One Sexy Window !!!

Bonjour - Hi !!!
( I'll let you know next week - if I remember - why I'm choosing to open my posts with those words)

I really had to think about the day today - is it Friday already?

Where did the week go?  I mean I know time flies when you're having fun - what you don't realize when you're younger is that it flies even when you're NOT having fun - it just flies for the sake of flying I guess..............You wake up and it's Monday morning - and later that day you yawn and look at the clock and it's Friday night.

What do you think of the window?

The window was an extravagance - quite pricey ( I'm choking as I type this ) and on top of that they wanted another 450.00 dollars to paint it black - fuggedaboudit I told them - I paint - I'll do it myself - but now I'm torn - if I paint the window black you won't see that gorgeous hardware !!!

which is why I paid 4 million dollars for it in the first place................

Help - throw me a bone people !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  What do I do here?

I love black windows - I want black windows in the kitchen - the whole design was built around having black windows

source
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHICH DISNEY CHARACTER THIS RESEMBLES?
LOOK CAREFULLY - THE SCREWS ARE THE EYE AND THE KNOB IS IS THE NOSE
I CAN'T PLACE IT AND IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS LMHO

Can windows be sexy?
Because if they can be - I think this is the sexiest window out there !!!

How much is that doggie in the window?

God - she needs to be groomed - note to self - call the groomer - she just came in from outside lol - look at her hair - it's normally on top of her head not hanging down like that.  Poor little neglected thing.

God - I need to be groomed - note to self - call the hairdresser

So guys - what do I do?
I haven't got a clue here - and I'm torn

that's why I'm leavin' it all up to you............you decide what you're I'm gonna do
now do you want my love................or are we through?

if you're too young to remember that song - just be grateful

HELP !!!
( please - time's a wastin' !!! )

3 songs - just because I don't think I gave you any this week at all

If you're too young to have seen this movie - SEE IT - what a great one ( I walk the line )

It's not too late to enter the contest - and become one of Abby's Angels -

You just have to click HERE and leave me a comment - that's it - that's all !

John says - WHY IS ALL THE PROTECTIVE WRAPPING OFF THE WINDOW???????????
Suzan says - Because I need advice so I'm putting it out there in Bloglandia
John says - You'd better pray it doesn't fall Suzan - are you crazy?
Suzan says - I had to unwrap it for the particular advice I need
John says - I notice you didn't ask me...............
Suzan says - Ok - should I still paint it black or leave it white?
John says - Well you won't listen to me anyway so why ask?
John says - If it breaks will your blog buddies pay to replace it?

Have a great weekend all
(I assured him that of course if it broke you all would be more than happy to chip in and replace it lol)

Much love,

Partying here !

  1. I am actually in Florida trying to find black windows for an addition we plan to build. So I am biased because I am obsessed with black windows. Paint it black and add a little brass paint to the hardware to make it stand out against the black frame. Just a smidge of brass...rubbed on to distress the metal.

  2. I vote for leaving it white (for now) and being able to see the beautiful black hardware - once it's in for awhile, revisit it and see if it does need to be painted ... my opinion only - ha ha

  3. That window is gorgeous! I'm with you...torn. I love your idea of having a black window, but that hardware is gorgeous. I'm not sure if it's a Disney character or some other cartoon character...but I'm feeling your pain. Seems like it doesn't talk...just makes gibberish noises.

I sure hope someone figures it out for us.

  4. stick to your first instinct and paint it black-love dee x

  5. The hardware is beautiful and gives the window so much charm so I think I'd leave it white. It's so pretty!

  6. Oh- What a decision. I LOVE the hardware and would hate to see it get "lost" in the process of painting it. Can you install it first and then paint it if you don't like it white? I LOVE the idea of the black window though.
How about painting the whole thing black and then hitting the edges of the hardware with a bit of silver to match all your industrial pieces there?
What does John say (as if you care).....lol
Now I have lots of music running through my head for the day- darn you!

  7. I forgot Phoenix and Witherspoon did a movie together!

I like the window white with the black hardware. I have faith in you for making the right decision though, your stuff always turns out gorgeous.

  8. I live by this motto: "If you don't know, it's a no go" it's never failed me yet! Are you thinking of Chip from Beauty and the Beast? They do kind of resemble! Good luck!

    1. Nope it's definitely not Chip lol -
Good Motto - wish I could live by it !!!!!!!

  9. I have no idea how to solve your window dilemma. I do know why you started with Bonjour and it makes me furious. I actually thought of you when I heard (what you are talking about) on the news.

