A little bit of Magic..............

Morning all !!!

Last week I showed you my antique Farmhouse Table -

Now look at it very closely and tell me if you can see where I could add to that!!!
Knowing my kitchen is extremely tiny and space is at a premium................
Did you guess?  Here's another look - a close up - can you tell where I'm going now?

Well I can plainly see that  there's extra SPACE down there - that's a no-no when every square foot counts for desperately needed storage..................

Suzan says - John there's some space at the bottom of the table for storage
John says- Don't start cramming things down there Suzan - PLEASE - it's going to look awful
Suzan says - Well I don't want to put things on the floor
John says - Ok good - because it'll look crowded and messy
Suzan says - exactly - BUT we could build a shelf to place on the bottom of it................
John says - Well that'll look ridiculous - this is an antique - you're going to take away the value
John says - I don't want to start hammering and nailing into this piece
Suzan says - but it wouldn't take any nails or hammering or anything at all
John says - is it just going to magically float there?
Suzan says - yes actually - that's exactly what it'll do
John says - I'm NOT A CARPENTER..................
Suzan sasy - you built a bench in the Spring - you can surely make a shelf!!!!

Here's the bench he made - using pallet wood

wouldn't you say he's a carpenter?

John says - You always have to go one step too far - ALWAYS................

But he cut the wood for me exactly to my specifications

and guess what?
it's magically floating - no nails - no hammering..................

I gave it a quick coat of white paint and abracadabra - more storage

Look at all that storage - you might as well have given me a new kitchen - I'm so thrilled with this!!!

Sometimes it takes so little to make me happy - sometimes.

Have a great day all -

  2. Very clever! It is a pretty rustic looking shelf so it certainly does not detract from the beauty of the antique. I am sure John is very proud of himself!

  16. I thought that is where you were going. It is a great idea and does make perfect sense. Now, tell John he did such a great job and he is a carpenter. Maybe this will lead him to do bigger and better pieces and jobs for you !!! If he reads your blog at all he must think I am such a brat, LOL!!!!!

  24. John's a real stick-in-the-mud! Actually I don't know that for sure, I just wanted to say that phrase. It's such a great phrase. The shelf is exactly as I would have done it. It is wonderful!

  27. I forgot to mention the "ALWAYS" phrase. Bob and John have got to be twins, although Bob is probably twice John's age. I am playing a game with Bob now. The dining table is stacked high with dinnerware.I want to convert the coat closet to built in shelving for excess china. Who needs a coat closet in Savannah. We have to take advantage of storage when we see it.
Your shelf looks great and it is a new vignette area. xo

  30. Oh your posts make me chuckle every time! Your conversations with Hubby sound so much like ours. The shelf looks great and I can relate to looking at every square inch of space for it's storage-ability.
