Another great story for my December series on the Goodness in People
"This is why December is one of our favorite times of the year.
Reddit user mikeoley, posted this heartwarming photo of a letter from the landlord of his Los Angeles apartment building. The letter -- which has since gone viral -- is sure to restore your faith in humanity:
"Please deduct $70 from your regular rent for the month of December and perhaps use those monies to purchase a gift for someone special in your life," the letter reads.
The landlord also expressed his gratitude to all the residents who have continued their stay with the company.
Needless to say, best landlord ever. "
Yes, needless to say for sure - what a wonderful gesture of good will at a time when for some it can make the world of a difference!
I loved this story - because it's something that's within the power of any landlord to do so - John and I were landlords for many years - and I thought we were one of the better ones - ( we did a lot for our tenants - over and beyond and got bitten in the you know what for it ) but still it never crossed my mind to offer a discount at christmas! It just simply never crossed my mind....................in this case charity really does begin at home I suppose - at a home you are renting out to another family.

That must go a long way toward fostering a good tenant/landlord relationship and I applaud them for it! Of course my tenant gifted herself with 4 mths. free rent last year. Somehow, it didn't give me the same warm, fuzzy feeling.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely story! A company practicing the true meaning of Christmas.
ReplyDeleteDebbie :)
Such a wonderful story! Thank you for sharing. :) Megan
ReplyDeleteSo nice. When I had my business in the mall my rent just about doubled for November and December!
ReplyDeleteThank you Suzan for another warm fuzzie story.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's great that not only does this company/landlord CHOOSE to do this for their tenants...they're also ABLE to do it for them! Unfortunately, as nice as it sounds to say that "it's something that is within the power of any landlord to do so", it truly is NOT always an option for a landlord to do this type of thing based, depending on their own financial circumstances. Kudos to this landord for doing this, but, please, let's understand that it really isn't always an option for a landlord.
ReplyDeleteYou're right of course - I was really referring to those that COULD do it - it would never have been the end of the world for John and I to do so at the time - and yet the thought never occurred to me............
DeleteI know that these are tough economical times for all - landlords and tenants alike. I should have clarified what I meant - sometimes my fingers type faster than my brain works................
Thanks!
I love it, Susyq. I believe that sometimes we give even when we can't give and are paid back multi-fold- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful to hear these stories and be reminded that there are still truly good people out there. My daughter had a similar blessing this week...she's getting married in May, working full-time, and baby-sitting whenever she can. She has health insurance, but no dental, and a wisdom tooth coming in. She posted a status on FB, and within minutes the father of one of her families(a dentist) contacted her and offered to remove it free of charge! We can only hope that when opportunities to help others come our way, we recognize it and do a kindness in return.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story Michelle - thanks so much for sharing!!!
DeleteAnd you're right - the key is recognizing when we can make a difference- I think a lot of people are overwhelmed with life - especially in these tough economical times - that we forget the smallest of gestures can make a BIG impact in someone's life!
Big hugs,
Suzan
we need more people like them...
ReplyDeleteI love this! We rent a house and the owners just told us that for Christmas they are taking $250 off our rent!!! We have been renting in different places, and in different states over the past 10 years and have never had anybody take a $1 off our rent!
ReplyDeleteTalia that is such wonderful news - Merry Christmas - enjoy your windfall -
ReplyDeleteLOVE that you shared this!
Big hugs,
Suzan
Hi Suzan!!
ReplyDeleteThat was so gracious of the letter landlord and Talia's landlord to do. How sweet!! I've never had the pleasure of owning my own home and have had some really bad landlords, it's so nice to know that there are some nice people out there.
Have a great week!!!

That is a heartwarming story and very nice of the landlord to do. It is nice to know that there are still people out there like this. thanks for sharing. hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteThat is a touching gesture for sure, and it was nice to read about it. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is such a nice gesture for sure. We're landlords too - can't imagine giving our tenants a discount, it never entered my mind. But then again right now two of the four haven't even paid their rent for the month of December. I think they're getting a discount already - lol (one will pay this week, the other is sadly getting evicted after having moved in Oct 1st and not paid since then).
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I shall propose this idea to Sam. (He may not love it as we have been bitten in the you know what by so many tenants.)
ReplyDeleteThat's wonderful! Hopefully those people will be inspired to pay it forward.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely awesome! This would be tremendously appreciated here. I hope these people do great things for others with the extra money.
