A back door vignette

I mentioned last week that I've been busy working in the room off the kitchen ................
It hasn't been easy.
It's a disgusting addition that's literally threatening to detach it self from the building and run to another house where people could restore it properly.
It's hanging on by a thread ( almost literally )
It's crooked and has no rhyme or reason whatsoever - other than it houses the washer/dryer and freezer and since we have nowhere to put those 3 items it has to stay for now.

Well....... it's taken me 3 days of non-stop work to just do the little entrance way ( basically 4 feet by 2 feet) I'm a quick worker but painting and scraping and caulking and base boarding and trimming and washing 50 years of filth away into the atmosphere so that my neigborhood gets to share in all the toxic fumes - takes time.
I haven't touched the room itself yet but thought I'd show you a little vignette ( don't you feel like a professional something or other when you use the word " vignette " ? )
I'm only showing it because I've used some more of the Ikea " flowers " in the decor - if you missed yesterday's post ( I HATE doing this - HATE it - but I'm going to include a link anyway because it strengthens character to do things you hate )  HERE

John was NOT on board with this idea -
John says - It's too crowded
John says - We use the front door - why do we need hooks at the back door?
Suzan says - You know, when you're working outside in the Fall - it'll come in handy -  you'll see

Until he actually put a jacket on there
It was a light BLUE !!!
All wrong - (  the complete wrong shade of blue to boot ! )
Suzan says - No no no - that looks awful
John says - THEN WHAT'S THE POINT ???????????????
John says - You've got wreaths and hearts and bags..............it's meant for coats
John says - And how are you going to pull that hat off when you're gardening ?

Suzan looks at him horrified
Suzan says - That hat's not to wear !!!!!!!!!!

John says - WE ALWAYS HAVE THE MOST DISFUNCTIONAL HOMES ON THE PLANET !

Well, personally, I wouldn't say the most disfunctional - that's going a bit too far.- because as we all know not all hats are meant to be worn - and not all coat rails are meant to hang coats on - c'est pas complique - or maybe it IS complicated - I'm not sure - I just know that I have it all figured out.
And John doesn't.

BUT - he does live here - so..................
Suzan says - I'd be willing to forfeit the burlap bag for a black jacket or even a beige jacket
John says - Thank you - that's very kind of you Suzan

You simply do not mess with a lady and her vignettes.
Ever.
Now on to the rest of the room
Dear God.

Just as soon as we finish arguing over the importance of putting a tin ceiling in there
And that may take months
I rank it high
John ranks it very very low

John says - We'll work with what we've got - you're pretty good at that actually

Mmmmmm - not happening
This house - which was supposed to be a fun fixer upper - has quickly become the fixer upper from hell !
It's Vintage ............gone horribly wrong lol

I absolutely CANNOT hide that with burlap and wreaths.............
I'm ohsoclose to just having the entire structure torn down and building a big deck in it's place - ( and washing our clothes in the bathtub )

Did I mention I bought 3 sets of these flowers?
Did I mention that when I like something I buy it in multiples...............just in case - oh I don't know - they stop selling them ?
And why that would send me into a complete state of panic I have no idea.
Neither does the doctor.

Have a wonderful day everyone !

  1. OMG! I am sooo happy your mudroom (as we call ours) is a POS like mine! I will send you pictures of my back entrance and laundry area and then we will decide who's is worse. This will be so much fun, promise : ). Love your vignette and the frame you made with the little wire plants and pots. If I ever get near an Ikea I will go nuts. Have a great day! xo Patty

  3. Lol, well you do manage to find uses for your multiple purchases so I wouldn't sweat it too much.
Yeah, keep pressing for a tin ceiling; what's in there is awful. Your vignettes are always lovely (love that word too, lol!). I can't seem to create any right now- I've got projects crying out to be done and I'm just plain stuck in "I should get to work on those" mode. Sigh. Maybe I need a vacation?

  4. HI Suzan, I'm behind in visiting so I used your 'link' to yesterday's post. Thank you for that!! I think the flower pots are really cute. Question: did you cut off the base that helps them stand up so you could hang them instead? :) I like the coat hooks area and the decor. Your 'mud' room is a work in progress but I know you will work your magic there one way or another. A rainy drippy cool day here. Enjoy! xx Pam

  8. I have a saying, that if I want more, (like 3 of something..or even more) I should have more, cuz you know..more is always better and I am so worth "more" And just as you wrote, I may not be able to get more "later" and that would be something awful. You make me smile big time, love your vignette.

  10. I like your vignette and the fact that John can only hang colour-coordinated attire there! Why not just "accidentally" knock those ceiling tiles with a stick, they are sure to fall down and then John will have to do something to fix it.

  11. Super cute vignette Suzan. I was in Ikea last Friday and didn't see those adorable flowers! I wish I had because I would have bought some for sure. Bummer! Sounds like you need to buy John a new jacket to fit in with your color scheme...lol! Have a great week! And...BTW, a pressed tin ceiling would look amazing!!

  15. Your conversations with your husband are hysterical--raw and real :) I grew up in Plattsburg, NY, less than an hour south of Montreal. Love your city and would like to get back there some day. Your back door decorations are just perfect. IKEA's the best, isn't it?

    1. Hi Diana ! Wow, we were neighbors !!!
We went to Plattsburgh all the time ( the beach ! ) and shopping.
It's not as easy as it used to be to come and go across the border ( do you remember how we were just waved through each way? ) Thanks so much for the door decoration love - our conversation's are quite universal I think LOL
Yes, Ikea IS the best !!!
      Hugs,
      Suzan

  17. I do love the vignette you created, in the middle of chaos, apparently. But I understand how the concept of a coat rack not meant to hang coats is difficult to crasp for a man...

  18. I love the flowers and the vignette looks good to me.... so funny that John hung a coat on the coat hook.... how dare he LOL!
    Have a good weekend!

ikea is far for us but darn I really like wall sculptures like these plants.

Btw, why do you hate adding links? I - for one - really enjoyed reading what you did with the framed metal plants. Really liked that so much, I'd like to subscribe.
