But I do have hutch space - and not one to ever leave anything clutter free I decided to create a chalkboard on the side of it !
A little picture molding - and voila - a place to keep notes ( and believe me this is going to come in very handy - since my memory is horrible these days )
This could so easily be done on a pantry door - or even a kitchen cabinet door ( if you HAVE to have a chalkboard and don't have wall space, that is LOL )
Since I painted the whole unit in chalkboard paint it was pretty easy - I put a coat of polyurethane over everywhere BUT the section I want to use as an actual chalkboard
And then because one wasn't enough - I painted an old clipboard I had
( I kept it open with a twist tie so I could paint under the clip )
I added a stencil ( with a chalk pen )
found a stand at the dollar store
Which was the perfect size to rest the clipboard on -
And then what the hay - while I was at the dollar store I found a cutting board with a hanger on top
for 2.00
And made one last one
probably a terrible cutting board - but it makes for a great little art piece
I added a hook to hang a whisk from
Okay I've got to beat it myself now - I have too many appointments and errands today and too many layers of clothing to put on to try and keep my core temperature at a level I can live with .............
Hoping this cold snap leaves soon - it's really been unbearable lately
I may hang a chalkboard from every piece of furniture I own LOL !!!
Have a wonderful day everyone !
Much love

What a great idea to create a chalk message board on the side of your beautiful hutch! Your dollar store has some pretty awesome items to transform into accessories for this project. You always share the best ideas and solutions!
ReplyDeleteCute idea! I can see how this could become an obsession until the paint runs out. lol Like the wreath. You're too clever, Suzan. Have a wonderful Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteLove the chalk board on the cabinet. So clever. My theory is you can never have too many chalk boards. I love them everywhere too. I hope my cabinet I am bringing into my kitchen looks as good as yours. That cabinet is so pretty.

It's freezing here too! I have yet to make anything into a chalkboard. What's wrong with me??? Yours are adorable.

ReplyDeleteLove it and what a cute piece of art! Great tip on how to paint under the clip as well. Hope you didn't freeze while out and about!
ReplyDeleteYou always have the cutest ideas...love this so much. I'm pretty sure every blogger in town is going to have a chalk board on the side of their hutch now. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat little decorating ideas! Yes, I also hope this cold leaves soon. It's getting everyone down, along with the snow.
ReplyDeleteWhat a unique idea to put the chalkboard on the side of your hutch! I should do that to at least one piece of furniture in each room to jot down those ideas/needs that I can't remember by the time I find something to write on!
ReplyDeleteCan never have enough chalkboards I say. I love your stink'n cute dollar store "Beat It" clipboard! Now I've got that dang song in my head :\
