We decided yesterday to go for a drive - and then a walk - around the new neighborhood -
It's quite charming really - no 2 homes are alike - and most are tiny - like doll houses ( with a few larger ones thrown in here and there ) I feel like the Harper Valley P.T.A. Mom moving into June Cleaver's territory to be honest with you - this sweet little area won't know what hit it LMHO
It's a very mature neighborhood - the homes are older - the trees are very old - it's very " leafy " and pretty
and charming and OMG I think it's boring....................lol - tres boring.
Anyway I have to tell you something funny - Montreal is known for their food - all kinds of food - I think it's safe to say for a long time it was the restaurant capitol of Canada ( Toronto and Vancouver can most definitely fit in that category today ) and any time ex pats come back for a visit they usually are dying for Montreal food - often that includes foods from greasy diners..................
So on the way back today -
Suzan says - I'm dying for a club sandwich and fries
John says - Ok - I could go for that
Suzan says - as we order - I'm going to miss this
John says - They have diners all over the West Island ( the area we're moving to )
John says - The West Island is on the Island of Montreal
John says - You're carrying this too far now - it took us 10 minutes to get back into the city today
BWAAAAHHHHHH - I'm peeing my pants here
Suzan says - I feel like we're going to be ex - pats LMHO
Then we went to Home Depot - to check out some kitchen cabinetry - I kind of found something I like
( Oh - by the way - I'm not installing any upper cabinets - only lower and shelves - and I have the top of a wall unit - with long glass doors that we'll be installing some way )
Here's the cabinets - they look kind of boring - but trust me they're really nice lol
The counter top isn't too shabby either - although I think we're going with white marble instead
but love the sink - it's one of those very deep ones.......................
And we picked a floor - it's the only thing we both agreed on completely really -
It's an engineered click on floor - and it's vinyl - but it looks exactly like driftwood -
and it's the one - it's most definitely THE one.
Is that the perfect color?
My Son and Son in law will be taking care of the kitchen - this will be the first time we're not hiring anyone to do renovations - fingers are crossed - they'll come in the weekend after we move to do the demo and the weekend after that to assemble.................hopefully in the course of the week in between we'll be able to have the window replaced in the kitchen - and 2 shorter ones installed - above the counter that will be going across the room - I'm going to be kind and say that back in the day people didn't put much thought into kitchens as a general rule - but this one in particular has the oddest placement for the stove, don't you think?
I feel the fridge should be there - up against the wall?
The drop ceiling will be torn down too - with something like this installed directly onto the ceiling instead
I'm loving this particular one actually - it's not overly silver or white - just looks perfectly aged to me

Oh - I just went back to look at the photos I took lol - the downstairs bathroom -
That tub and shower doors are getting outta there!!!!!!!!
Perhaps something like this - which is surprisingly affordable - and I don't think it's necessary to have a bathtub on the ground floor at all
and I think I may use this as the vanity ( which I was supposed to sell but decided to keep )
It has a glass top - so we'd just need to drill a hole for plumbing and we're set to go - I think I have to keep it silver because this one has already been painted far too many times already and another coat of paint will make the bathroom smaller than it already is lol- you can see it's revolution here - Once - Twice - Three times a lady
Leaning towards this for the floor - first choice

