and here's the room that's inspiring those dreams - I'm sure in it's day that ceiling ( wallpapered between the beams ) was nice - but those days are gone and it's time to move one :)
The beams would stay dark by the way - and although I'd like it mostly white - I don't see this room completely white at all...................

One of my readers thought I was upset with her because I haven't replied to any comments -
OH NO - I JUST KNEW THIS WOULD HAPPEN
PLEASE know that I read them all - and I try to reply - I'm just so completely overwhelmed right now
with everything that's going on.....................

AND THEN ON TOP OF IT ALL I HAVE THIS TO CONTEND WITH

Suzan says - I need to pack up the book cases
John says - Why?  The movers will just take them as is
Suzan says - You've got to be kidding me, right?
John says - Well I'm not disassembling them, that's for sure
Suzan says - I NEED TO PACK UP THE BOOKS THAT ARE ON THE BOOKCASES!!!!!
John says - Oh, why didn't you say that then?

My fault I suppose - for not being clear

Suzan says - Do you think you can pick up some boxes so I can get started
John says - Sure..................

And he comes home with this size........................you can't tell from the photo so much but these boxes are almost as tall as I am

My fault I suppose - for not being clear

Suzan says - those boxes are too tall - the bottoms will give away - and they'll be too heavy to lift
John says - those boxes are perfect - we can fit a ton in each of them
Suzan says - please don't make me waste time proving myself again - they'll be too heavy to lift
Suzan says - we need something a little smaller

And he brings me home a ton of these..................

which fit approximately 5 books ( to let you know the scale - 2 tins of Annie Sloan paint would fit in them and that's it )

My fault I suppose - for not being clear

Suzan says - Do you think you could pick up another 10,000 of those boxes
John says - What are you talking about?
Suzan says - Well I can only fit 5 or 6 boxes in each one
John says - WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?
John says - FIRST THEY'RE TOO BIG - AND THEN THEY'RE TOO SMALL

My fault I suppose - for not being clear

Suzan says - Surely there's a size out there somewhere - in between 5 books and 500 books
John says - aw leave me alone Suzan - Hockey just started - why don't you go blog about it?

And that's exactly what I decided to do..................

Until he finds me the size that's just perfect.
Now I know exactly how Goldilocks felt....................

( maybe I should just go to a moving warehouse and buy the proper sized boxes? well isn't that the strangest concept lol?  I come from a world where buying boxes is almost as insane as buying brand new furniture )

  1. You and John are so funny.... You can also get boxes at Home Depot and if you are having a mover they will furnish boxes and they will pack everything for you. Or do you have to pack everything and then they are just moving you? Be sure to get insurance for breakage and stolen items. Did you get your house you wanted?
Don't over do or your back will go out. Have a sunny Fall weekend.

  2. My kitchen/dining must be white I loved them all. Oh how I remember the box deliema my last move I was dreaming of the perfect box lol. I'd love to move but the actual move puts me off (and money lol)

  3. Beer case sized boxes are perfect for books. You can get just enough in so that you can still manage to lift the box. Giant boxes are good for pillows, blankets, sheets and other stuff like that. When I moved across country I allowed the moving company to pack my breakables just so they would be insured. The rest of the stuff I packed myself. Sometimes the moving company has used boxes in their warehouse...or so they told me. I only managed to find 10 boxes when I went to the warehouse. I bought the rest of mine from U-Haul.

  4. LOL- Two, or maybe three, moves ago I did just that. I BOUGHT boxes. They were just the perfect size, I could label them properly and they stacked beautifully. We collapsed them and saved them because they are extra sturdy. We have used them twice since to move and let the kids use them, too.

I think you have done a fine job on your blog of explaining why you aren't replying to comments. You mention it all the time. We come here just cuz we love ya-no reply needed for me! But later.....when you are all caught up.............well......you know! xo Diana

  5. I packed up books in boxes like half as your tall ones and I couldn't lift them up... so you'd better find the perfect size. Hugs, Cristina

  6. You better get drinking more beer so you can finish the packing.

If you ever see chairs like in photo 9 on your travels, I am looking for a set of white french style Shabby Chic chairs.

I would love to have white floors but somehow in my 1979 builder home, they just don't go.

  7. Love the dining rooms. Makes me want to go redo mine right now! Good luck in finding the right size of boxes!

  8. These dining rooms are gorgeous! And the white floors!!! My husband would kill me if I painted the floor. Maybe I could have a major paint spill... oops ;-)
    Have fun packing.

  9. I love the dining room with the huge all wood table in it! When we renovated our kitchen I bought boxes from a moving place and they were the right size. They also sell sheets of packing paper all rolled up. Great stuff. Have fun packing your books 5 at a time. :/

  10. On thing I love about all these images is that the windows have very bare to no window treatments. The windows in your new place has gorgeous windows too. I think if you can leave the windows as minimal as possible a white diningroom becomes "gorgeous" with that added feature. This will be a fabulous room....FABULOUS.

