  - the old one is really dangerous

Oh but the old rickety vintage one is exactly the one I want to use - John was watching T.V. while
I whipped out some decorations
John says - Do you need help with the ladder?
Suzan says - Nope - I'm ok - thanks
John says - because if you're using the old one I should hold it for you.
John says - Where are you putting decorations that you need the ladder anyway?
Suzan says - Not sure yet - but I know I'll need it so decided to bring it up

She's the kind of girl who climbed the ladder of success wrong by wrong.
                                                             Mae West

Mistakes are merely steps up the ladder.
                            Paul J. Meyer

“He that climbs a ladder must begin at the first round
                                                         Sir Walter Scott

" in this industry there are only 2 ways up the ladder
rung by rung - or claw your way up to the top
it's sure been tough on my nails "
Jack Nicholson

And he walks into the living room just as I'm finishing
John says - WHAT THE?
Suzan says - you don't like it?
John says - NO - I'd really prefer a Christmas tree
Suzan says - well we'll have that too of course
John says - Have you gone completely nuts?  It's a crappy old ladder
Suzan says - It's a Christmas ladder - they're all over the place this year
John says - WHERE?  I'VE NEVER SEEN A FILTHY OLD LADDER DECORATED
AS A CHRISTMAS TREE BEFORE - NOT EVER   HOME DEPOT WOULDN'T EVEN
DO IT
Suzan says - well they're
John says - AND WHAT THE HELL DOES A LADDER HAVE TO DO WITH CHRISTMAS
ANYWAYS???????????????
Suzan says - it's a decoration - it's not a representation of anything at all -
John says - yeah well I think it represents the fact that you're on the verge of a nervous breakdown.
John says - Please do not put this in front of the living room window
John says - You know only in this house would you see something like this, I mean it's ridiculous really
John says - You're serious, aren't you
John says - wait I have an old shitty tool box you can decorate
Suzan says - YOU DO? WHERE? BRING IT UP!
John says - Next you'll be putting lights on it ( staring at my ladder and shaking his head )
Suzan says - OMG - I completely forgot the lights!!!

Suzan says - can you bring me up the other ladder later?
John says - NO!!!  GOOD GOD ISN'T ONE ENOUGH?
Suzan says - don't be silly - I need the other one to actually decorate the house now
John says - Why don't you use that one?

Suzan says - And don't act like you like it when everyone else goes on about it
John roars - Is that what you're expecting Suzan - you think everyone's going to go on about this thing?
John says - I think you're going to be a little disappointed my dear
John says - Welcome - welcome to our home - Merry Christmas - please don't mind the ladder................

and just wait everyone - there's going to be some humdinger conversations going on in this household
before the decorating is over........................

Wait till he finds out I'm off to Home Depot to pick up a couple of empty paint tins to fill to the brim with balls.......................that may just push him right over the edge.
Cost for this decoration - 0.00 - all items on hand!
You cannot push anyone up the ladder unless he is willing to climb.

You are so right Andrew, you are soooo right!
Oh - and I added 1 short string of lights - that's all it needed really to come alive

  2. LOVE IT!! Poor John is going to have you committed one of these days. Somehow I envision him with a perpetual look of bewilderment on his face. LOL I have learned from Donna of Funky Junk Interiors that I should never have thrown away ANYthing...I even had a ladder just like yours...now where is that thing???

  6. I did that years ago when I had cats - cats who loved to wreak havoc with the Christamas tree. So I pulled out the ladder, painted it green, decorated it with non breakable stuff and the cats spent three weeks climbing all over the things and playing with the baubles.

  8. I like yours the best. This is very inspiring.
It is endearing that John told you not to use the dangerous ladder. Then from there your conversation reminds me of Christmas Story when Ralphie's parents 'discuss' the leg lamp. "It's a major award!"

  11. Oh ya. He thinks all this is wacky. I just pinned a whole bunch of these on Pinterest. Lol. In blog land it flies! Can you imagine mt customers faces if I did this in my window. I was thinking of it. Lol. Most of my customers are "John" types even the women. Only a handful get it! :((. I did one window display with a vintage clothing rack, old film wrapped around all my manicans and vintage movie projector. No one got it. In the beginning I had an old ladder in he window with paint. No reason why but all my customers (new) thought I was a bathroom supply store or a hardware store ??? Ah love blog land. :))

  12. OH my gosh, you make me laugh every single time. No wonder you have a blog, your writing equals your furniture re-dos. Seriously... funny stuff. I actually busted out laughing (and I'm home alone) when you wrote your husband's comments about the tool box. aw geez. i'm still laughing. what a geek (me, not you)

  17. What kind of balls will you be putting in the paint can? lol I'm so glad you have joined the sisterhood of the decorated ladder! Mine was incredibly showy done up for fall and quite the delight of the neighbourhood. Wait til John sees what you do with that ladder at Easter!

  18. I am so loving your ladder - I have seen them all over blog land and am loving them. I had one I used to decorate outside but had to leave it behind when we moved. It was old and rickety and ugly but I loved it - hubby didn't get it either, lol....

  19. Suzan, The ladder is wonderful and I had to laugh at your conversation with your husband. Thank you for sharing your pretty Christmas ladder at the Open House party. Happy Holidays.

  20. To rephrase Mae: wrong by wrong you got this totally right!

Tell John he is lucky. I showed Chucks several ladder trees for next year and informed him that in May he is going to build what I want! I have decided this is the last of the traditional Christmases. Next year I will be sixty - let the true craziness erupt! I already have a link to 1000 rusty olive buckets - the only problem is that they are in Turkey.

  22. This a really cool, different idea! Love your sparkling creation.

I wonder what this would look like on the outside of my parent's house. My Dad is always using a ladder, this would make a nice twist.

I'm stopping by from Katherine's Corner blog hop.

    Happy Favorite Things Thursday!
