Painted Mantel

Good - thank God - it's Friday everyone !

I've been plugging away at the reading room for I don't know how long now - and it's still not finished - I still have all the finishing touches to do - but here's where I am with the mantel

hmmmmmmmmm...............I spy painter's tape on the right hand side - if I didn't blog and take photos that may have stayed there until we move LOL

the plan is to install an electric insert - but for now I happened to have a piece of plywood that almost fit perfectly.- we just need to frame it out with a little molding to fill in the gaps

I painted it using the same paint I used as the base under the paisley pattern on the floor

Than I placed a mirror against the dark background - it's one of those mirrors that's boxed in with a mirror frame as well- so it's 3 dimensional and looks like it has a depth ( from a distance anyway )

I'll be installing ( probably marble tiles from Home Depot ) some type of hearth underneath it - which is why the painted floor stops abruptly - I don't want to paint one inch more than I have to of that paisley design lol.

Suzan says - I need you to cut out some molding to frame the plywood in the reading room
John says - In the what room?
Suzan says - The reading room
John says - Why are you calling it a reading room?  It's a den
Suzan says -  It's a reading room - I've always wanted one - so that's what it is
John says - Where do you think you're living - a town house in London?

Not quite - ( do only houses in London have reading rooms? )

Oh well -  so does this ramshackle house of mine now too !

This is the seller's photo - they had an insert in it too

But I thought wood against the plank wall was going to be too much of a mish mash of rustic.............

You all have a wonderful weekend
Big hugs,
Me
