Homemaker on a Dime
Keeping it Simple
I Should be Mopping the Floor
Good morning all - OMG the pressure I was under last weekend - because I told you I would have the final reveal up for Monday morning - why why why do I do that to myself?
I was like a firecracker - zipping here and there - changing things around 5 times at least each - made the bed 3 times - 3 different ways - until I was finally so exhausted that I just had to start snapping pics.
I'll post a couple of photos of the entire room - or as much of the entire room as I can manage to fit in and then do " vignettes ".
Please remember - this is a very tiny Master Bedroom - with little storage - ( and very little light - which is what prompted this " white " makeover in the first place ) so it may seem a little cramped but that I definitely cannot change - you gotta work with what you have - so here we go.................( and there WILL be changes made most definitely lol )
This is still for sale - but until it goes it can sit right here
Ok those of you with sharp eyes for details are going to notice things change from picture to picture -
because I am far far far from finished tweaking - so I take a photo - then change something - take a photo then change something - but if I don't put this post up it'll never get done - I'M A TWEAKER, I tweak constantly -
I'll be tweaking on my way to the funeral parlour one day I'm sure.
Here's a few close ups ( vignettes Suzan - they're called vignettes - get with the blog program girl )
I spray painted a basket white - to hold pillows
another basket ( not painted yet ) holds a couple of Christmas Wreaths - because nothing says cottage
decor like wreaths lmho
even the ledge above the doorway
I know I mentioned that I hate fake flowers - but these ones I love - and I spent a fortune on them - so don't tell me they're tacky please..............thank you
Below is a dresser that never sold - and now we've both decided we would rather keep it - it's loaded with history - I'll do a post on this dresser soon - it's painted in ASCP Duck egg blue - and looks so pretty on the white floor
I have a lot of Willow Tree figurines - A. LOT. OF. THEM. - they're all packed away - but these 3 ( given to me by my kids and obviously represent my kids ) will never be packed away - each time I look at them
they are that age in my mind again and they are sitting around me while I read them stories - some memories need to stay very vibrant..........
I hung a burlap shopping bag on one of the cupboard doors
John says - Shouldn't there be a bag on each door - to keep it symetrical?
Suzan says - But if I put one your door - you'll actually use it -
John says - Why, you're not going to use the one on your door?
Suzan says - Of course I'm not going to USE it - it'll lose it's shape and look messy
John says - What in God's name is it hanging there for, then
Suzan says - It's a look John - and you're never going to get it - so stop questioning every single thing
I do - you make me feel stupid, really you do............
John says - Well - I personally feel it IS stupid to hang a bag on a door that you're not allowed to use........
John says - We've got candles we can't light - a bench we can't sit on - a ladder we can't use and now bags we can't fill
Suzan says - Well we DO have candles we can light - don't make it sound like I don't light candles now!!!
Suzan screams - GET OFF THE BED!
John says - Why?
Suzan says - I just made it - and you're getting wrinkles all over it
John walks out of the room................
A little table I picked up for 5.00 - these used to be lamp bases - do you remember them? ( floor lamps )
I filled in the hole where the pole went through - painted it white and did a transfer from the Graphics Fairy -
I did this ages ago but had no where to put it - think I've found a place to put it.
Ok this is so funny that I can't keep it to myself..................not that I keep much to myself anyway.
Once John left the room I tore the bed apart - because there's something about a white room with rumpled white linens that I LOVE - and I was busy busy busy rumpling them in just the right away.........humming under my breath
so busy that I didn't realize he was standing in the doorway just staring at me
Suzan says - Why are you always trying to scare me like that! Its very creepy.
John says - What the HELL are you doing, exactly?
Suzan says - Trying to make the bed look rumpled and messy
John says - I see that - but why?
John says - You just painstakingly made it.
John says - AND I couldn't sit on the BLOODY thing because I might wrinkle it?
Suzan says - I'm doing it for YOU -
John says - Yeah right
Suzan says - Oh, I know, you know how you go on and on about Good Debt and Bad Debt?
Suzan says - well in MY world - there's Good Mess and Bad Mess............
This is good mess
and this is bad mess - very very bad mess - I don't like it - I can't stand it - can you go clean it please?
shhh - don't tell him I took a photo of this.................
His mess confuses me - it gives me anxiety - it upsets me immensely -
My mess soothes me - it brings me peace - and make me feel very happy -
And that's the conclusion of the bedroom folks - stay tuned - I think I'm going to be tackling the bathroom next!!!
Hugs and smiles ( and all that Jazz )