However it may be totally necessary to have this in the upstairs bathroom ( next year ) again surprisingly affordable
Now I'm done - I covered our walk through the new 'hood -
I've covered our wish list from Home Depot -
And our craving for completely-terrible-for-you junk food
That was our day -
How come junk food looks so incredible when you're hungry and absolutely disgusting once you're full?
Have a wonderful Monday everyone
( Oh and is anyone else as excited as I am that Wally Lamb has a new book out? - Now if only I had time to read it !!! )
Good Morning Suzan, This is so very exciting for you, planning your new home, buying the bits and bobs to make it yours and isn't it fabulous that your son and son in law are going to install your new kitchen. Yes you are right, the placement of the cooker was really odd, but I wondered if it was placed by the window for ventilation, so that when the homeowner was cooking up a storm, the steam would go out of the window.
ReplyDeleteHow funny is it, that junk food tastes fabulous when we are hungry, but afterwards, I always feel so full and I end up having to drink loads of water because I am so thirsty.
It is so lovely seeing how you are reworking your new home.
Best Wishes to you.
Daphne
Believe it or not, those are the exact floor tiles I've chosen for our bathroom! Love all your choices!
ReplyDeleteSometimes we need a little junk food. It's good for the psyche. Not so much for the stomach!
ReplyDeleteLove your new neighbourhood. It looks like it's got so much charm, unlike those new cookie cutter areas where every home looks like the next.
I'm on the waiting list for the Wally Lamb book at the library. Can't wait to get my hands on it. I love your neighborhood. Not boring at all and I do have to agree about the stove. What were they thinking. That would have put me off cooking for the rest of my life. Can't wait to see all of your wonderful changes. xo Laura
ReplyDeleteI didn;t know Wally Lamb had a new book...must search that out.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of no upper cabinets. As far as the flooring for the bathroom, I have the basketweave and the pattern makes the grout hard to clean. I wish I had gone for a simpler hex tile.
Did you meet any of the neighbors?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the after photos. The kitchen is quite, um, interesting, right now!
Excited about all the updates you're planning for the new house. I bet its going to look gorgeous when its all done! I love your style and what you have picked out so far is perfect! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI love the houses in your new 'hood, Suzan! They are so picturesque - sigh of envy...
ReplyDeleteAnd I love your choices and can't wait to see the transformations! You're right, the stove doesn't belong in that corner...weird! I'm drooling over your ceiling tiles...just wow! Again, I can't wait ( bet you can't either).
Hugs
C
beautiful old house in your new "hood", I love the stone one, what ever you choose your home will be a show piece, this I know for sure, you're right about the junk food so good when hungry but so "not" when you finished!
ReplyDeleteSuzan,
ReplyDeleteLove your new "Hood" all the houses are so charming. I just have such a good feeling for you. This is going to be your best home ever. I know you will have that place so gorgeous. Love those ceiling tiles those are going to look incredible. Woooo Hooo can't wait for all the transformations to begin.
Kris
Suzan- I LOVE your new 'hood. It looks a lot like our Small Town America. My favorite kind of place to live. You will find some really wonderful people living around you, I bet. It looks like all the homes are well kept and that people are proud of their 'hood.
ReplyDeleteLOVE all your choices so far. Like the first bathroom floor better than the 2nd (as if you care-lol) House definitely needs shutters-you are right about that. Can't WAIT till you get in and moved. Oh, by the by, just from experience of rehabbing 14 houses-try to NOT put your fridge directly next to a wall- it makes opening the doors all the way almost impossible. You would be better off with a cabinet between fridge and wall....just a thought. Have a great Monday- I am off and running. Also, left you a note that you are coming thru as a No Reply blogger when leaving a comment. I KNOW how you hate that! xo Diana
Beautiful homes! I adore that neighbourhood!
ReplyDeleteLovely looking neighbourhood. I like everything you are showing but your grey floors are the best! This is so exciting.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it is going to be fun!!! Love the neighborhood. And that sandwich looks sooooo good! Can't wait to see it come together!
ReplyDeleteI hear ya on the stove. Six months ago I paid to have the electrical stuff relocated to swap locations between the stove and frig. Now my stove doesn't look like it's in a permanent 'time out' corner any more.
ReplyDeleteLike all your new ideas.
I love all of your choices! BTW, was that gravy on the fries? I used to live in upstate NY and every one always put gravy on their fries. I have not seen it since!
ReplyDeleteYou have so many wonderful ideas for your new home! And sometimes you just get hungry for some foods and nothing else will do! Enjoy your day my friend!
ReplyDeleteThe houses in your new neighbourhood are so cute. I love the porch details in the ninth one (I hope I counted correctly, but I'm blonde) and the bow window in the tenth!
ReplyDeleteI love those white cabinets you chose.
Suzan your neighborhood looks wonderful. Your choices so far are fabulous. I really like the idea of turning that piece into a vanity. You will lose center draw space but will have a considerable amount left. You are so right about junk food, the idea is so appealing but then regret sets in after your finished. John wants to know how I have such will power when it comes to that and I usually say because after I eat it I know I won't feel good so I just don't even think about the possibility of putting it in my mouth, He then follows it with you are such a smart @@@! LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteCynthia
I totally can't wait to see your transformation progress!! I am loving all of your choices... And, I could dive right into my computer screen for that "not so good for you" food!!! Yummo!
ReplyDeleteI love your new neighborhood...the houses are so charming and full of character. I agree with NanaDiana that it looks like small town America. Can't wait to follow along on this new journey...as you make your new house into the home of your dreams. And yes, I agree that the fridge should be were they have the stove.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week.
hugs,
Cindy
How fun! You will love that laminate flooring that looks like wood, my parents put t in their place last year and I kid you not it is like an optical iillusion it feels smooth but looking at it you would swear it was rough. It's really cool, I'd love it myself one day.
ReplyDeleteSo now everyone in the new neighborhood knows that you're the crazy lady that bought the house and is running around taking pictures of all of their homes!! LMBO Suzan!! Looks like you have some great plans for your home. Is your engineered floor AquaClick? That is killer stuff and I'm eyeing it myself. If it's not...maybe you should check it out....25 year warranty on that stuff. Totally crushing on that tub!
ReplyDeleteI think your new place is going to turn out just lovely! That bathroom wallpaper makes me laugh - I can't imagine the stress of getting it all on there just so!!
ReplyDeletelooking forward to enjoying the journey with you!

