Ashley needed a rocking chair for Evan's nursery.........................and I searched for a long time before I found this.
All the other rocking chairs looked slightly flimsy - this one screamed " big comfy rocking chair " to me and when the ad read " We used this for our children " I knew I'd found THE one !
But it needed a makeover -
I started by painting it Graphite from ANNIE SLOAN CHALK PAINT ™
Next I added some 3 inch foam to the seat to make it thicker and to hide the indentation of previous bums LOL ! ( it also felt way too low - adding 3 inches of foam gave the seat a little height )
Ashley's favorite pattern is Chevron - so I bought some grey and white fabric to reupholster it with and then lightly sanded all the edges.................and then finished it all off by personalizing it with his name
It's quite a big chair ( it may end up in the living room instead of his nursery )
But it's incredibly comfy !
But for now we'll get it delivered so that Mama can test it out!
A little bit of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ™
A little bit of Chevron fabric
And a whole lotta love.................
The thought crossed my mind that IF they have another one and IF it's a girl - and IF they don't mind too much - I'd like them to call her EVA - then I could just replace the N with a heart or something LOL
Much love,
Me

Hi Suzan. The chair looks gorgeous after your makeover. Love it.
ReplyDeleteHugs from here
Evan is the luckiest child not born yet to have a____ like you! What have you decided to be called?
ReplyDeleteGreat makeover ~ it DOES look comfy! {and it doesn't make me puke!! } ;)
ReplyDeleteYou re loved this beautifully. Evan has the best grammy and he has not even arrived yet!!!! You rocked it on this one.
ReplyDeleteKris
Suzan, the chair's history is wonderful and the makeover stellar. Way to "rock" the rocking chair. :) I know it is going to be loved for many more years!! ~ Christina
ReplyDeletePerfectly perfect! Especially for Mom's tender tush - but we won't tell her about that! xo Patty
ReplyDeleteOh, the future parents are going to be so grateful... that you save them the trouble to find a name for the next child!
ReplyDeleteYou must be getting so excited Suzan! I became a grandma in March and OMG that little man stole my heart and soul. Be prepared, when little Evan comes to Loli's house, the world will STOP. LOL re: Eva Love the rocking chair makeover!
ReplyDeleteI've never been sooo in luv
ReplyDeleteIt looks so comfy. I love her baby bump selfie.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great. Oh goodness! I hope they don't do that to their children...name them similarly. Lol. My husband's family all have "B" names - his parents even went and fat as giving the pets named that started with "B". Oh brother. It was(is) funny.
ReplyDelete:-)
It's beautiful!! You're such a good Mom and Grandma! I agree, it's nice to know there is history with the chair but now it'll be for a new history (make sense?!) I think the Eva name is a good idea too. Pretty name. You're so creative! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much !!! Yes you make perfect sense lol !
DeleteHope you're having a great week too !
xox
The rocking chair turned out beautifully! Lucky little Evan to soon have you in his life. Hope you get to spend some quality time with him in the very comfy-looking rocker!
ReplyDeleteI see what you mean about the chair not being "flimsy". Good and sturdy will last through however many children your daughter decides to have.
ReplyDelete{If Katie ever had a baby, we decided that I would be called Poppi. But, that isn't going to happen. At least I don't think so!}
Somewhere along the line, I thought Katie said you are going to be Lolli and John was going to be Pop. {Katie calls her dad Pop, thus Poppi would have been for a little one to call me!} Were you just kidding at the time? I THINK I'm up to date on your posts, and I don't remember seeing anything.
What a Beautiful makeover. Love the color as well as your cushion.
ReplyDeleteA whole lot of rock'n will be going on for sure
The paint is great, but the cushion is just FABULOUS!!
ReplyDeleteVery stylish and it looks super comfy.
ReplyDeleteIt's perfect and sure looks sturdy and comfortable. Love the transformation. Thanks for sharing at VIParty.
ReplyDeleteLovely and a comfy bum is important in the wee hours of the night. Lucky bubba and mummy.
ReplyDeleteThat's a big old fabulous chair! You're lucky to have found it. Love the graphite. My daughter is now on her 3rd nursery rocker because all rockers are not created equal. This one looks really comfortable. Do you think that the old rockers are so low because people were shorter back then? There's nothing worse than trying to keep a baby asleep while getting out of a rocker that is too low!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet and pretty! I have a vintage rocking chair I used with my children and now I am using it for my grandchildren. This is a nice idea on how to jazz it up and make it more up to date!
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop. Watch for your feature on Monday xo
ReplyDeleteSuzan, the chair is darling and perfect for mom to rock little Evan to sleep! I get to tend our little 3 month old Evan for a while tomorrow. He has turned in to a little bundle of chubbiness! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
ReplyDeletehugs,
Jann
What a wonderful chair for little Evan to be rocked to sleep. Love the color and the chevron - so pretty. Thank you for sharing at Share It One More Time. Cathy
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Cathy !

Oh Suzan... it's PERFECT!!! The history... the color... the extra padding... the fabric... and the stencil. But good luck with having an "Eva." She'll probably have all boys. :) Okay... silliness aside. I do love the name Eva. Sending blessings to you and your daughter and Evan. And hoping your heat wave has subsided. We're in for some cool temps here in Michigan this week. Fall's approach seems to be a little too fast for me. :)
ReplyDeleteThat is such a conversation piece for a nursery! Gorgeous! #loulougirls ---- Amy @ http://thegiftedgabber.com/strawberry-margarita-sherbet-float/
ReplyDeleteOh so pretty and comfy too - a treat for mom and baby! Featured at Be Inspired this morning. Thanks for sharing Suzan!
ReplyDeleteI love your makeover! I too, have an heirloom rocker passed down.....from my great grandmother! It's over 100 years old!!! It's really well made, but not really my style....great idea to make it into my own!
ReplyDeleteActually the photos are misleading - it's a very large rocking chair :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Suzie !
