I live in a pretty incredible area - in Montreal, It's an historical neighbourhood loaded with tons and tons of charm - and 20th century architecture, just steps away from the city center, it's also a pretty expensive neighbourhood ( in which I live in servants quarters basically compared to what I'm surrounded by )
Because there are days I don't have furniture makeovers to show you - I've chosen Wednesdays to showcase and feature one or two homes that are for sale around here.................( or apartment - or duplex - or teepee )Keep in mind this is in the heart of the city - so the prices reflect that - think Manhattan - where these places would cost 3 or 4 times what they're listed for here!
On occasion I'll showcase beautiful homes in other areas - countries - continents - the one thing most of them will have have in common will be their age - because I love old homes with stories to tell, join me won't you?

I thought we'd head out to Newfoundland this week - I've never been there - and though I've always heard how beautiful it is - I never realized just how spectacular it really was until I started doing a little research for this post!!!
There's only one listing to show - because I wanted you to see at least one interior - but really I wanted you to see this magnificent province!!!

I'd love to know the history of the families that have lived in this house - the men of the house most likely made their living from the sea - I imagine songs being sung - and red cheeked children running in from school.
I imagine hard times - because Newfoundland has had their share - but I also imagine perseverance and
a fierce pride.
I imagine strong folk - salt of the earth - friendly - red hair and freckles on smiling faces.
I imagine a Mom - with an apron on - curls being blown around her face - hanging laundry outside.
I imagine pots of chowder on the stove - a fiddle playing - feet stomping - and love - a lot of it.
I imagine a bedroom room window open - and breezes swaying old lace curtains -
I imagine the ocean singing a lullaby with promises of another day of beauty.
I imagine difficulties that are surmounted, families that are closerthanclose and strangers being welcomed with open arms.
I imagine..................a childhood spent as close to Heaven as you can while feet are planted firmly on rugged
beautiful soil.
I imagine a life lived in complete harmony with nature.
And it makes me want to visit.
(I'd Paint this Pink - Or Green - Or Purple - Or Yellow ( you'll see why after )

Oh, it's so charming and perfect! And you will NOT believe this. Newfoundland (and St. John's Island) have been on my bucket list for 30 years. I don't know why but something makes me want to go there and I had not seen any of those fabulous photos. I have GOT to get a passport!!
ReplyDeleteWOW! That is just gorgeous. I wonder if anyone there would like to adopt me? I watched all the ads, it is just such an enchanting looking place.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! My aunt's plane was diverted to Newfoundland on 9/11 and she said the people could not have been more lovely. And she's British, so that's saying something!
ReplyDeleteWhy doesn't the rest of the country embrace color like this? Even for the front door! I would love to see colored doors in my suburban neighborhood. Although having said that, I have peach brick and would not know what color to paint my door.
ReplyDeleteThis post is it's own form of art, Suzan.
ReplyDeleteMan it would be pretty drab living there without all the colourful houses! Love that newfie spirit!!
ReplyDeleteSigh...love the house although I'm wondering how they got that shot of the bathroom...climb a ladder? a balcony? Lol scary thought. What beautiful photos and color everywhere!
ReplyDeleteLove the house - love the area...
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie - gorgeous area, I agree!!!
DeleteXOX
How beautiful! I long to visit this area, too. In fact, I long to visit the entire east coast. I've never been, and the people I know who have say it is incredible. Maybe on day!
ReplyDeleteWOWZA!! You weren't kidding when you said it was the sister companion. the photos are incredible. And I just die for that stained glass window in the first home. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteIsn't that amazing lol? Great minds think alike :)
DeleteXOXO
Those colors are car-razzzy!!
ReplyDeleteAnd Hey Girl...did you notice you hit 1000 followers? I've been watchin'. =D

ReplyDeletethat's it Lauren - just the lighthouse LOL ???
Deleteit IS adorable - but I'm in love with the colorful streets!
XOXO
What a beautiful place and your what I imagines, make it sound full of beautiful, hardworking and friendly people welcoming strangers in for a hot cup of soup. The buildings are so colorful and full of life so it seems. I would paint this a bright color too. Maybe purple with the right color green for the accents. The pictures of the water are so peaceful and lovely. Great post Suzan.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
Beautiful photos, Suzan. Love the videos. What a fantastic place.
ReplyDeleteWish you a great end of the week.

ReplyDeleteSo inspiring over here, and your style is soulful.

