I awoke yesterday morning and thought " I can't look at a hammer or a screwdriver or paint today "
I just couldn't do it - the thought of it filled me with anxiety for some reason - sometimes that happens - my body takes over and tells my mind " Enough - she needs a rest "
It doesn't say it nearly enough in my humble opinion - but I'll take it when it happens.
And so I stopped.

There's half a house still to renovate - and the other half looks like a florist's shop
And it's summertime - the livin' is easy................or it's supposed to be
I'll be back in the mudroom working my butt off today.
But wait - just wait until the peonies blossom............I'm going to take that day off too

I love fresh cut flowers in the house. That must mean you have stopped receiving snow till next year??? lol. I think we're safe now, out here in Alberta too. Have a wonderful week.

I don't know about you, but when I start placing bouquets around my house- I get that "love where your planted" feeling. Somehow a house becomes a HOME. I think you might be getting there Suzan! xxoo

But I DO feel at home on the outside of the house - in the garden specifically ( the front still looks like hell - awful curb appeal - but that has to wait until the inside's finished )
And if I'm very honest - the kitchen feels like home to me too - but that's about it. It still feels like I'm renovating to sell - which I am. ( unless I fall madly in love with it from now till then - which has been known to happen :)

Many of my spring blooms are coming through now too, but my hydrangeas -- not even buds set yet, and I discovered that there is a peony slowly being strangled by it hidden behind its leaves, so I will be digging that out tomorrow when the temperature finally decides to get above FIFTY DEGREES F again. Geez Louise! Your oak leaf hydrangeas and your lilacs -- oh, they are SO beautiful. My "vulgar" day lilies won't bloom until July; the Iris rhizomes I plopped into the dirt last year and prayed for miraculously are popping up through inches and inches of mulch the landscapers poured over the planting beds as part of their spring "clean-up." Oh my! But they came through, good ol' regular Irises, and what I thought was going to be a beautiful display of lavender (the old fashioned German Irises) are actually yellow! There is much that can be done to improve the gardens at this "new" old house. Things are already looking better (IMHO) since I moved in last July. I love this time of year - except for the 38 degree F nights we've had the past few days. Reminds me of 2001, when it did not really warm up until the end of June! ACH! Taking a day to smell the roses is IMPORTANT to our equilibrium and physical well-being. The mud-room will get done, as will the rest of the house, and from the work that you have already done, the entire house will be fabulous, dahling, I've no doubts about that at all. So RELAX and BREATHE, Suzan. Have a couple glasses of wine and take a few sniffs of those gorgeous lilacs (those and lily-of-the-valley are my favorite scents in the whole world) and rejuvenate, Girlfriend :)
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are so pretty, Suzan! It's good to listen to your body...we've been renovating our sunporch and I'm just back from 10 days away from blogging. Unplanned...but I just wanted to play in my garden...so I did lol.
ReplyDeleteI cut my peopmies yesterday, because we were having (and still are) torrential downpours, and I knew they would get beaten to death. They look beautiful in the living room. I love all your flowers. I have one tip: I am/was a florist and wanted to tell you to not let any leaves be under the water line. They give off a gas that will kill the flowers. Just a heads up:) Can't wait to see your peonies!!
ReplyDeleteLove your beautiful flowers!! We have tons of work to do in our home...I've been working on getting old wallpaper border off the kitchen and dining room walls. Floors need redone, both bathrooms need remodel and carpet needs taken out of two bedrooms and also in the basement family room. Guess there is always something that needs done.

It must smell heavenly there with all those beautiful flowers! It's good to take a day off to smell the flowers once in a while.

ReplyDeleteSo many lovely blooms! :) I can imagine the different scents wafting through the rooms. Now just tell the ants to stay off the peonies that you want to bring in later on :)
ReplyDeleteThere were ants all over these too - but I know with peonies they're crawling in them..................I usually dunk them in a bucket of cold water before bringing them in - and still a bunch come crawling out - yuck !