Gorgeous reveal, Suzan!! It's cozy, fresh and well furnished. {And it looks like it'd smell like french vanilla or clean cotton.} I do LOVE how you kicked John off the bed, as he made a cardinal mistake of even getting too close once it's been made. :)
ReplyDeleteXOXO,
Meredith
It came our peeeeerrrrfect! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteSuzan it all looks fabulous! I love all the white and black. Really, I don't think our guys will ever "get it", but at least they tolerate it! You did a great job with your room and reveal. I think you need a bed and breakfast so you can makeover several bedrooms!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love it!
ReplyDeleteSuzan you did a wonderful job! It's just beautiful and soft looking, I can imagine how much you love it! - Susan
ReplyDeletethanks so much Susan - I'm really happy with it ( for now ) lol
DeleteXOX
Gorgeous room. My desk is so messy too. Worse than his!
ReplyDeleteYour makeover is wonderful, and a great choice to with whites. Beautiful, relaxing space. Johns desk looks like mine right now, and I hate it!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bedroom Suzan.
ReplyDeleteYou are ahead of me... I promised mine 2 weeks ago, still not quite so.. you know what I mean :-)
ReplyDeleteYours however is beautiful. I even luv the good mess.
Hugs, Gee
Thanks so much Gee- I think I PREFER the big mess - no guilt that way if I want to take a nap lol
DeleteXOX
The room looks great- unused bag and messy bed and all. He will NEVER get it-trust me! And, HIS desk and MyHero's desk are twins. It drives me round the bend every time I have to walk by the door to his office.
ReplyDeleteBack to the bedroom-you certainly pulled all those elements together nicely, Suzan. Love both dressers, too. I can tell it is a small room and you have certainly made good use of your space.
Take a breather today, will ya? You are making me nervous because you are ahead of me! xo Diana
I looks amazing. I love how you beautiful all of your painted pieces are and they compliment each other so well. Just amazing. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteI live in the same type of apartment as you, on the other side of the mountain, and really? your master is HUGE compared to mine. There is NO way I can fit a chair in mine, much less a bench (tiny as it may be) att he end of the bed.... Le sigh
ReplyDeleteI know - living in the city has it's advantages - but it really does have it's disadvantages too!
DeleteThat's why everyone tends to rip out walls and open everything up.............
A move I'm not prepared to do - because this place was just a place to come and fix up and sell and move on................
XOX
Absolutely love it! Everything just flows together. It must be such a delight to sleep in that beautiful room.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Katie - XOX
DeletePersonally, I'd take your mess over his any day, because his looks just like my desk! And yours looks so comfy and soothing and inviting. sigh. sigh.
ReplyDeleteYou make everything look beautiful Suzan. I think you should come to my house and totally make it over for me. :-)
Just lovely Susan--I'm a sucker for a white bedroom and this turned out beautifully!
ReplyDeleteLisa
Your room looks lovely, very restful and romantic BUT... I don't believe you that it's finished. I just have this feeling you will change out many things!
ReplyDeleteP.S. John's desk looks like mine
Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteTry using that fluff filter on your camera for a photo of John's desk. It might help.
Beautiful Susan!

