MULTI COLOR MONDAY #6

In a desperate effort to find color in a world ( my world ) that's filled to the brim with sensible neutrals - I'm dedicating one day a week to colorful vignettes that have caught my eye.

Color me Monday - have a seat !

We're supposed to have a warm week so I'm hoping the view from my window is a last hurrah -
AND I'm praying for you all that your outside does NOT look like this

Yes - it's snowing - do you understand why I'm a little obsessed with color right now???

Dear God - how depressing................and almost impossible to believe that this is on its way

A FRIDAY CHAT ( about this & that )

Good morning everyone !

Come in - come in !

I want a new kettle.
This one in particular

Which I first saw over at BUTTERFLY & BUNGALOW  -

EXCEPT I LIVE IN CANADA - WHERE OUR DOLLAR NOT ONLY LOOKS LIKE MONOPOLY MONEY - IT ACTUALLY HAS THE SAME VALUE ( almost )

So while Americans can get to own this beauty for 129.95 with FREE SHIPPING ( still a lot of money for a kettle but worth the splurge ! ) we have to pay 199.99 PLUS SHIPPING.

I can't do it.
I just can't.
Every time I turned it on I'd want to vomit thinking how ripped off we are.
TRUE NORTH STRONG AND FREE ?
Oh Canada - we're the true north and ridiculously priced.

So I'm afraid I'll be boiling the water for your tea in my plain old kettle ( not that there's anything wrong with a plain old kettle )
________________________________________________________________________________

Which reminds me of other electronics.
In the last 6 months we've purchased :

A Pentax camera
A Bose sound system
A Tablet
A Laptop
A Desktop
A 49" T.V.
A new cell phone ( we won't even discuss what the phone is worth k? It's S.I.C.K.)

Anyway.............we could have installed a new bathroom for what we spent on all that crap necessary stuff.
I'm not joking - we really could have.

I'll just wait till a find a decent kettle for a little under a thousand bucks -
And then I'll buy it.
I seem to be most comfortable with that figure.
_________________________________________________________________________________

Now can someone explain to me why most of these devices are called " smart " something or others?
Because they make me feel extremely stupid.
_________________________________________________________________________________

I'm going to tell you the most embarrassing thing now..............
That new phone I got?
Well I didn't even realize that phones had advanced enough so that you don't have to actually text - you can just speak your text into the mike on the phone.

I FELT LIKE SUCH A GENIUS WHEN I FIGURED IT OUT !

The next time my daughter came over

Mom says - You're NOT going to believe this but I can just speak into my phone instead of actually texting AND I figured it out on my own - I'm like a genius
Daughter says - I almost can't bear to tell you this Einstein but phones have been like that for a long time now.
Daughter says - you have to keep up with the - OW - what the hell was that for? ( rubbing her head )
Mom says - SORRY BUT YOU DESERVED THAT - COULDN'T YOU JUST LET ME LIVE WITH THE ILLUSION ???
Daughter says - I don't know how you manage not understanding any of the devices you have !

How do I do manage ?
On a wing and a prayer ......that's how.
That's how I blog and that's how I live actually ..............it's worked till now.

Cripes !
or Crikey !
Have we made life complicated or what?
We used to buy a t.v. and plug it in and voila - you had moving pictures !
You could play with the antenna and pick up a couple of extra stations if you were really lucky or get cable and have a total of 5 or 6 stations !
You didn't even have to buy a phone - you just rented it from BELL !
Camera's?
Snap - bring to pharmacy - have them develop it and WOW - your captured moments !
I can't remember ever - not once - worrying that the shadows were too long or the colors too bright.
You ?
We were so much happier with so little weren't we?
_________________________________________________________________________________

We were really late on the bandwagon with high definition also.
As in we never had it until last week - when our Plasma died and we moved into the new era.
( we truly thought we were ahead of the times when we bought the plasma 14 years ago )
So my take on THAT is -
I'M NOT SURE I LIKE IT !
I have a brain that registers every single detail - no matter how tiny - and oh my God - I don't know how appealing it is to see a close up of someones zits - or scars ( do you know how many actors and actresses have scars on their chinny chin chins ? )
I EVEN NOTICED THAT ONE ACTRESS HAD A HAIR GROWING ON HERS........
Which depressed the hell out of me - because if their makeup artists can't see them to remove them then there's really no hope for me and my chin hair saga.

