TURNING A CHRISTMAS WREATH INTO A FALL WREATH

Good morning everyone !

Our house doesn't have much curb appeal.
At. All.
We've been focusing on renovating the interior and the back yard took a lot of our energy and money this summer so I haven't given much thought to the front at all (well I DO actually think of it constantly  but until it's painted and some windows are replaced I kind of just dart in and out and try not to look at it very much)
I painted the interior of the door - but never got around to painting the other side - you know - the one that every single person in the neighborhood sees as they walk by?  It's faded and blotchy and really crying out for a makeover.
But I've yet to see a door that didn't look nicer with a wreath on it.

I mentioned in my last post that I don't decorate for Fall on the inside ( or very little anyway ) but I DO try to do a little on the outside - I live in a 4 season climate after all  ( whether I like it or not )

I think probably everyone has a Christmas Wreath ( or 2 or 3 or 15 - I'm obsessed with Christmas Wreaths)
and it's SO easy to convert one of them into any seasonal wreath.
I bought all the foliage and berries from the dollar store and just poked them through ( there's a couple of twist ties where it didn't cooperate with me ) and ended up with a pretty welcoming fall wreath that can very easily be converted back to a Christmas one when THAT season arrives

I started with this - it's one of those sparkly glitter ones - but any kind will work since you're covering most of it up anyway !

Not only is the below wreath selling for 83.99 ( cdn ) on Amazon - it's also temporarily out of stock ( 'tis the season of Fall wreaths don't you know ? )  It's gorgeous - but I can't justify spending that on a wreath when the entire outside needs a makeover................

AMAZON

And when I can create one for under 15.00

I can see now - through the photos - that I still need to " tweak " a couple of areas - but you can see how easy it was to create, right?  A simple can of spray paint ( in orange or gold or red ) could even take it one step further so that the background isn't noticeable at all - for me it's fine
I picked up the wreath years ago at a garage sale for 3.00 - keep an eye out for them because they can so easily be transformed.

As a diy'er - how on earth did we ever even  function before the dollar stores came along?
For a few extra dollars I FALLified the mailbox too

I hung all this up yesterday - even though it was 33 degrees here in Montreal ( a little under 92 degrees American ) with the humidity because I had the items on hand and I simply can't wait..............for anything   So it looks like July everywhere except my front door -

And that's it.................the fall foliage is mixed up with summer flowers - hopefully it'll be so confusing to passer-bys that they won't even notice how badly the building is in need of repair

Ok folks - Miss Sodapup wants in

And I may or may not have a front door to paint !

Have a wonderful day everyone !!!
Hugs,
Me

  1. Your wreath looks beautiful and I really like your front door, blotches and all. It all looks very welcoming. Yes, Dollarama etc. are great stores to buy decor things. One just needs some imagination and an old wreath for a base. XO Pam

  7. While I do see that your door is blotchy (someone used the wrong type of stain, it appears), it is a beautiful door... truly! Your wreath is lovely.

  9. Wow, looks fantastic! Great idea, think I will head to the dollar store tomorrow! I hope Ashley, Chris and Evan are starting to find their way together, first week can be stressful but wonderful at the same time 😍. Love the pic of your door. why not just sand it in places and apply a dark wax for now. Might get you through this year while not bugging you everytime you see it. I will be so happy when my porch is finally built. I have a wreath waiting for it. Stick some dollar store in the still green planters too. Save a buck then go cuddle and kiss Evan for us! xo P

    1. You'll be amazed at what they have at the dollar store for Fall Patty !!!
Yes - Ashley and Chris ( and baby makes 3 ) are definitely finding their way - except she won't put Evan down lol.
I'm too tired and lazy to start sanding that door down - I'm probably going to leave it until next Spring - I thought I might paint it yesterday but moved on to something else instead LOL.
I'm going to see Evan tomorrow - soooo excited !

  10. Suzan, as a wreath-maker of many years, I have to say that I actually I like yours better than the Amazon one (can't believe that price!). I can't quite put my finger on it....going back and forth between the two pictures. Yours just seems to have more depth to it. And maybe it's because it doesn't look so much like a giant orange monster threw up ! It's hard to think about a nice cool Fall when it's still in the mid-90's (here, too), but I think it's time to take down my colorful summer Fiesta wreath and put up something that looks more like New England (cuz it shore never looks like colorful fall trees around here!)

I have a few Christmas wreaths just waiting for me to get my hands on them. ha! Actually...I have a couple of older grape vine wreaths that I restyle with inexpensive, sometimes dollar store, fall leaves, sticks, etc. It's all fun. Sheila

  13. How clever you are! This is one of those "why didn't I think of that?" moments! I have a ton of wreaths and although I love my Fall front door wreath, I have been using it forever. I was thinking of replacing it and I could easily copy-cat your idea and fall-ify one of my other ones. For this year, anyways! Love what you did to the mailbox too....so cute!

  14. Love how you invented a new word! Falsify , no fallify stupid spell check! Love you Reno wreath, not Reno, reno! And the mailbox is gorgeous! It's raining and blowing but still warm. The Virginia Creeper is turning all kinds of lovely colors and the Dogwood too. Brewing up another ulcer sore back, so shall say adieau, farewell, August viedersehen , not August but auf! Goodnight to you! Xxxx

  15. The glittery part of the wreath showing through makes me think of frost. It is so pretty! Soda is looks good - pretty girl!

  16. Beautiful. I like the bit of the white 'bling' part showing through. Gives a nice little touch to it and after all, some places do get a touch of frost during the Fall months so it fits right in.
I normally pick up A lot of my wreaths at Goodwill stores; bringing them home, removing all off the 'ugly' stuff and starting over and doing my own thing.

  17. This is a gorgeous door....I always have the same questions when I see those beautiful wreaths.. What do you use to hang them? We just have a brand new door and do not want to damage it..

    1. There was a nail already in the door when we bought it - so I just hung it on that ( it's a solid wood door not steel )
You could just buy a wreath hook that hangs over the top of the door !
      Thanks SO much !!!
