It was 28 degrees in Montreal yesterday ( 82 degrees in " American " ) with a beautiful breeze.
I was in shorts and a t-shirt and my favorite footwear - flip flops.
It's simply glorious to be outside working on cleaning up the yard :)
But before I went out there I gave the mantel in my bedroom a quick dry-brushing of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint - in pure white.
(It was that or carry it downstairs and through the house and into the back yard.
I seriously considered putting it in our outdoor " dining " area - but I didn't have the energy it would require )
I wanted to lighten it up though if it was staying in the bedroom - you know, just because it's summertime and the livin' is easy )
John says - Are you going to paint it seasonally?
Suzan says - Maybe .................
I hung a magazine basket and wrote our names on each section
John says - Oh good I can keep my kindle in there
Suzan says - Nope, no room
John says - So why didn't you just write Suzan & Suzan?
Suzan says - Because that would just look selfish.
I mean if you're going to be selfish - it's best not to look it to the outside world, right?
They're a perfect place to keep a few books I plan on reading. ( some for the first time - some again )
I'm liking it so much better than the grey I originally painted it in
Doesn't it look a little more " summery " now?
That art work on the mantel? I bought that at the Louvre about 5 years ago..........it's a print of a famous sculpture................I bought it so I'd look sophisticated.
Don't ask me who the sculptor is - I have no idea - because I'm not sophisticated.
But I actually saw it in person :)
UPDATE - Su from Butterfly 8)(8 Bungalow pointed out the following ( because she IS sophisticated)
"The figures are Cupid and Psyche, and it's in the Louvre. It's the Kiss by Antonio Canova."
I feel just a tiny bit more worldly now LOL - not that I'll remember this information tomorrow.
Thanks so much Su !
I'll be working in the yard if anyone's looking for me today.
In my shorts..............and flip flops

The new white paint looks great Suzan. I like the wicker baskets hanging there too. Yesterday it was 26 C here with a gusty (and I mean knock the wind chimes like crazy gusty) wind from the south. Today it's 16 with a similar wind from the north. Oh well. I have socks on inside my sandals. Not 'cool' but they keep my toes warm. :) Have a great day in the yard!
ReplyDeleteI like the white version of the fireplace, but both are pretty. The figures are Cupid and Psyche, and it's in the Louvre. It's the Kiss by Antonio Canova. Su
ReplyDeleteLove the summer white...perfect!
ReplyDeleteFireplace looks Great.
ReplyDeleteStar Wars........May the Fourth be with you :}
I love it in white, all distressed, looks great. I noticed the picture right away, so beautiful. Went to Halifax and did some fun shopping, a few flipflops and sandles found their way home with me. Gosh, it hit 23 C today, got nuts!! xo Patty
ReplyDeleteI like the change
ReplyDeleteCindy
Suzan, the white looks SO much nicer... summerier... than grey/gray. :) Add the baskets and it is definitely a warm weather look. Perfect!
ReplyDelete~ Christina
It looks great, Suzan! I'm curious about what books are in those baskets... đŸ˜‰
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie !
DeleteBooks? Just went to verify LOL
A Suitable Boy - by Vikram Seth - ( next on the list )
The Life of F. Scott Fitzgerald
Agatha Chrstie Collection
All the Light we Cannot See - Anthony Doerr ( just finished - O.M.G. - incredible )

I do like it in white...love the basket hanging, too.
ReplyDeleteMuch better. I love the light, bright, and summery new paint job. Thanks for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party.
ReplyDeleteOh I like the change! It's so pretty! Good idea with the baskets. Silly John. Of course, it's all for you. :-)
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Ceecee
What??? No space for John's books in "his" basket??? Sorry Suzan, but this time I'm on poor John's side. Do like the new look of the fireplace mantle.
ReplyDeleteSuzan you are so darling, I loved our post and the fireplace looks amazing. Hugs, Jo
ReplyDeleteI liked the fireplace in the grey but the white is nice for the warm months. It would take a lot more than two baskets to hold all the books I have in the bedroom! I am working on that book hoarder thing.
ReplyDeleteShorts and flipflops? Wow! I had to wear my winter coat today, it was 46 and rainy. LOL Love the new color of the mantle.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much !
DeleteWe've already had some stifling hot days here !
xoxo
I think I like it both ways... the gray for different reasons and the white because it's different. Can you make two?
ReplyDeletetotally love the white!! so glad your weather is getting warm, have fun!
ReplyDeleteI love it in white...and I am loving this weather! We might even get a bit of snow on Friday.....here in Alberta (Not You Guys)......fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteI think the white is deffinitely more summer-y. Red for Christmas?
ReplyDeleteLoving it lighter!!
ReplyDeleteI like the white version better, and the baskets are a cute touch. Thanks for linking this to Best of The Weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love the gray and the white too... it does look more like summer with the white.
ReplyDeleteI love the white distress look. So soft, and so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Trish !!!