Suzan says - OMG - is that a pimple on his face?
John says - Shhh - I'm trying to hear what they're saying
Suzan says - OMG - look at the scar on her forehead !
John says - Shhh - I can't hear what they're saying
Suzan says - UGGGHHH - couldn't the makeup team have covered that zit - it looks like it's going to pop !
John says - CUT IT OUT FOR CRYING OUT LOUD !

But I couldn't help it - I was fascinated ( in a morbid way ) by all the flaws.
_________________________________________________________________________________

I also notice bloopers.
e.g. - we were watching an old episode of Mad Men and Sterling Cooper was drinking a White Russian ( YUCK ) he took a few sips and it went down accordingly and the next ( supposedly seamless ) frame the glass was full again.

Suzan screams - DID YOU SEE THAT ?
John says - what ?
Suzan says - A BLOOPER !!!  HIS GLASS WAS EMPTYING OUT AND IN THE NEXT SHOT IT WAS FULL AGAIN.
John says - Who cares?  What are you - the T.V. investigation squad?
Suzan says -  IT'S A MISTAKE - IT MESSES UP THE WHOLE SCENE FOR ME !
John says - You really need to talk to someone.................
John says - And why the hell are you screaming ?

Between bloopers and H.D. it's going to be very difficult for me to concentrate on a show.

It's March !
Hurray !
Here's what the forecast was for the first day

Blizzard Warning

Issued at 10:34 Tuesday 01 March 2016
Summary
Blizzard conditions with gusty winds and visibility frequently near zero in snow and blowing snow are expected or occurring. An intense low pressure system developing over the Central United States will graze Southern Quebec Wednesday and continue toward the Gaspe Peninsula. It will leave significant amounts of snow of these areas. The combination of strong northeasterly winds and cold temperatures with snow quickly accumulating will give blizzard conditions tonight. There may be a significant impact on rush hour traffic in urban areas. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Blizzard warnings are issued when widespread reduced visibilities of 400 metres or less are expected for at least 4 hours. Please continue to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, send an email to tempsviolent.quebec@ec.gc.ca or tweet reports to #met

Aren't you glad you live wherever you do?
And if you live in the southern States or Australia or Greece - or anywhere where you're officially wearing flip flops ..............just keep quiet about it, ok ?

By the way - all that hype resulted in less then half an inch of snow so even the weather network are dummies - HAH !

My girlfriend's Mom used to sing this when we were kids - with the way I am with technology it should be my anthem really.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend
Spring is right around the corner - but then again that all depends on what corner of the world you live in :)
Kisses & Hugs,

EASY QUICHE !

You know those days when you look in the fridge and there doesn't seem to be much to do anything with?

This recipe is for one THOSE days...........some left over veggies - a few eggs - a little cheese and a ready made pie crust if you're lazy ( I am ) or a beautiful home made one if you're able to do that ( I'm not ) and you have the most delicious meal :)

Preheat oven to 350

Ingredients:

3 eggs if you're using a store bought crust ( you'll see why later ) if you're making your own crust
you'll use 4 eggs
1 cup of broccoli
1 cup of cauliflower
1 onion
1 cups of milk ( I use heavy cream but you can use either or even half and half it )
1 cup of mozerella or swiss shredded cheese
Parmesean cheese
Tablespoon of hot chili flakes ( I put that $^@^% on everything LOL )
Garlic - one clove
Tablespoon of fine herbs
Pinch of salt pepper an chives
Tablespoon of butter

A lot of recipes for quiche call for boiling the veggies for a little before starting -
I don't do that
After chopping everything up small

I saute the onion in a frying pan using the tablespoon of butter for 5 minutes or so and then add my vegetables

Cooking for 2 or 3 minutes at the most................the quiche is going to go in the oven and cook for quite a while so the veggies don't need more time than that !
Next I start on the egg mixture - adding my cream ( or milk or both )

and then everything else

place your veggies in the pie shell

Add your cheeses on top of the mixure

Now the next step is very very important - especially if you have a blog AND you've just joined instagram because as you know you must get pics of each step of the process - so while holding your phone in one hand and pouring the egg mixture over the veggies and cheese be sure to pay attention and grab a shot of the eggs running over the side of the pie tin and down the table and butcher block.

