Jessica is in the midst of hormonal-can't-make-a-decision-if-her-life-depended-on-it mode.
Michael is all over the board - loves color - and has found a new passion in finding old pieces that he would love to see restored.
Enter one such piece - now gracing my entry way - awaiting a makeover for their kitchen.
It really is a spectacular pc - so here we go -
Jessica wants white ( ascp old white - )
Michael would like Duck Egg blue ( probably my favorite ASCP color by the way )
They both agree that they would like it heavily distressed.
What do they do?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated - especially by both their parents who Michael keeps harassing for advice, lol
For what it's worth - I always feel when in doubt stick with white -
HOWEVER - there is a compromise here - I could mix Duck egg blue and old white together half and half and come up with a much lighter version of that gorgeous color.
Or paint the whole piece white - and the back Duck Egg blue -
HELP - ( please ) they're far too young to be going through this kind of turmoil over a buffet/hutch

What about painting the backing board duck egg blue and the rest white? Compromise and if they wanted to change it either way - they would be halfway (almost) there!

I agree, the back blue and the rest white but I'd work some of the blue into the crevices so it looks like the blue is popping through the white. I would also back the door centers blue. And distress it.

ReplyDeleteWhat are the other colors in their kitchen? If they will be displaying white/cream dishes then the blue will be great. Using a color will somewhat limit the rest of the color scheme.
I am about the worst person to ask as I have the same dilemma. Not sure what to paint my dining room hutch.

No one ever has to ask twice for my opinion! First thing that popped in my mind was the same as most above. I would do the back in blue and do everything else in the white. All distressed and waxed - it's going to be gorgeous and certainly a statement piece in the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteYou are going to have fun with this one! If they are going to have this piece for a long time and have no intentions of getting redone in the future, I would go with white, because they might not always like blue, or it might not always go with their decor.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Peggy and Holly, white cabinet & blue backboard.. I however painted my china cabinet Provence outside and Old White interior but I knew that I wanted to bring in some great blue into the space... If interested there are pictures of it on my blog.. - Susan

ReplyDeleteWhite with a blue backboard. And maybe some blue here and there under the white so when you distress it, the blue will show a bit. Can't wait to see how it turns out.

ReplyDeleteI would do it white, because 1. It will look more vintagey and cute and 2. It will be SO much easier to match colors with. My friend did something like that to her kitchen hutch actually. ReplyDeleteBefore I read the other comments, I thought blue for the back wall and white on the rest. A few years down the road, you can paint the back wall in whatever accent colour they are hot on. ~ Maureen

ReplyDeleteI haven't read the other responses...what are the other colors in the kitchen? That would have a bearing on my opinion but I gravitate toward the blue 'cause I LOVE color! I think white is beautiful but it seems to be overdone a lot these days. Just my 2cents here you know! :-)

My vote is for a white exterior because it is classic and timeless...the interior of the piece could be the duck egg blue. It will be much easier to change the interior paint colour should the kitchen change in the future!

ReplyDeleteHow about old white over duck egg blue so that you see the blue where it's distressed? I rub candle wax on the edges I want to distress so that it rubs back easily to the underneath colour and not the wood.
