My $116,950.00 frame

My ex did not believe in child support - every now and then he would throw what I think he considered " a little gift " our way - the kids are now adults but I still figure he owes me, oh I'd say, 117,000.00 in arrears -
So when my daughter called me to say Dad has a frame he thought maybe you'd like to do something with, I thought " wow - this frame better be priceless "
Here is what she brought me

mmmmmmmmmm, ok, let's just stick that in the basement for a few months shall we? - but we
did have a good laugh about it ( my daughter and I ) when she mentionned that he wanted
to know if I could redo a dresser ( I think it was ) in exchange for it...............
Mr. Ex - you have more nerve than a toothache.

Anyways I dragged it up tonight - this is one heavy sucker - and started tackling it -
First I just slapped on some white paint

Already looking better - oh the power of a girl and her paints

Next I put a quick coat of  Paris Grey

It doesn't matter what it looks like at this point - there are many more layers to come!
And there is no " method " either - like I said it's just literally slapping the paint on

Next color - Duck Egg Blue

The beginning stages of a " patina " -

Next I painted it with a metallic ( sage green sort of color )

dry brushed some white on the details

Think I may turn this one into a chalkboard................I took a lot of closeups because when I
try to get the whole thing you can't see the details..................

So Mr. Ex - let's say this frame was worth 50.00 in the state it was in - unless I can get 116,950.00
dollars for this baby - that's what you owe me now.................
You can pay me in 3 easy payments for your convenience.
Then and only then can we discuss my doing a piece of furniture for you!

LOL - as Forrest Gump would say
" sometimes there just aren't enough rocks "

:)

Wasn't that a party?????

  2. I love it! I think it takes creative nerve to do something like this with all the different coats of paint. You rocked it!

Some exes are so difficult to figure out, huh? I've been there too. :-)

  4. Love the mirror and what you did with the paint! Some of my favorite paintings are where I was not careful with the paint. Looks wonderful!

Would love it if you linked this up to the All Star Block Party!

  5. Love, Love this post. As I was reading, I was thinking I sure hope she doesn't refindish that piece for him. I sure hope you figured in interest on that debt. If not, I would suggest about 50% interest would be about right.
    Love the frame1. Hugs, Ginger

  8. Beautiful mirror...don't be sitting around waiting for the check...but maybe if you take the furniture from him under the pretense of refinishing it, and then SELL it - Wouldn't that be fun?

  9. Nice frame -- horrible ex. There are a couple in my past, too. I think SAvannah Granny had a point -- hit him up for interest, too.

  12. I m returning your visit from my Chalkboard Countess post. I cannot believe we have not met before! I started with a piece of gold plastic junk, but your frame is simply gorgeous. It is funny how they turned out similar. I am now both a Google and a Linky follower so we won't miss again.

  15. ha ha that's terrific! My mom is still collecting back child support on my brother. He's 32. She gets a check for $5 or so every month.

I think I'd rather have the mirror ;)

  16. Love, love, love all the patina that you painted in! It got to be such a hassle trying to get a monthly check from the ex that when his lawyer offered a lump sum (much less that the payments would have been) I took it just for the piece of mind. As Forrest Gump would say "One less thing to worry about". I saw your post over at the blog party @ "In the Old Road" and associated blogs.

  19. The frame is beautiful, but I was in the same position as you. It is amazing what those ex's will do. I don't get what they think. I love your sense of humor. I was wondering if you would link it in my Wednesdays Adorned From Above Blog Hop. Here is the link:

  21. It does have a unique shape to it! You don't often find an oval frame that narrow.

  26. I love your way with phrases.....so funny and so appropriate. We just watched Forrest this weekend and there really are a lot of great lines in that movie. I think that mirror turned out fantastic and I can only imagine the words that were flowing as you "slapped" on some white paint =0)