  10. I, too, like black window frames. But this is too beautiful as it is. And, I don't think the knob looks like Chip. It must be some other Disney character. Maybe something from Cinderella? Have a great weekend and don't let anything break. ;) Linda@Wetcreek Museum blog

  11. I kept thinking I was forgetting something this morning. Just realized what it is. You asked what kind of Disney character the hardware reminded you of. I think it is the "coffeepot"? in Beauty and the Beast. I am pretty sure it is from that movie....or it might remind you of one of the cards from Alice In Wonderland. Just my thoughts-

  12. Let it white! Hugs, Cristina

  13. I agree with you - that is a tough decision. But you make fabulous choices.

I am old enough to remember Olivia Newton-John's song. I am not grateful.

Soda is so cute! But I sympathize with the long-haired-dog problems in the snow.

  14. Gorgeous window! I think you should leave it just the way it is!! I am old enough to remember the original version of the song by Dale and Grace (sigh) and I work in retail and utter the words" Bonjour- Hi!" on a daily basis. I'm such a rebel!!

We love our house here, we pay our taxes, and our 3 sons still live here. Its freaking crazy! I'll look up the blog, thanks, and HANG IN THERE!!! haha xoxox

  15. Don't paint it!!! Don't paint the hardware either! It's gorgeous! It will look perfect when it is installed, because the hardware is black. The hardware is perfect and it compliments the small antique window you left.

Is it the Candlestick character? Luminiere

  16. I say go for the black Suzan, it's gonna be worth the investment in the end for sure!!!!! As for the Disney Character, not sure really. :-)

  17. Leave it white for awhile. man do I remember that song - used to sing it ALL THE TIME. I think it reminds me of the character in Beauty and the Beast - the butler or whatever he was before "the change"

  18. I am glad that's not my decision to make (I am no help at all) Sorry. It is truly a gorgeous window. I saw on the news about the woman being forced to change her Facebook page to French???? I can't believe the Government has that much control. I was wondering how you feel about the situation?

    ReplyDelete
  19. DO NOT paint that window black. Put it in and live with it white for a while. You can always paint it later if you hate it. (Sending you an email with the balance of my comment!)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Paint the inner frame black, leave the outer frame white. The interior black will set up the black hardware beautifully and voila, you will have your "black" window look without making the hardware disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I luv-uh-uh-uv the window as it is . That is one sexy, beautiful window with that gorgeous black hardware. Dis you think of leaving this white and putting black molding around it? It does look like a character from Beauty and The Beast. Please get Soda a grooming before she looks like a street urchin.

  22. I like Jan's idea. Gives you the best of both. My initial thought was paint the window black and the hardware white...but I'm just not sure it would have the same 'wow' factor done that way. Either leave it alone - or go with Jan's idea.

    1. I think it's going in the way it is - and we'll wait until I get brave enough to do anything- but I'm thinking Razmataz hit it - bronzing up the hardware may do the trick
( and by the way they offered it in brushed bronze and I said - No, thank you lol )

  23. So beautiful, a little piece of Paris. I am jealous over this one. What charm this is going to add. I personally would leave it but your the expert. You may not want to think about crossing the boarder. Things aren't so great here either. The President is making the US unrecognizable for most of us. Truly sad for us right now.

  30. Oh boy! The hardware is really nice and I know it won't show on the black should you paint it. Is the other original window that you kept black now? I forget. Oh dear. It looks so nice like this. Good luck with your decision.

  31. Possibly the candlestick in Beauty and the Beast? Any way LOVE your window! I would leave it white...I know you want it black but it is just beautiful as it is! Do you mind me asking what manufacturer...we are replacing windows for our kitchen and this is gorgeous!

  38. Oh Suz......don't paint it! The black makes it coordinate with the other window and to lose that unique, wonderful, it's-making-me-drool-with-envy hardware would cause the vapors in a lot of our homes!
The character you're thinking of - the door knob from Alice in Wonderland. Maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Suzan darling...why don't you paint it black and leave the hardware outlined in a narrow white line? You can have the best of both worlds..black window and highlight the gorgeous hardware.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wow Suzan this is a tough one. The hardware is great but I think you should paint it since that is what you had in mind with this pretty window. Go with your gut on this one. Big help right?!!! Which ever way you go it will be great.

  41. Maybe use some black tape to frame the window to see what it looks like before you paint it.

  42. Gorgeous window, and I am sure whatever you decide it will look amazing. I saw a fantastic kitchen at styleathome.com which reminded me so much of your wonderful kitchen. It had black windows, marble counters and the tall metal shelving, but theirs was painted black, not galvanized, and a checkered floor. Your kitchen is going to be absolutely beautiful!!!!

