The real meaning of a " SNOW DAY "

What would you do if you opened your front door and saw this?
Newfoundland Canada

source
I'd go back to bed ......................

Americans have an Island - It's called Hawaii
We have a couple of Island's too - one of them is Newfoundland
Take a look at Newfoundland last week..................

"Perhaps not quite as much as what we thought might happen, but certainly a good amount. ... The eastern parts of the island were pretty well shut down due to the widespread blizzard conditions.''

source
" CERTAINLY A GOOD AMOUNT ? "

My God - what were they expecting? How can it be worse than this?  Talk about having a positive attitude!

That was last week - this week in Canada and the Nothern States a deep freeze has set in ..................
Yesterday was -26 celcius ( that's -14 degrees farenheit )
Tomorrow it's going to be a nice balmy -16 ( 3 degrees farenheit )
Time to dig out all my summer dresses I guess

If it keeps up Cat in the Hat will take on a completely new meaning

Source

Ok - all you Southerners - NOT ONE WORD about how hot it is down there lol
Have a good weekend all - if you're looking for me I'll be in front of the fireplace
for much of it - doing absolutely nothing....................

    1. I can't either! Actually I think I'd have a panic attack if I opened my front door and saw that ( for real )
Not good for a claustrophobic lol
What is chilly in Southern Georgia?

  2. I love snow but if I opened my door to a wall of snow I know exactly the words that would come out of my mouth and none of them are fit to print! I am not heading to the mountains in Pennsylvania this weekend because it is supposed to snow this afternoon (a few inches) and traveling on the interstate might be hazardous. We are sissies!! (BTW - low last night here was 9 and the high is supposed to be 23. That is cold enough for me!!)

    1. LOL - the city removes most of the snow - so there is no flooding!!!
This is not where I live - ( Montreal ) this is in Newfoundland - much further north -
You have a wonderful weekend too !!!

  4. If I opened my door to that I would be seriously freaking out. Our last winter with 6inches of snow, 3 inches of ice on top, and another close to 10 inches of snow that left us snowbound in the middle of the city for 3 days was the last one for me. Hence the move to the beach. We are enjoying a balmy 25 F right now with a high of 45. So maybe we should break out the bikinis, lol... But, better than snow any day....

  5. These pictures are pretty sobering. I have never in my life experienced anything like this and I agree, one look at that door would send me back to bed. OK....not one word about San Antonio!!

  7. Ok so it's only snowed here once, not even enough o build a snowman, in my entire life, I simply can it comprehend -26 the coldest it gets around here is about 10 Celsius. That's colder than my freezer! Wow! Looks pretty though :)

  8. Those photos of Newfoundland make me ashamed for being so cranky about winter this morning. This happens every year toward the end of January. I know winter will not be over here until some time in April - and it seems like a long, long, long, long time from now. But we do NOT have that amount of snow. I would be so depressed!!!

Enjoy your fire. I've got mine going too.

  10. My second oldest called from Florida yesterday to tell me it was a luxurious 80 degrees. -_-

I love that picture you put up right before the cat (that's just gorgeous), and I like the cat too. Try to stay warm...and know we're shivering over this a'way too...counting the days until Spring!

  11. We had -42 a couple days ago. (F or C, doesn't matter!) Now it's only -25C.
I've seen snow up to a third of my front door, but that was many years ago.
    Keep warm, Susie!

  12. Thank you for pointing out fahrenheit and celsius differences. I am so metric-challenged, really. Some day the U.S. will convert and we will be able to understand what the rest of the world is talking about. We should put that on our U.S. Bucket List - "Convert to metric." Right after "Investigate North Korea's nuclear program."

  13. So these past few days it has been soooooo cold that I simply open the door and tell the dog to take himself for a walk .....trouble is he looks at me and whines, "do I have to?"

  14. I was just sweating from our 80 degree day here in miami and those photos just cooled me off :)

  15. My back hurts just thinking of moving all that snow. We warmed up today, to 17. Feels like a heat wave after the below zero's.

  16. i saw that photo the other day and thanked my lucky stars that although it's freezing here in Canada, we don't have that kind of snow. I would be panicking - claustrophobia overload - probably would have to jump out of an upstairs window. Couldn't handle THAT much snow.

The good news is that the weather is changing and that we are forecasted a high of 7C on Monday - ridiculous!!

  17. One of my cat says the hat is stupid but on the other paw he'd like boots very much, when he comes back from his quick walk in the garden these days he always shakes his paws, especially the back paws... He's so funny! We have temperatures around 0°C which is quite uncommon here.

    1. My poor little dog does the same thing lol - she has a coat - but won't wear boots!
None of the temps are normal anymore - last weekend I was out walking for hours in a light jacket - this week
it's freezing beyond belief - and their calling for warm temperatures next week again -
      Bizzaro World!

I'll keep my 78 degrees and keep my mouth shut about it.
Well, I'm off to the pool.
    Have a great weekend!

  19. makes me think of a saying I once heard:
A snowflake is one of God's most fragile creations, but look what they can do when they stick together!
Don't know who said it, but oh so true!

  20. Well that actually did happen to us when we lived in Calgary. Took a picture because I almost couldn't believe it. This is why we moved to mid-Vancouver Island, it's the mild spot for winter in Canada, though it's no Hawaii. Patty/BC

    1. Really Patty? Wow - and Vancouver is the mild spot - but didn't you get a lot of snow last winter there too?

  25. It's been so cold here I've been doing nothing but sitting by the fire all week catching up on some reading. It's been kinda nice actually, except when I had to go out to go to work. Brrrr! I'd prefer to be hibernating with a good book anytime.
Hope you have a lovely weekend Suzan! Stay warm!

  26. OMG!! Crossing Newfoundland off my list of places to visit in January LOL Reminds me of the blizzard of '78 in the Midwest.

  27. Oh that makes me shudder. I think it's been bad here. If I ever move don't expect it to be in a Northern direction! I'm so ready for summer - or at least a trip to Arizona!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You speak portuguese, Suzan?

I don't like winter. I don't like wearing boots and all that jazz. I like shorts and flip flops. I vote we put an end to this winter nonsense. Who's with me?

In the meantime, enjoy your fire with a warm cup of cocoa!

  29. What in heaven's name do you people live so far North for? :) Are you crazy? I don't understand how you all get around to work and whatnot and stay warm in that kind of mess. Your power bills must be astronomical in the Winter. :0 You all need to get in your cars, head south and then keep going til the weather changes. Simple as that.

My lips will remain sealed about the suntan I got while painting outside today under sunny skies and 76 degrees. (My lips remained sealed while my fingers typed.)

  31. You're doing absolutely NOTHING this weekend? I am putting three girls under the age of 10 on the bus to your house complete with 6 (count them) types of glue and 8 (plus the bag of the one that spilled) jars of glitter. You will have a grand time and then I can do absolutely nothing this weekend. Have fun. The bus arrives about midnight your time- xo Diana

  34. That is crazy, I would certainly call that a snow day. Pour myself a cup of tea and go back to bed. You guys over there in the East get the worst winters, us Albertans can't even complain compared to what you get. I am sure you are still digging yourselves out.