John says - What the HELL is going on here - get off the damn stool with your camera for God Sakes
Suzan says - I was sharing my quiche recipe - I didn't do this on purpose
John says - GET OFF THE STOOL BEFORE YOU KILL YOURSELF !
John says - ARE YOU TAKING A PICTURE OF THAT MESS?
John says - WHAT KIND OF BLOGGING ARE YOU DOING?
John says - I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ANYONE READS YOU
Suzan says - It was all going too perfect - I just knew something was going to happen
Suzan says - Get out of the kitchen please - I think you jinxed me
John roars - So..........what are we having for supper?  Hotdogs ?

But we had QUICHE SUZANNE

And it was delicious - even if my photos are crappy ( forgive me - the momentum was lost in the mayhem )
You just gotta trust me sometimes.............so after pouring the egg mixture over the veggies - you place it in the oven for 40 to 50 minutes - until sharp knife inserted comes out clean
( DO NOT USE SHARP KNIFE ON BETTER HALF AS THEY STAND THERE LAUGHING )

Hey if you're looking for perfection you go to Giada's site
but this was delicious none the less.

PLEASE BELIEVE ME?
Have a wonderful day everyone !
Make a quiche or something :)
Hugs,
Me
( you know - the not Giada person )
It just occurred to me - just this exact moment actually - that my life is a constant series of moments coming to screeching halts..................
Have to work on that.

I WANNA live there Wednesday # 152

Paris...........

I REALLY do want to live there part of the year.
In a perfect world I'd live there for 3 months -3 months in Manhattan - 3 months in my beloved Montreal - and then smack in the middle of winter - I'd spend 3 months somewhere HOT.

Anyway this week it's about Paris apartments of which I completely see myself in any one of them.
There's not a lot of photo's per listing but what there is..........oh gosh it's pure eye candy !

PARIS  8EME  ( Arrondissement = District )
680,000 euros
Realtor - JOHN TAYLOR PARIS

Site reads

CHARMING RENOVATED APARTMENT

In a prestigious period building located in the Golden Triangle, rue Chambiges, one-bedroom apartment of 45m² (35,5m² Carrez law) on the 6th floor. The apartment has been recently renovated with the finest materials and the most modern facilities. It comprises: Entrance Living room Open kitchen
Bedroom Shower room WC

There's nothing quite so beautiful architecturally as Paris roof lines - the hotel we used to stay at looked out at the most glorious roof lines - I used to sit at the window for far too long gazing out at them.
You'd never see an apartment being advertised in North America with pics of that LOL !

You can tell by the windows and sloped ceilings that this apartment is on the top floor - tucked under dormers and eaves

Pieds a terre at it's finest !

This next one ?
Good grief - I almost had to take a valium just to look at it - it's that spectacular !
( I'm probably dating myself here - I don't know what people take today - but when I was little all the Mothers were on valium LMHO )

PARIS 7EME
2,730,000 EUROS
5 rooms
Realtor - AGENCES VARENNE

Site reads

SEVRES BABYLONE In the heart of Sèvres Babylone with a beautiful view overlooking the Square Bousicault, Le Bon Marché and Le Lutetia hotel. A 192 sqm (2066. 7 square feet) south and west facing apartment in a beautiful 1903 building, it comprises an entrance hall leading to the corner living room, dining room and separate kitchen. Three bedrooms with three shower rooms / bathrooms and separate toilet. A 7 sqm (75. 3 square feet) service room completes this property. Some decoration work needed in this apartment bathed in sunshine and with a good layout. .

Can you see the view from that window - holy vache ! ( vache is french for cow - I'm trying to be worldly here )
It's almost too much to take in don't you think?

Why there would EVER be carpet over these floors I have no idea - but that window in my bedroom
Oui  merci

This next one is in the 14 EME
1,730,000 Euros
It reads 3 rooms ( avec une Terasse ! )
Realtor - TERRASSES ET JARDINS
It's not a typical Paris apartment in the sense that we North Americans think of them - but the outdoor space is absolutely priceless !

OH. MY. GOSH.

All this and heaven too!
The dinner parties with twinkling lights and good wine - baguette and aged cheese - while looking over the streets of Paris ?

And then there's the one that my friend Patty sent me ( Thanks Patty ) which started me looking in Paris ( yet again ) this week !

PARIS 6 EME
( St. Germain-des-Pres ) one of my favorite districts !
Pied a Terre
3 rooms
18th century building
Realtor - A & B REAL ESTATE

This company also does design and have a wonderful site HERE

I spy magnificent beams overhead !

Lets see where those stairs lead !

Can you imagine?
I mean really - can you just close your eyes and imagine this as your view every day ?

Think I'll go back to bed and dream a little today
You all have a wonderful one
Hugs,
Me
