Not another Tablecloth !

John's been complaining about the tablecloth as a curtain in the kitchen since I put it up -
AND if he's not complaining - he's laughing about it - ( I can handle that he doesn't like it - but when he laughs at it ? No no no - that won't do )

A package arrived last week -

John says - Not another black and white checked tablecloth !!!
John says - This is the 3rd one - it's becoming an obsession with you
Suzan says - No - it's not another tablecloth - I ordered an actual curtain this time

Complete with a valance

John says - Well now - you have to admit that looks a lot better ?
Suzan says - I didn't mind the tablecloth there at all
John says - You can't admit it when I'm right, can you?
Suzan says - Okay - Okay - I admit it - it does look better

Suzan says - But YOU have to admit that the new lights look good ( you can see what he thought about them when I ordered them here.

They're a little too high - I have to lower them - but they're up !

I like that they're downlighting - the last light - being glass - lit the whole kitchen - these really focus on the island

And by the way - I haven't told John yet that I simply bought a longer tablecloth - and folded the top to create a valance -

I WILL - I'm just going to let him gloat until the perfect opportunity comes up......................
And it will -
It always does
Timing - everything in life is about timing!

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone
Much love,
Me

  2. Lol, I was waiting for you to say it Was a tablecloth! Even if it was a curtain, can't John see they look alike? Funny man. :)
Love the lights. They add a nice industrial vibe.
Well, I'm off to start work on my bedroom. I'm hoping I can talk my man into a sliding barn door for the closet. Wish me luck! (I'm springing the idea on him tomorrow night when we go out). As you said, timing is everything. ;)
    Hugs!

  3. I'm dying here knowing it's a tablecloth and him thinking how much better a 'curtain' looks. Brilliant! And here I was so impressed you were able to find a curtain with the exact same buffalo check pattern as the tablecloth.

  6. It took me a long time to read this post because I had to take each photo and carefully inspect every element, it's so entertaining. Yes, the lights look great as well as everything else. Did you do a post on the spoon hangy thing by your window and I missed it?

  7. I like your new tablecloth curtain. The longer length is nice. And I love your new lights! They really look great with the whole black and white scheme in your kitchen. It all looks very nice!

  9. I love it - you have the last laugh. What's with men anyway, who cares what it was, as long as it does the job of what your trying to achieve. It could be a pair of underpants. Yes, I would wait until that perfect moment and spring it on him, but be sure to take a picture so we can see the look on his face. LOL
    You go girl.

  14. My guess is that John doesn't read the blog or he would know about the tablecloth. And, he would really have something to say about all the teasing he gets on the blog.

Love the checks and who says you can't make curtains from a tablecloth. Tell him that I have made them from sheets.

  15. Hahahaha - I must admit I didn't see that coming. You are too funny.

  16. Oh, you're so mean! Letting him think he won, just to crush him later... I would so love to be there when you tell him!

  17. Your are brillant! Really! I don't know what he is fussing about the tablecloth repurpose, quite a few homes in England have heavy curtains over theirs doors for draughts. Perhaps calling it a curtain sits better with him? Just wait till the bomb drops... teeheehee. Patty

  24. Honestly, I was going to suggest that you fold down the top for a valance, I did that in a bedroom and added trim to the edge.........then I finished reading your post......and you already did it!!!! Great minds traveling in the same direction!!!! Men are so funny......time to think outside of the box John..........hugs to all!!

  26. You guys are hilarious! I love that it's another tablecloth! I think it looks great Suzan. Love your lights too.

  27. Hi Suzan,
I love the look, and considered a spot here in my home. It's really such a French countryside look, as well as English cottage and I have always loved the style. I can see where he might not be able to wrap his head around it or why you like it so, but a big part of it's look is the use of a table cloth, like sheets on my windows or drop cloths. I have this opening into the kitchen and I have thought to do this very thing to the opening. Hmmmm! You got me thinking here :)

This is another cute posting, and loving your designed space.

    Xx

  28. Well I love the lights, and the tablecloths... just want to be a fly on the way to see John's expression when he finds out the secret.

  29. I've made several sets of curtains out of tablecloths in my time. I just made some for my living room last month. I had been looking for months for some red fabric the right color or design I wanted. I was in Tjmaxx around Christmas and found red tablecloths with a silver thread in it that I loved. I even drove to a town 40 minutes away to get a second one the right size. Several friends have said they love them and that they match the room perfectly. Don't gloat to much with the hubby

  35. Love the new lights, they look great! BWAHAHA @ the look (imagining it) on your hubbies face when you drop the "this curtain is a tablecloth" bomb.
    Have a wonderful day :)

  36. I love the "outside the box" thinking. I love thrift store shopping and taught my daughter to look at things for the fabric and not what they currently are. I have used old curtains to crochet throw rugs, sheets for curtains, a skirt to make a throw pillow, a sheet for a Christmas tree skirt, a shower curtain as a tablecloth for a small kitchen table, and the list goes on. I currently have tablecloths on clip rings as curtains in my dining room and in my kitchen. My daughter made herself a darling skirt for Easter from old floral sheets from the thrift store.
