An antique church pew ..............................
I bought this well over a year ago.................
but was terrified that it came with a " spirit " attached to it............................you can read about that HERE
( and the comments are far more interesting - and hilarious - than the post itself )
And so it was banished to the garden - facing the pool - where it sat exposed to the elements for well over a year...............
When I finished giving the front enclosed porch it's makeover I decided it was time to bring it back in -
As terrible as it was to put it outside and risk it being destroyed forever ( along with the ghost that came with it hopefully ) it came back in with the most beautiful " washed " patina !
I think whatever was attached to it has left the building..............or maybe it's swimming around in the pool
In the meantime I'm glad to have this beauty back inside where it belongs :)
Have a wonderful day everyone !
Much love,
Me

Oh Lord! I don't know how I missed that post, but I'm going straight there now. It's very pretty and looks like it was made for that spot.
ReplyDeleteI'm back and OMG! That would scare the mess out of me. Better go get yourself a gallon or two of "haint blue". That's what people around here do to ward off evil spirits. HaHa! Google haint blue and homes in Charleston, SC. Looks like your heart is coming to life in that last photo...oh wait, is that a touch of haint blue behind it?
ReplyDeleteBOO!!!! That is a beautiful piece and I'm glad you brought it inside.
ReplyDeleteYour linked post was great and interesting. I worked in an antique mall with a three story barn from the 1850s. We had many electricity/light issues, and a playful visitor that would go through the booths and play with the toys---arranged on the floor. Mind you closing down the lights in this building with all the lamps…you would see the space empty and the next morning filled with arrangements of blocks, books etc. on the floor and only one person had the keys. Many other instances happened there. So many that the location made paranormal tv series and a few others. Occasionally a mean spirit would be around, as well as the passed patriarch of the family in another building. But, that is another story for my own blog, LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks ! Not too sure if I could work in a haunted building - holy cow - I'd be terrorized out of my mind !

Love it !!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Pati !

Love that pew!
ReplyDeleteWell, that was entertaining. I certainly hope that the bench has been "cleansed". I wouldn't think a church pew could be haunted, though. I've had some freaky stuff happen. Dreamt there was a snake in the washing machine. Later that day, I checked on a load of clothes, there was the snake swimming around in the water. I had to get the neighbor come get it out for me.
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking good thoughts for the bench but let us know if you see anymore strange men in the house.
hmmmm. I think that would be described as a relic. It's cute, but I would probably want to paint it...yes, I am one of those!
ReplyDeleteSuzan you made my day! I haven't had a laugh like this for a long time. The bench is gorgeous, so perfectly warn. Such a great find. (Still laughing) We will have to talk about ghosts some time. I have several experiences that will freak you out! I guess it's all of that antique furniture in my house. lol Jo
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. Love the new patina it got!!
ReplyDeleteit's a beautiful bench, Suzan... can't believe you left it outside. Loved re-reading the comments on last year's post about the ghost.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty! -Marci @ Stone Cottage Adventures
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, I would've been the same way. I remember a few years ago I had pee at church and I went through the back where the priests office was and I was freaked out. I don't know why but since I was a kid I have been that way
ReplyDeleteCindy
I was wondering what happened to your visitor 😉. Love the bench, perfectly aged and fits the space like a glove. Tell John to watch out for the branch. xo Patty
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I have an antique church pew that my great grandmother bought for at her childhood church. She bought all of the pews for the church...and when the time came to update the little church they gave family members sections of the pews. They are simple country church pews...but I would not take anything for mine. It has scuffs and such...probably from little kids crawling all over them. ha! I have a post about it on the blog. Just search for pew. Yours is lovely. Sheila
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThere is a very long one ...super long super pew...in the local mission store and I just need to win the lottery in order to buy a house to fit it in, haha!
LOL Deb !!!

