A CRATE MAKEOVER

My daughter just moved from a high rise apartment in Montreal -
In the garage of that building there was sort of a " free cycle " situation - where people would leave things down there that they no longer wanted and it would always be gone the next day.

This trunk was left down there and she snapped it up for Mama !
It was on wheels - perfect - except that most of it was still in it's raw state of plywood

Except for the 2 top inserts which look like this - ( and which I would never remove - I'm not one to rewrite history !!! )  I don't know what that blue corner is from - but it's staying too

But I DID give it a white wash all over

It's the perfect storage for the front ( enclosed ) porch - outside Christmas decor or even to store boots and such during the summer !
And nestles under the console table I placed in front of one of the windows perfectly !

I meant to have the other side of this area complete by the weekend - but it was so oppressively hot that I would have expired had I attempted it !
It was almost 100 degrees with the humidity....................I can take the heat but the humidity?  It feels like trying to breathe with weights laying on top of your body - it's just horrible !

Bit I DID get the blinds up on the window - and I covered the foam on the built in benches with blankets from Ikea ( the little pillows came from there too )  I got an exceptional deal on the foam !

And at least one side is done - that's better than no side, right?

Work begins on the deck today - the posts are going in !
And Tuesday my new stove gets delivered
And Wednesday the foundation goes down for the deck
And Thursday the actual planks get laid.............
And Friday?
Well we'll discuss that on Friday's chat ( about this & that )

Have a wonderful day everyone !
Much love,
Hugs too

  5. OMG you just can't duplicate something like that, such a score! sqeek, sqeek squeek, rattle as i push it to the road yelling to Dave to start the truck!!!! Seriously, keep an eye on that treasure.... Gosh your place sounds like the chaos of mine, bet you don't have the mud to deal with after the ton of rain we had, but you might after digging holes if that is needed. We have had the humidity too, it's brutal! Wishing you a good week, I hope it dries up here so we can continue the rebuild. xo Patty

  6. Great historical treasure! I wonder how it got back to your area from Belgium?
I like the trunk, but love the clock drawn on the wall. If you blogged about it, I missed it.
So cool and so not pretentious.......
    Thanks for sharing.

I DID blog about the clock last week - it's a decal ( stick on ) that I found at Ikea a year or two ago :)

  8. Suzan...I love it!! My husband made me a trunk when we were first married 36 years ago. I still have the trunk...and I've been wanting to paint it white and put wheels on it...for several years now. Maybe...I'll get to it this coming Fall.

  9. What a great find...good daughter. I'd say she knows her mama. :) it looks great! As for not finishing, I don't blame you! Heat is one thing but humidity is something else. Sounds like you have a full week! Good luck.

  20. Love the crate, Suzan! I have a very similar one covered in camouflage paint that I've not been able to decide what to do with. Perhaps white paint is the way to go...
