Or rather, I DID have a before but I have no idea what I did with it..................so close your eyes and imagine.
The dresser had been painted black many many years ago ( and resided at my daughters ) but it was chipping everywhere ( and drove me crazy every time I saw it to be honest with you because it wasn't that chippy perfection - instead it looked like it needed a good overhaul ) I kept offering to paint it for her but the timing was never right - until one day she asked if I wanted it............
YES PLEASE !!!
With 12 drawers I most definitely wanted it !
The black undercoat was perfect for distressing actually
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ( pure white )
This piece has such great edges to do a little sanding on -
It's sitting in my ( enclosed ) porch until I can get my Son and Son in Law over at the same time - this things a beast - heavier then any dresser I've worked on before I think - and it needs to go upstairs in my bedroom where it most definitely belongs................
Originally I thought I'd use it for the downstairs bathroom vanity - but it's a few inches too long for the space
So the one in my bedroom now will be brought downstairs to use as a vanity instead
John says - It's like musical chairs and dressers and armoires and desks in this damn house .......................
Suzan says - But this one will work much better in our room - it has more drawers
John says - YOU HAVE BOTH GUEST ROOM DRESSERS FILLED TO THE BRIM - AS WELL AS OUR BEDROOM - HOW MANY DRAWERS DO YOU NEED EXACTLY????????
Suzan says - Relax - stop getting yours in a twist already.
Ok - have to start that dining set now - ( there's 2 complete dining room sets in the dining room - you don't want to hear the conversation about that - trust me )
Or that I desperately want to keep the new one I just bought and sell the old one - which John still likes
( I'm at the point where I'm thinking he's just saying he likes it to spite me ).
And thankfully the BEFORE shots are safe and sound on those pieces - so you won't just be left with only an after !
This enclosed porch has 2 identical sides on either side of the front door - wonder what else I can fit on the other side - perhaps a dining room set? LOL !!!
Not ideal - but at least it's out of the line of fire !
Have a wonderful day everyone !
Hugs,
Me

ReplyDeleteThat is such a Gorgeous dresser. A person can never have too much storage space.
ReplyDeleteRemoving the drawers makes for easier and lighter in moving of the dresser.
Great job Suzan! You are so talented. xoxo from warm, sunny (hot and humid actually) Florida!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful transformation. Love the white and the new hardware.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so beautiful! Great spot for it too.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out beautifully! Good luck with the dining sets!
ReplyDeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great re love of this dresser. Ohhhhh it is so awesome and will look so great in your bedroom. I love the dresser from the bedroom being used as a vanity. You go girl this is going to be awesome. I drive Terry crazy with my switch -er- roo's of furniture pieces too.
Kris
It looks great! Good luck getting that baby upstairs. I'm starting to check furniture out for weight before I buy it for my house now. That's my age showing for sure.
ReplyDeletewowsers Suzan.....super great
ReplyDeleteThe piece is amazing. John must see it'll look great n he bedroom, he just won't say it!
ReplyDeleteIt is a great piece of furniture especially since you redid it . The knobs really do help it stand out even more. Lovely Susan.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Marlene !!! It has tons of storage room with 12 drawers -
DeleteThe thought of getting it up those narrow winding steps is giving me anxiety though lol
xoxo
I love where you have it right now. It looks like the perfect spot and fits in just so, but I know how it is when YOU have this vision of where you want it to go! I have this behemoth of a dresser that must be made of petrified wood because it weighs more that I DO!!! My hubby is a real HEMAN....you know a "barbell boy" of sorts who still lifts weights into his upper 60's (age). He heeved and he hooed and he cursed and he spat and he squatted and he pushed and he pulled till his eyeballs almost popped out of his head. "Golly Nan, what do you have in those drawers? Rocks!?!" BRAINSTORM!!! "Let's take out the drawers and see if we can move the darn thing!"
ReplyDeleteMiracle of miracles as the now empty dresser walked up the stairs on its own four feet! Those drawers, even empty, can weigh a ton! HUGS! Nanny
Well it may just have to stay there because I have no idea how it's getting up that narrow winding staircase LOL.
DeleteWe took the drawers out to move it to where it is now - but even with the drawers out this is a complete beast - NO way I can help get it upstairs - it would topple on me and squash me like a bug - most defintely LOL
XOXO
This turned out great!

Great piece. I too have a console/buffet that was used in my entry way. 13 years later I still have it and my vision was to use it as my sink/vanity in my dressing area. Dang it's 3 inches too long! I even had a left over piece of granite cut for it. So now it will be hauled upstairs to my extra room for storage. It's old it has storage to store albums-records!! Standing up! And felt lined drawers for silver. It's patiently waiting for paint. Hey its been 13 years what's a few more months!
ReplyDeleteOh no - you had granite cut for it before measuring if it would fit? LMHO - hello twin sister !!!
DeleteXOXO
Beautiful dresser, I so wish I had it, need it for our bedroom! Love your porch too, can't wait to get our old ugly, stinky one ripped off and rebuilt. Your old dresser is perfect for 2 sinks. xo Patty
ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought I was special--w/ 2 dining room sets in the DR. Well, one table and as many chairs from each set as i can fit in while i reupholster & paint……Now i have them, i don't care to keep either, as i'm returning to the furnishings of my youth, colonial revival….The builder's chandy has tried all sorts of cosmetics (paint) but only dull black will make it look right. Please, someone, post an appropriate sideboard for sale…..
ReplyDeleteMy dining room is sealed up lol - looks like a storage unit in there right now - we haven't touched that room since we moved in and it looks like a tornado hit it to be honest with you !
DeleteFunny you mention your chandy - the on in mine is a dull black as well !
Get yourself on Craigs List for that sideboard girlfriend !!!
xxx
PS I love the piece you did over and hope i don't miss the post about how you get it into place……poor John….he needs a vacation, doesn't he?
ReplyDeleteNah - nothing special about getting it into that " nook " lol !!!
DeleteYes, it is perfect with its black edges! I'm looking for a dresser or buffet to use in our bathroom for a vanity. I think this one would be perfect. Lol. Good luck with getting to keep the dining set you want. I'd love to switch things out, selling the old and keeping the new. Bruce, however, is like John. Gets attached. Ha.
ReplyDeleteLove this piece...it's beautiful!!
ReplyDelete~Cindy
Ha! Nice word play on the drawers... I laughed. :) It is really pretty, and is that floor made of stone???? I love the way the floor looks!!
ReplyDeleteSeems to fit perfectly and look beautiful right where you have it! What a gorgeous job Suzan! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI love that dresser. I can't be sure that you really did re-do it though with no before pictures,,,,I think I might have done that one, but of course I lost the before pics too...hehe You did a fantastic job Suzan!
ReplyDeleteso so pretty!

wow, it looks great. I'm wondering if it is made by Drexel? It resembles the dresser my parents have had since the early '60s.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Sandy - I thought it was a Drexel too - but it's an " American of Martinsville " ( out of Virginia )