Anne
Beautiful room, hilarious blog! The room is so comfy and soothing, you did a wonderful job. I love the subtle bit of colour you added.
ReplyDeleteFaye
thanks so much Faye lol - we have the most ridiculous conversations out of anyone I know !!!
DeleteXOX
I like your Willow Tree figurines, that's neat that one represents each of your children, and I agree some memories should stay very vibrant. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL at the good mess/bad mess. I know that syndrome, and I like the good mess bed look too, btw. :)
You did great, like always. :)
Suzan it's all gorgeous and I love every inch of it! Your furniture is so pretty, I wish I lived near you to buy some to redo my bedroom! Sigh...poor John he just doesn't get it does he!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Linda
You and hubby are funny to me!...and I love, love, love your masterbedroom,it is soooooo pretty to me!...keep tweak'n gurlfriend,I love it!
ReplyDeleteYay! You did it! And it looks beautiful! xx
ReplyDeleteFabulous job, it looks beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom is gorgeous. I love the duck egg blue dresser. It's the perfect touch of colour. Did you actually light candles on John not-to-sit bench? Is the baseboard original? It looks really nice.
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love the room! I am constantly sending your posts to my husband to read, because your conversations sound EXACTLY like ours! LOL! It's comforting to him (and me) that he's not the only one who lives in those conditions! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks SO much Lori!!!
DeleteOur conversations are global I think lol -
XOX
I love it. You know I love it - there is no way I could not love something with that much white! great job - and I love a well musssed bed too :)
ReplyDeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteOh my this room came out so sweet. I bet you are just loving it. Very pretty all of it. Your bedroom should be your sanctuary and I think you have it with this makeover. Lovely.
Kris
It turned out great Suzan. Don't tell John but my two favorite things, the ladder and the bench he made.
ReplyDeleteBliss
I love how rustic everything looks!
ReplyDeleteJillian- PS if you have a moment, I'd love to invite you to the giveaway we're hosting for a $50.00 giftcard from Shabby Apple!

Thanks so much - but I'm in Canada - the give aways from Shabby Apple don't apply to us!!!

Suzan
I love it all Suzan! You did a wonderful job with your bedroom. The dresser you decided to keep is gorgeous. I can't wait to see your bathroom makeover :-)
ReplyDeleteEverything is fabulous Suzan!! Just fabulous!! Love, love, love the duck egg blue dresser, and all the special little touches like the so-not-tacky flowers, and the willow tree figures. Just lovely!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Tuula
I think it is beautiful and I love that dresser. You make a small space awesome. I've been working on our master bedroom for what feels like FOREVER and I just revealed it this week too. Please take a peak! http://lifebeginsatfortysomething.blogspot.com/2013/03/master-bedroom-keeping-it-real-reveal.html
ReplyDeleteI wish I could just fall into that pile of bed linens. I bet they smell like sunshine. (Don't tell me - don't ruin the moment.)I cannot believe you got all that furniture into the space. (Where's John's golf club?) It's dreamy!
ReplyDeleteI seriously need to sneek into your house some night and hide in the closet because I want to hear at least ONE of your conversations in person, Suzan!!! lolol (ok...that probably sounded really creepy, didn't it....?) You two seriously crack me up, and I've now purchased stock in Depends to wear every time I visit here. (*snort*) You're absolutely right about the guys not "getting" it. My husband has just learned to keep his mouth closed and go with the shabby prairie chic flow going on over here, blissfully and simply happy with clean linens on the bed and blissfully ignorant of being surrounded by pink ruffles!! lol LOVE LOVE LOVE you, girl!!!! You ALWAYS make me giggle! ♥
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
OH! I forgot to tell you how fabulous your sweet bedroom looks, Suzan!!! (duh!) You worked your fingers to the bone and truly created a warm, cozy, retreat!! And no, your faux flowers don't look bad at all. Verry chic! :)
ReplyDeletexoxo laurie
Your bedroom looks amazing! I love it! I really love the signs above the white dresser, and the ladder, the little bench...oh so gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Larry's desk looks the same. I've asked him if his desk looked the same when he was plant manager. He says no, but then he had a large staff to do all that he does from home now. At least that's his excuse. lol
Debbie :)
WTG girlfriend, you got 'er done and it's perfect! When you redo the bathroom, will there be more or less branches to impale John as he gets out of the shower? Will you be posting pics to show us how he negotiates his way around them? I think a picture is worth a thousand words.
ReplyDeleteThis is a GREAT post, Suzan! LOL
ReplyDeleteI like your bedroom, the bed, sheets, chair, baskets, dresser, three wooden figures (!!!), but I can't find golf clubs anywhere?? :DD
stunning, beautiful, serene, fantastic, special, unreal, love it-love it -love dee x
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful, Suzan. I imagine your white fluffy bed soon covered in chocolate or wine stains. My white bed was promptly removed due to a piggy hubby! Good luck to you!!! I gave up on his office, too. I just close the door and keep walking. ;)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your fluff!
fab u lous job susan it all came together so great it looks so serene & calming love love love it
ReplyDeleteI love it Suzan the bedroom is gorgeous. Every little nook and cranny is decorated and it is stunning. You have such creative vision and you think of things that others would never think of. You can tell that you put a lot of love into this room and it looks amazing. I love your conversations with John, they sound so much like what goes on here. I swear one day they will both get together and have us committed. There are so many gorgeous details in your room everytime I look at the pics I see something else I love. Great job my friend, the room is beautiful. hugs Tobey
ReplyDeleteYour bedroom turned out really nice! It looks great!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME!!!!! And just when I think it can't get funnier......
ReplyDeletelol - it doesn't stop Kammy, in this house it never stops