  43. Oh wow it is stunning. I agree with everyone who said don't pait it put it in and live with it for a little while.

I think the Disney character is Limoeur? the candelabra from Beauty & the Beast or the doorknob from Alice in Wonderland

  44. Hi Suzan!!!!

The Disney character that looks like the piece on your window is the door knob in Alice In Wonderland. I've sent you an email of the picture of the character.

I love the new window. I'd put it up and let it grow on you as to what you want to do. I would do it two toned. It would look great!!

    Have a great weekend!!

  45. Bonjour, Hi, Kalimera, Buongiorno, etc..!!!

We might as well greet everyone in the province in ALL the languages of ALL the different nationalities that reside in this ONE province, called Quebec! How ludicrous! COMMENT RIDICULE!! (In caps, to make sure they heard it!). And since we're speaking en français, I think your handle is the spitting image of Lumière of Beauty and the Beast!

Please don't paint this gorgeous window black, for if you do, your mother will say...(remember THAT, from 'Down by the Bay'? For if you do, then, kudos to you for actually remembering it!). Ahem...for if you do, you will a) lose that beautiful black patina on the handle, b) be out a couple of hundred bucks, for doing so, and c) really feel black when you realize you've made a mistake. Not sexy, at all.

Hope you do the right thing. Time may be awastin', but your pocket book doesn't have to!

  46. Bonjour,

I'm sorry to read the post that late... I decided to go to bed yesterday evening rather than reading the 103 mails waiting for me!
The window is gorgeous and even sexier than my own window!
Now, about the colour: I love the white with the black "cremone" (ni idea how it's called in English- too lazy to check). But I also thought (and John is going to hate me there) that sometimes in France, those cremone are actually a very dark metallic grey. It's gorgeous : it has a patina that makes the shade varies. I'm sure you can do that with your fairy hands. And then, you can paint the window black and still see the "cremone".

By the way, as mentionned above, that cremone makes me think of the doorknob in Alice, which makes me love the window even more.

I can email you pictures of dark grey cremones if you need some.

    XOXO,
    Magali

  47. So I have been away (out of touch) for about 6 weeks and trying to catch up on your blog. Not sure that the computer re-loaded me back to my actual departure - cause I didn't see the kitchen floor that you don't like and I didn't see anything on the cruise that you were taking. Maybe you could direct me (i.e the dates?) But I have to tell you that I have laughed until tears came and sobbed over many of the tender moments. You do have a gift. No matter how John may needle you about the purpose/value of the blog.....it has value. You are a truly unique person. I do have to tell you that because of your blog ...last October I signed up for a trip in April and I am anticipating my first time in Paris. However, I was suddenly given an opportunity to work in Vienna for 6 weeks (the first time I have travelled to Europe....which I just finished. I will see what happens in Paris....but I think Vienna will be MY first love. Je t'adore!

    1. Oh my Gosh - you lucky thing - VIENNA !!! It may very well be your first love -
Paris was the first European city I ever visited - perhaps that's why I love it so!
Because I loved every place I was lucky enough to visit - but Paris will always be very very special to me :) Couldn't you see yourself living in Europe - away from all the petty North American politics?
You'll see the original floor I laid when I do the post about the new tiles LOL - it makes me too sick to look for the photos right now
We booked our cruise for October in the end - because there's just too much happening right now to do it - it would be insanity to try to arrange it - and then to come back to sheer chaos it not so appealing either.
I'm running to tell John my blog has VALUE - LOL - but if the truth be known the only value this blog has are the people that follow it - and that's the truth !
      Much love,

  48. I've been dreaming of black windows since you started talking about them. But that hardware is to die for...is there any way to install it as is, and then paint it black later? Or does it have to be painted first? I'm guessing the latter, which is why you are asking. I'm officially declaring myself as no help to you at all in this matter!

    ReplyDelete
  49. LOVE the way you spent millions on this window! :) It is gorgeous!! I do believe that it needs to remain as is...at least for the time being. The hardware would not show up and it is the star of the show after all.

Thanks again for doing this giveaway for Abby! The bracelet is beautiful, however, the thought and love behind it is the best.

  51. Love the window! To paint or not to paint? That is the question! I don't know, it's beautiful as is but black would be so pretty! Live with it awhile?
The character could be the door knob from Beauty and the Beast but it also reminded me of some of the birds in Alice in Wonderland.

  52. I love the hardware, I am all for installing it for now and seeing how it looks. and if the black window it what you want, then paint the hardware to stick out.
