There's a rocking horse who's on his own
by the downsatairs landing he sits all alone
He's chipped and nicked and feeling sad
Remembering all the fun he once had
He wonders why no one looks his way
He wonders why little boys never stay
It's hard for a rocking horse, you know
For try as they may, they just never grow
They end up in thrift stores and sometimes much worse
That's just the fate of the Rocking Horse curse
When all it would take from finish to start
Is to look very closely for the Rocking Horse heart
They all have one buried deep in their wood
And they'd show them to you if only they could
But if you look closely - sometimes late at night
You'll hear it - and see it - oh what a delight
And they dream of a time ( or that's what they say )
When a child hopped on them and galloped away
Galloping, rocking, and being held tight
By someone who loved them with all of their might
So next time you see one ( and if he's alone )
Run as fast as you can, pick him up, take him home
Clean him and brush him even paint if you can
And present him with flourish to your own little man........................
Cuz when all's said and done & push comes to shove
They only need paint..............................
And a whole lot of love.
To Evan
( your presence is more anticipated than words can express )

I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - Pure White and Graphite to customize the Grey ( roughly half & half )
and Emperor's Silk for the Red trim..................
My soon to be Grandson inspired the words
And even though his tail has not been stapled on yet...................we can say he's done, right
The " funnest " piece of furniture I've ever painted !
So much so that I'm on the lookout for another one as I post this :)
Have a wonderful day everyone !
Much love

Oh Suzan, this is sooo sweet! I love the poem, and the rocking horse is darling!! You did a great job -- I can see the love in your work. Congratulations on your soon-to-be grandson. Is this your first grandchild?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and have a great day. :)

Grrrr....I wrote you a whole little poem that "disappeared"....
ReplyDeleteAnyway:
I love that little horse,
Of course-oh- of course.
He is perfect in most every way.
Except as a male,
He does need that tale,
So he can go outside to play.
He's a dear little chap
And gave you no flap
when you painted him all grey and white,
But watch out, my friend,
That in the end,
He doesn't bite you tonight.
So go find another,
for he needs a brother,
To keep him some fine company.
The best part of course
Is that your sweet horse
Will never have to go pee.
okay- I am done,
I've had toomuch fun-
So,off I go for the day.
But, I will be here
to shed another tear
when You paint hte next one like a bay!
Aperfectly regal grey and red horse for Evan! So sweet! xo Patty
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Patty !

ReplyDeletePlease tell me you are giving the poem along with horse, you are gonna be his favorite grandma. Lucky little man! :-)
ReplyDeleteYes I am Karla !!!
DeleteThanks so much - this little guy is going to have 2 doting grandma's!

I loved your poem and your paint job. You're taking the becoming a Grandma thing a little better than I did. Your poem registers all the love and joy of the situation. The poem I wrote the night my oldest daughter called to tell us she and her husband were pregnant was titled...Do I Look Like A Grandma To You?
ReplyDeleteBoth the beautiful poem and the rockin' rocking horse with the new look are lasting treasures if you ask me!!
ReplyDeleteGreat update, and not too different than one we made 30 years ago, right down to the red mane.
ReplyDeleteYou are so darn clever. Love how you brought the worn out rocking horse back to life. I'm sure it will be cherished for years. Thanks for sharing at VIParty.
ReplyDeleteAdorable and loved your poem. Your soon-to-be grandson is one very lucky little boy. -Brenda-
ReplyDeleteP.S Hope you signed and dated it.
Thanks jso much Brenda !!!
DeleteI still have to sign and date it ( thanks for the reminder ! )

ReplyDeleteSo sweet and I loved the poem! Talented in so many ways! We have a new little grandson and his name is Evan also. Now I know he'd love a horse like that! Thanks for sharing it with SYC.