Okay, a light bulb just went off in my head. The words that went with it were "Oh! So THAT's who she is!" ha ha....I've seen your sweet comments all over blog land (we must visit some of the same blogs) and have been meaning to stop by. So glad I saw your link on Mop it up Mondays. Your bedroom is so serene. GREAT job on the makeover! Love the painted floor, love love love the dressers you did. Love the white linens on the bed. And don't worry, I get the messing it up part. It's a rare husband that does though. Just roll with it. :) I'm heading off to check out more of your blog now. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteDebbie

ReplyDeleteGorgeous! I love the white bed with the dark pillows. I really really love the all white bed all messy :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Suzan....I LOVE all of it! Your pictures just made me want to curl up in the bed & grab a good book. I also collect willow tree angels....love, love, love them. I just cannot pick out ONE thing I love about this room because every little corner of it is so perfect. I even think the size adds to the charm & coziness. Just beautiful! Thanks for sharing it with us :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Suzan, I am in stitches! Your husband's desk looks like my husband's desk which is why I'm glad he finally has a room for his office at the other end of the house. Your room looks beautiful - can I come learn from you? :o) I am in awe.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Cecilia
It's gorgeous!!! So dreamy and peaceful. The painted floor is awesome but my favorite is the black dresser, I think. Nice work!

Love it! It is so beautiful and looks so inviting and restful. Do you ever want to come out of your bedroom now?
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great!!!! It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your makeovers and your bedroom. You must live in Montreal with that dresser. I live in Ottawa. My favourite piece of yours is the dresser that has some striped drawers. Is it blue or grey?
ReplyDeleteHey Ottawa-er - yes I'm in Montreal!!!
ReplyDeleteThe piece with the striped drawers WAS blue - it never sold so is in the process of being made over - that's how it is sometimes lol
Big hugs,
Suzan
Simply gorgeous!!! I love your bedroom and that chest is amazing. Thank you so much for sharing at A Bouquet of Talent. Have a fantastic weekend.

Suzan the bedroom is gorgeous! I love both chest and the ladder. So funny.

Somehow I missed this fabulous post and your soothing mess. I understand completely about the anxiety of his messy desk and your comforting fluffs of white bedding. I also understand tweaking your way to the funeral parlor. Tweaking is fundamental!
ReplyDeleteLiz @ Quirky Vistas
Your bedroom is beautiful! Love the conversations with your husband...they just don't get it! Warm hugs, Esther
ReplyDeletelol thanks Esther - so much!
DeleteIt's ok - I don't get them either!

You are a riot! I love it...and I love how serene the room is now. I also noticed the painted detail on the cabinet door behind the bag, that is a beautiful detail. I have to make my bed everyday. But honestly, on the days that it jsut doesn't happen, the bed feels so much cozier when you get in! Now you can take the rest of the week off:)

Thank you SO much Julian - have a wonderful Sunday
DeleteHugs,
Suzan
Your bedroom looks beautiful! This post is hilarious because it reminds me so much of how my husband and me sound when we are discussing things, particularly things "I" am doing or have bought or checking out how something will look somewhere, etc. The only thing missing is a picture of your husband's face when you looked up at him and he was watching you rip that bed apart after you just told him not to mess it up. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn!!!
DeleteI had to do something - it was very dark - John thinks I'm certifiable - most definitely LMHO
XOXO
Thanks for the link to check out the wood floors. I can't wait to start upstairs now. :D They look gorgeous. Oh, and thanks for the good laugh this morning. That could be me and my husband talking ;) to each other. Only I try to do things when he is away now, to avoid those kinds of convo's. Something about how silly he can make me feel. lol
ReplyDelete