  11. LOLOL, fill the big ones and use a dolly to move them. :) Or get the right sized boxes... which you should pay for NEVER. ;)

And don't forget the padding to pack those disassembled bookshelves, hahahaha. Sorry, I had to say it. :) It's all in jest though, you know I think you and your husband are an awesome team. :) :) :)

  12. Where we live, we have stores that sell boxes! It's a big business! lol It looks like you need all different sizes. I read your 'conversations' out loud to my hubby now. We think they sound familiar! hahahaha! Sweet hugs....to you both!

  13. LOVE the fabulous farm tables in all these photos!! So much inspiration. And of course you had me LMHO about the boxes for books. :-))

  14. Yep the wallpapered ceiling needs to go! Wow, I can't even imagine hanging it up there; doing walls was hard enough! It sure will be beautiful when you're done with it. Love the tables and chandeliers in those photos.
Good luck getting the right sized boxes. You should pack one of the big ones just so John can see how bad it would be...too much work though that you'd have to redo. Lol
    Hugs,
    Cecilia

  15. I think John may be on to something.... don't pack anything. Just tape the bookcase with the books still in it. The dressers with the drawers still full. The hutch with all your tchotskes still within. The movers won't care; they'll like it! It's on the same principle of moving a fully decorated Christmas tree to the basement. It's all ready for the next season!

  16. I love all the white rooms that you have been featuring this week! I think if I lived up north I would want a lot of white too because it is cold and so dark in the winters, and it gives light. I have quite a bit of white because it is hot, but I live in the desert, so I warm it up with the vernacular. My porch is my whitest room, besides my daughter's, and I really like how it feels on warm days.

I did leave clothes in the drawers, because the mover said we could. We packed and packed boxes and boxes of books; I don't think there is an easy way to deal with it. I am hoping the move will be all over soon for you.

  17. Love, love, love the white rooms and great farmhouse tables.

On this one, I have to hope that John is toying with you or wants to make sure he knows you have something to blog about. He has to find the Mama Bear boxes for you.

Do his friends know about the John says, Suzan says posts?

  18. I get my boxes from the liquor store...where they are just right!

  19. It's so hard to find boxes anywhere nowadays - even the liquor stores and discount grocery stores don't allow them. Gone are the days of filling up the car with "free" boxes - at least in our area. I hated buying "new" boxes too when we moved. But it had to be done.

  20. Suzan very pretty pictures. I was laughing pretty hard with this one. Maybe you should make a diagram for John and he will grasp what you want for the books, LOL. He goes from one extreme to the other, seriously, this is going to be a looooooooooooonnnnnnnnggggg moving experience for you!!!!

  24. I normally find myself using darker colors as my husband prefers them. However, whenever I see white decor I have the desire to rebel and do some white decor! Stopping by from social media roundup.

  25. Beautiful dining rooms! Packing boxes is my least favorite thing about moving. Hopefully, you can get some free boxes from the grocery store in all different sizes.

  26. Oh Suzan, I have a ton of boxes that are 'Just Right.' I did order them from ULine and now we're not using them after all. They are big enough to hold as many books as I can possibly carry without killing my back. They'd be perfect.

LOVE all the white. How I wish Kevin would change his mind about painting the kitchen cupboards white. He's death against it. I think it would really perk things up!

  27. Love the banter! The dining rooms are all so beautiful. I especially like the one with the fireplace and the bright quilted tablecloth.

  28. Such gorgeous white inspiration! I can't wait to see what you decide to do. Hope you finally get some boxes, (right size). Don't pay a penny! Early mornings at the grocery can yield everything you want for free! Loved the post.

  31. Good Morning Suzan, Well I have to tell you, I knew what you meant when you said you had to pack the bookcases..... I knew you meant the contents. I had to laugh when I saw the size of the boxes you were presented with. I remember as a young married woman, when I experienced my first move, I had loads of books to pack..... in my innocence I packed about 100 books in each box and when George came home he told me that I had packed too many books in one box, I told him no, it was alright, he said try and lift them, which I tried to do, and of course I had packed too many in one box.....don't you just hate it when they are right. In my defence, it was my first move and I was very young. But in this instance I am pleased to say you are right.
    Happy box hunting.
    Best Wishes
    Daphne

  32. Suzan,
You and John crack me up. At least your are keeping a sense of humor with all the packing and stress of getting ready to move!!!! Love all the white rooms. Right up my alley. Good luck with all the packing.

  33. Just buy the boxes. Some places let you return them and give you some $ back.

  34. So first I drooled over the keyboard looking at the dining-room and then I spat at the screen laughing at your conversation. No wonder I'm late reading more than 100 mails piling in my inbox with all the computer cleaning you force me to do!

  35. A liquor store always has the best moving boxes....just sayin.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Every Monday the liquor store stacks boxes in the back so the people who will not buy boxes can pick them up to use. I agree with all of the above - they are sturdy and just the right size. Get drinking, Suzan - soon you will have enough boxes.

  37. Suzan, I always laugh at your conversations with John. You guys should have a stand-up comedy act! Isn't moving sooo much fun?
