Happy Friday everyone - and it is a happy Friday - because while in my lab yesterday I came up with this,
a "By George, I think I've got it" moment!!!
I'm in the midst of painting an antique dresser all white - and wanted a little " color " on the handles -
I LOVE patina.
I started off with these ( my favorite types of handles by the way )
I sprayed them lightly with this ( lightly - leaving some of the brassy color showing through )
Rust-oleum Metallic -
While it was still tacky - I lightly spray painted with the next color - this is called AQUA
Don't ask me why I did it while it was still tacky - I should say I was trying out a new
technique but the plain simple truth is I couldn't wait the 10 minutes it takes for one coat
of spray paint to dry................
and this was the result!!!
Doesn't that look like perfectly aged copper ( Church Steeples ) ?
Watch - I'll start putting patina on everything in sight lmho.................
I may practice this a little more - put in some pinks and a deep turquoise in areas - but for now - I have
patina - fied handles for my dresser! I'm thinking these are going to be so pretty against white drawers!
( they'd look even prettier on a shabby chic dresser )
Ok - gotta run - have a lot of things I need to get my patina on :)
Oh and by the way!!! I just found out yesterday that I had become a no reply blogger -
I had no idea that happens when you switch to Google +
So here I am with a no reply blogger fix on my blog - and I've been a no reply blogger for at
least a month - how embarrassing :(
If anyone has made the switch - chances are you're one too - please visit Fluster Buster for a step by step
fix to this problem!
AND Google should let you know this happens when you switch over, don't you think?
Many many thanks for the feature!

How fun! I love it!
ReplyDeleteOoohh, LOVE those handles. Now, did you rub them or anything, or just spray the one coat over the other? Would it look the same if dry, or is the being still tacky what made it look so layered?
ReplyDeleteWow, love it!
ReplyDeleteI love the handles they look amazing. I am going to have to try that combination too. When I switched to google I couldn't dowload pics anymore so I switched back. hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I must say 'Indubitably Watson, you are a genius!' re the copper!n Must/will try!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, THANK YOU for the link to FlusterBuster! I never EVER figured this out until now! Thanks much!

Love that look, Suz.
ReplyDeleteGoogle...grrrr!
That looks so awesome-oh oh another idea to file under "try me"
ReplyDeletein my brain.
Yes I've just found out it's my problem also and Google should definately let everyone know-it's underhanded not to do that.
Thanks so much Ellie - and yes they should let us know when we switch over that there will be adjustments we have to make!!!

I was laughing when I read your "no-reply-blogger" problem... Like, it couldn't happen to me since I had switch back out of Google +. Then, just to be sure, I checked! Well, it seems that I had been a no-reply-blogger for a while as well, probably since the mess I made when I tried Google +!!! It's all checked now, or at least I hope!
ReplyDeleteHow come I didn't have any trouble with you being a no reply blogger?
ReplyDeleteBliss
I like the word "patina-fy". I decided it's a legitimate word. Coined by you. I patina-fy, you patina-fy, we ALL patina-fy!!! I bought a verdigris kit years ago and, yeah, I was going a little crazy, patinafying everything. I had to calm myself down, lol!!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to more patinafied items from you!!
Have a great week-end.

Just wondering... did all the handles come out like that? Curious to know if this was just a fluke or if others done with the same method looked the same.
ReplyDeleteJohn must think you're brilliant!
Perfection! Where did you get the handles? I'm searching for some for a dresser myself.
ReplyDeleteSuzan...Thank you so much for the info re: no-reply blogger. Me too!! Now if I can figure out how to fix it.
ReplyDeleteGrrrrrr!
It's SO frustrating Betty!!!
DeleteBut if you go to the site I mention above she does a complete fix for dummies - of which I am one!!!
I don't even know if I want to stay on Google plus!!!

So happy I tuned into this post tonight. I've been trying to get the perfect color on some old brass handles. This will do it as I want them to match the Duck Egg blue in the back of the armoire! Yay for YOU! Patti@OldThingsNew

I never noticed you were a "no reply" commenter. You seem to answer back, but that may be just my imagination playing tricks on me! Love the patina trick.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely brilliant! I'm always too impatient to wait for things to dry...so glad that good things come out of impatience!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jenna - patience is highly over rated LOL
DeleteXOX
Love it...I will definitely by trying that in the future!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sara!!!

Hi Suzan! Love this project...think I'm gonna have to try it out on one of the many dressers I have to refinish! I'm a new follower, linking up from the Ironstone Nest blog hop. Hope you'll find time to come and visit me over at the Little Shack!
ReplyDeletei love your new patina and I can't wait to see it with other colors. I too like to spray paint before the first coat is dry. I think it helps to soften the look, or I could be impatient too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing,
Traci
Thanks so much Traci - I think it's that we're impatient ( then we try to justify it LOL )

Thanks Jennifer - will come by!
