Black Windows.................

I LOVE THEM - especially against an all white background
and although I know  "the best laid plans of mice and men oft go astray"
I can guarantee you my new kitchen will have a black window.

I painted the living room window in the house we're leaving

A little while after I had finished John made window grids out of " molding " so it ended up like this
( I always meant to spray paint the grid and never got around to it )  I was SO proud of him
I always meant to spray paint them black - but never got around to it :(

But I DID get around to painting the french doors in the entrance way black as well - ( although there again I never got around to painting the transom above LOL )

Anyway, you just know these windows will be painted black, right?  Along with the door
( and for WLU - Wood Lovers United - the front door is NOT wood - it's a composite material made to look like wood - which in my world is the worst kind of wood )

The black window may be the first thing I go shopping for !!!

And I'm really really loving this one ( have no idea how much it costs - but really love it ) of course it would have to be in black - love the hardware - and the fact that there's no bar in the middle.
It would suit the style AND age of our new home perfectly!

There's something so European about it, n'est pas?
Especially paired with WHITE

Moving in 4 days everyone :)

Can you believe this?
I mean, really, can you believe this?
BECAUSE.
I.
SIMPLY.
CANNOT.

Lots and lots of last minute stuff to do today - being the last weekend here and all :)

  2. I have noticed that trend in decorating and I must say I like it in an all white room. There is something very European about it isn't there. I can see the difference in the living room window in your currant house and like it. The windows in your 'new' sunroom will look nice in black too. Only 4 more days? Wow! You must be feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. So much to do and Christmas coming!!! Just take one day at a time and get your tree up first. LOL Hugs.

  17. The trend of black windows seems to have come about in the past 6 months or so - a great contrast in the white or light kitchens. When I see the pictures my eyes head straight for the outdoors. Do like the trim John did for your window. Was wondering how to do that without cracking the glass? It's a weird and wonderful thing how we see things differently in different rooms in our own homes. You showed us the french doors you like with just the plain glass and no trim (mullions?) and then turn around and like the trim (mullions?) for your new kitchen window. And why not?
FOUR DAYS? holy moley! Wanted to say that tears are OK for when you say good bye to your old place. It is truly beautiful and everything you wanted and then some. You're moving onward and upward to a new era in your life and the new place will be just as wonderful in an entirely different way.
I wish London were closer to Montreal - I can still paint and unpack and do all kinds of things - just now I need a stool or chair to sit on to do it.
Remember, we all know where you are and you will get back to us when you can - we'll all still be here when you get back. Just a single photo now and then would be a good thing - befores and afters.
All the best and take care of both you and John. Don't overdo it! Now I sound like your mother.

P.S. Hey, where's the picture of the new haircut? That is a definite must see for all of us!

  18. I like the black windows; especially the ones that open vertically into the room. We saw many of those kind of windows in Montreal and Quebec. They all had oval knobs that i just loved. They looked so European. Very cool. Good luck with your move.

  20. The ones I am familiar with are custom, steal casement windows, and they are single paned. You will have to share your source when you do it! Unfortunately, I had to take out 70 years old, steel, casement windows, because they no longer opened. :( I kept the one in the kitchen for nostalgic reasons. In fact, I tried to paint it black before remodeling the kitchen, but it didn't look right, because it had been painted too many times before.

  21. The black windows are fabulous, and I think they alone will make a huge difference in your room. I desperately wanted to paint the french doors in my bedroom black, but Hubby could not see it :( I know it would look amazing, just as your surely will!

  33. Black windows, and even doors, are so awesome especially when you have a white wall. It's nice to see your window panes in black. I'm sure John did his very best to end up with this fascinating window. Hehe! I do hope you'll enjoy your place in the days to come. :)

  34. Lovely photos. Marvin & Pella are making the Casement windows w/out the center bar right now.

Something I noticed in most of the kitchen photos I am going to definitely do, is to make my countertop window height. I like the idea of the counter going into the window as a sill. Easier to clean up, a bit more smooth to the eye, and a bit more counter space! Easier to clean behind the fixtures, too. :)

These are absolutely beautiful. Finish painting, girl! Your home is gorgeous. A friend calls these last tidbits of unfinished projects "Broken Teeth." Because once you do them, everything loos SO good, you wonder why you didn't have that tooth fixed years ago.

  35. Who wouldn't love those elegant black windows, Suzan? Your inspirations convinced us that black windows are superb! Bet you redesigned your windows and painted them black. Did you post an update about this? Mind if you direct me to that post? Thanks! :)