Such great choices... love it all!
ReplyDeleteI really like your new neighbourhood Suzan. I have the feeling you're going to shake it up a bit when you renovate your house and fix up the property. That's a good thing. I love the ideas you have found for some of the renovations. It's going to be exciting to see. The French fries look good but they aren't good for you. hehe.
ReplyDeleteWhat a quaint and charming neighborhood! I am so very excited to see the befores and afters of your new home! I love all the choices so far....:) Have fun!
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Vicky

I love everything you picked at Home Depot and your neighborhood is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLove your hood - all the houses look so well kept. Your going to love your new home and it will look terrific when you finish. Like all of your choices for the house.
ReplyDeleteHave a very productive week.
Mary
I vote tile #1. Very pretty and think if you put shutters on your house, it'll be just adorable. Oh, and if you are moving to Harper Valley...watch out for the drunk drivers, don't get impregnated by your boss and make sure your skirts are extra short when walking around.
ReplyDeleteEeeeeek!!!! I am SOOOOO stinkin' excited for you, Suzan!!! I can't believe that you sold your flat, bought your new house, and are all moved in already! WOW! Your ideas for your kitchen/bath are just fabulous, too. LOVE them all! You are going to make that sweet abode just rock, girl! ♥
ReplyDeletexoox laurie
I love that tub! Was that at home depot too? I love the cabinets as well for the kitchen. Can't wait to watch it all come together for you.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzan!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to the transformation of your new home!!!
Love that you'll use the dresser as a vanity and so happy you
won't be painting it!!! I've always loved it and the great color of
the paint that your chose!!
You're still close enough to Montreal that you won't have to stop
and have a pee break!! LOL Just think of all the family BBQ's you'll be
having and the POOL!!!! That bathtub looks amazing!!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!!
I'm so excited for you and John!! Look forward to some really great "He said, She said!!!
Have a great week!!!

I love the new hood and all the houses and I am expecting yours to stand out in the best possible way and be the showplace on the street.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you!! Your choices look amazing - can't wait to see the "after" shots!!
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Montreal junk food - it's "steamees" for me - warm buns, a steamed hot dog and cabbage slaw. My ex- inlaws live in the Eastern Townshi0s and we always had to get one when we visited. Miss those (and them too).
Your new hood looks so sweet and interesting. I can't wait to see the kitchen and bathroom transformation......I always knew that your house could be ANYTHING but boring suzan
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the vibe of your new 'hood! Lots of character, and old trees hold great appeal to me! I can't wait to see how you transform this new house. Love all the options you've shown, especially that celing! And I have always wanted to use a basket weave tile on my floor, but ran out of bathrooms to redo!
ReplyDeleteYour new neighborhood looks completely charming. I think you will love it once you get used to it. Love that ceiling you picked. It will all look terrific!
ReplyDeletethe new neighborhood is very charming, suzan:) love the tub and the ceiling tile you've chosen! can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteThe new neighborhood looks so pretty and quaint! Maybe you have been set there to liven things up! Have an open house and meet all the neighbors….after the kitchen is finished of course…..which will be beautiful! Love all your choices!