What a fabulous piece!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! The weathered finish is perfection! I had to go back and reread that post and the comments. I remembered it but had not read the comments. LOL!
ReplyDeleteRustic beauty.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a pew like that before. Very simple and perfect with it's worn finish now.
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous and deserves a place indoors. Love that fabulous patina.
ReplyDeleteOMG, I'm LMHO that you kept the pew outside to rid of its male companion then I almost pee'd my pants when you said he's probably been swimming in the pool. I cannot share in here what I did to get rid of a spirit attached to an antique piece I brought in but let's just say I haven't heard from IT since.
ReplyDeleteOh my word, I completely forgot about that! Yikes. I agree with one of the above comments-I don't think a church pew would be haunted.
ReplyDeleteLove that pew...it is just perfect for that space. And the worn patina! Perfection. And has John seen the branch? What did he say?
Hugs
Cecilia
He hasn't mentioned the branch Cecilia - but I've been waiting for him to LMHO - too funny !
ReplyDeleteXOXO
I remember that post. Glad your spirit has settled somewhere else......or did he???? Just kidding. Didn't mean to scare you...lol, but it looks amazing in its new home.
ReplyDeleteThis is really beautiful . You have such a great sense of style!
ReplyDeleteOh Mary - you're so sweet - thanks so much !

Beautiful!!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Alli !

You are so hilarious.
ReplyDeleteJust think, though - if it is a CHURCH pew, than the spirit is a nice one. That's all that really counts, right?
Looks amazing, I love it and would looooove to have it. Shorters ones are impossible to find.
BTW- that pic of you, golly you have beautiful hair!
♥
This is an adorable bench...bet it looked really cute out by the pool. A friend bought a bench a lot like this, painted it turquoise and put it by her pool...really pretty.
ReplyDeleteI like it in the space you have there...never have seen such a small church pew....most are too large for a normal home...this is a little beauty.
I have seen this post linked up numerous times this week at parties I visit and every time I tell myself I need to check it out.....And then I am a bad party participant because I link up and leave. I finally had to take the time to look, though, and am in LOVE with that church pew. That is one special piece of furniture and the patina that it got outside made it even more beautiful. You can't recreate the look of the wood no matter how hard you try, which is one reason why I'm always so drawn to furniture like this. So pretty. Jamie | anderson + grant
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Jamie ! Such a compliment considering YOU are the queen of wood patina !

wow it really is pretty! love it
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Kandice !!!

ReplyDeleteThanks SO much !

I love the pew. I was at an estate sale that a church was having last week and they had church pews for sale. I thought about your "spirit" when I saw them!
ReplyDeleteLove the pew... you are so funny ...just love your stories... thanks for sharing at share it One More Time...Tammy
ReplyDeleteIf our church had pews that cute, maybe I'd visit more often! haha JK or not .... Summer church is more of a "guideline" isn't it?!! I'm confused though ... if you were taking pictures of a table, how did you know it was the pew that had "friends"? I also redo a lot of old furniture, and have only had one experience .. I was opening a dresser drawer, and got the best feeling from the hardware ... immediate calm and peace came over me ... I took it as a good omen and didn't replace them and on the very day it was listed, the sweetest old man came and bought it for his wife to hold her sewing supplies. I didn't want him to think I was cra-cra, so I just mentioned that the original hardware had a "great feel" to them ! :D
ReplyDeleteYou're a great story teller, Suzan!! Keep them coming! :D Cynthia
OK at the risk of sounding totally demented - here's the story
DeleteI brought the pew home - and you know how you got the most peaceful calm feeling? Well I sat on it and jumped off it immediately I " sensed " a lady sitting on it and crying uncontrollably...........
I flew off the bench and never said anything - a couple of nights later that man appeared ( I'm peeing my pants typing this because it all sounds so insane ) I thought the two were connected.
Nothing like that has ever happened to me - before or since - and I come from a long line of people who swore they could " see " the other side - thought they were all bat $hit crazy until this happened LMHO !!!!
XOXO
I love your ghostly pew. Now you just have to make certain that you can swim without something pulling you under the water.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fancy little church pew. Love it!
