I WANNA live there Wednesday # 139

Good morning everyone !

This week I thought we'd explore Lachine ( Montreal )
It's a beautiful neighborhood in Montreal - bordering the Lachine Canal - which is part of Parks Canada national historic sites - being one of the oldest pioneer villages in Canada.
If you're a history buff you can read it's history HERE - it's pretty interesting - dating back to the time of Native Indians ( Iroiquois ) and forward..................

Lachine ( pronounced LA SHEEN )gets it's name from the French words La Chine ( China ) when explorers were trying to find a route from New France to China..............and so the canal was named Lachine !

I'm showing 2 properties today - here's the first one !

Built in 1877
7 beds - 6 baths
Detached garage
2,500,000
Realtors - CHARLENE GRABOWSKI AND ERIC TARANOWSKI

Remember price reflects Location Location Location !
And it's a beauty - I love how they've kept a lot of the original features -
Here we go !

Master Bedroom

And if that one was a little pricey - there's always this condo/loft !

Price - 184,900

Realtor - DANIEL MACKAY

Wonder where that staircase leads too ?

What an incredible bonus for the price - just love this space !

Hope you all have a wonderful day !
Hugs,
Me
P.S - someone mentioned that the pics on this post are " shaky - as in you'll get motion sickness looking at them "  please let me know if this happens to anyone else?  Many thanks !

  4. The pictures are fine on my end, not shaky at all. Both places are very nice. The large house is gorgeous, but at this stage of my life, the condo would suit me much better.

    1. It would probably suit me much better also Karen - and those few steps up to the roof deck are perfect.
But I'd probably torture myself and move in that big one if I could afford it ! Think of Thanksgiving - Easter and Christmas gatherings in that home - O.M.G !!!

  5. Thank you Suzan of course I would pick the house over the condo, but a big price tags comes along with it. Interesting features and a little interior remodeling and set to live in the historic area of Montreal. I actually would have loved to have viewed that sweet stone house with the red trim that sat on the waters edge of the canal and I am sure it's has a pricey tag due to location and view.

Look at all that stone work that surrounds it in amazing grace and beauty.
The larger home here is really unique love some of the angles and those leaded windows, the kitchen has this galley charm to it, yet I would think an up and do,I got young couple would do best in a home like this could you imagine climbing all those flights of stairs on a daily basis, the home needs a small elevator closet to get you from the third floor to the first.

I visited Vancover Canada when I was in my late teens and fell in love with it, I really could see myself living in Canada it's just so charming and beautiful.

Thank you dear for not only visiting my latest post, but the older one with the make over I gave an outdated armoire, and Suzan you are always so good at stroking someone's ego with the best words of encouragement to anything possiable.
Thank you for inspiring so much history and beauty I'm stone cottages, and leaving comments that joy ones days.

    See you soon.

    Xx

  6. Hi Suzan, its not shaky- but it's the wackadoodle shape of that dining room...I think it isn't square----follow the ceiling line on the second picture, or the pics are exaggerated to get the features in...but yes, seasickness was a thought on that one. Otherwise I was good. Gorgeous...and the canal is fascinating and in excellent shape. I'm a bit of an Erie Canal Buff...so I'm always interested in canals. Thanks for the tour, Sandi

  8. Think of all the painted furniture that it would take to fill that first house! Great fun buying and painting more stuff! I would, I'm sorry have to paint the woodwork and the floors, is that sacrilege, oh well, don't have to worry too much about that do we? Another beautiful webby day!xxxxxx

    1. I know - but think how fun it would be to find the perfect pieces - and I'd be painting the woodwork too Mary Anne - but we shouldn't admit that on a public forum you know LOL

  10. Wow, I like them Both. The first one is too pricey, as you noted, but so nice and large and vintage! Are property taxes and home owners fees very high in Montreal? About how much would the monthly Home Owners Association Fee and the yearly Property Taxes be on the loft? You may not know, but I was wondering especially about Property Taxes--if they tend to be High in Montreal.
The Lachine Canal area looks gorgeous! (The only tiny bit out of focus, but still viewable, identifiable and enjoyable pic was the 2nd one of the canal. ALL of the other ones were perfect.)
Thank you, Dear Suzan, for all of your great blogs and for setting my fantasies free to wander your beautiful area and others!
    Hugs,
    Laura/Hazel/Ethel

    1. Taxes depend on the area - Lachine wouldn't be as expensive as other area's because it's not in the heart of the city ( where taxes can kill you almost ) but yes I think we generally pay more for taxes here in Montreal ( have no idea what the rural area's are like ) not as high as N.Y. though :)
Hope you're having a great weekend Laura !

    1. I've been on the boat tour down at the rapids - but I'd be terrified to go kayaking there ( although I see a lot of them out there whenever we go by )
I'm not that brave LOL but yes - Lachine is pretty awesome ( great restaurants too ! )