What a charming place! I'm also thinking of adding to my bucket list. Lovely post, and I enjoyed your imagination too. laurie
ReplyDeleteThat's the perfect word for it Laurie - Charming - have to spend a week by the ocean there at least once in my life!!!
DeleteThanks so much for visiting

all those colorful homes are just perfect. beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! How picturesque! Those colorful houses are fantastic! And the period details in that feature house are so wonderful! My family arrived from Wales to a Nova Scotia.....I've been there and this is so similar looking! My bucket list is too long already....sigh...
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to go to Newfoundland and Labrador - I love their dogs. LOL. The rustic, harshness of the land combined with the wild beauty of the sea just captivates me. So invigorating! Places like that just make me feel ALIVE! I wish we could have added Newfoundland to our trip to Quebec, but we don't have the extra time or $$, unfortunately. Maybe we'll get up there someday....
ReplyDeleteOh I'd love to also Betsy - it just looks so gorgeous !!!
DeleteBut it's a long way from Quebec - I think it would definitely have to be another vacation entirely!
XOX
I've been to every province except this one. It looks amazing! Love the different colours they use on the houses. And we Ontarians are afraid to paint our doors a different colour. I don't get it.
ReplyDeleteWe have a neighborhood here - The Plateau - where they paint everything with bright colors - soooo pretty!!!
DeleteBut the ones in Newfoundland look so vivid - I'm just in love with them!!!
XOXO
Oh Suzan! This is my favorite "I wanna live there" ever! I watched that second video twice! So colorful, serene and just lovely!
ReplyDeleteLOVE it all, and the way you captured it!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I love your word picture! And I definitely like this house - a lot - and the neighborhood - and the sea - and I want to go there - now.
ReplyDeleteEeeek! Just love love love all those bright colored houses!
ReplyDeleteWell you nailed it again, this is gorgeous, Suzan. All of it. What a beautiful place that would be to raise the kiddos.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that is a beautiful place. When you said you'd paint it pink I was a little like ewww, but how stunning is the veiw of all those bright colours. Love this!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking the "pink" palace :)
DeleteNow that's a house I can totally picture myself in. I love the entrance with the stained window... And the surroundings are just to die for? Shall we plan a holiday together there?
ReplyDeleteWe've been to Newfoundland and, being a girl who loves colour, I gotta say I felt totally at home there. The people are just as welcoming and colourful as their houses. Once we went we wondered what had taken us so long to go there. Absolutely loved it, and will definitely go back some day. Wonderful post Suzan!!! You did a proud people and province very proud!
ReplyDeleteOMG! I loved the house, but then you took me around the town. Another OMG! Steve and I need to visit so he can do some paintings of those amazing houses and hills.
ReplyDeleteI would never be able to decide what color house I wanted!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful home tour. Can't believe how colorful Newfoundland is!
ReplyDeleteI can't either - but oh how I'd love to see it in person!!!
DeleteThanks for coming by Tammy!!!
XOX
Love it! We have a dear friend who travels to Newfoundland. He shared some photos. And they look just like your post. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh how lucky for him!!! It must be breathtaking in person Carla!!!

What a beautiful place. Love all the bright colors. I missed my chance a few years ago to travel there. I was working down east in Cape Breton and should have headed to Newfoundland after the job was done. It's on my bucket list though :)
ReplyDeleteOkay so I watched the first video and you are right!! They are amazing ;) I might just watch them all. Breathtaking place.
ReplyDeleteThose colors are so stunning! So cheerful. I want to go up there and see.... :)

Oh I enjoyed touring this beautiful old home. I love all the features of the elaborate fireplaces, the french doors, stained glass windows etc. It's a beauty. I live in New Brunswick and have never been to Newfoundland but I love the rugged beauty and the colourful homes there. You did a great job advertising for them! It's great to promote parts of our beautiful country. I'm visiting from Savvy and the photo Kim used grabbed my attention. Have a great day! Pamela
ReplyDeleteGorgeous colors and pictures! Breathtaking!
ReplyDeleteNewfoundland was the most charming place I have ever visited. My daughter was married there last year and, thanks to her choice of locations , one of my dreams came true. I intend to go back again soon. Thanks for bringing back so many wonderful memories.
ReplyDeleteoh gosh you have made me homesick, it is such a beautiful part of the world, the home has so many interesting details to appreciate
