I love a fixer upper - but this is ridiculous........

Vancouver, British Columbia - the below photos and prices are found at The Thirties Grind
A blog run by Melissa - if you have the chance - go visit - what a great site!

It's beautiful there, it really is ( I lived there as a child ) and I've been back as an adult -
It's Canada's California I suppose.......................with house prices that reflect that
But this?
This is borderline insanity.....................

2.2 million - looks like Canada's version of  Grey Gardens to me.....................

_________________________________________________________________________________

955,000 - ok come on now people - are you for real?
What do you think - is that a fair price for a garden shed?
Although it's a fair sized garden shed most definitely................

_________________________________________________________________________________

655,000 dollars for this one - not so bad right?  It's quite adorable actually - expensive but adorable

OH SORRY - I DIDN'T READ IT PROPERLY - IT'S 655,000 FOR THE 1 BEDROOM BASEMENT SUITE........................
LET ME REPEAT THAT - IT'S 655,000 FOR THE 1 BEDROOM BASEMENT SUITE....................
LET ME REPEAT THAT - no never mind - think I'll just go vomit instead.
_________________________________________________________________________________

499,000 - ok now we're talking - under half a mill at least
Ma and Pa Kettle had better accommodations than this...........................
It's a Shack!!!!!!!!!!
And it ain't a Sugar Shack let me tell ya!

________________________________________________________________________________

This is alright I suppose - a little small, but alright - hmmm do you think that water feature is worth the
6 MILLION DOLLARS THEY ARE ASKING FOR THIS HOUSE?????????????

 _________________________________________________________________________________

789,000 will get you this beaut - ok at this point I'm snorting with laughter - but it's not funny really - this is not funny at all...................... can you imagine the conversation between the home owner and the realtor?

Realtor - No, I cannot get you a million for this
Homeowner - Well it has a lot of features
Realtor - True - and it IS a two storey
Homeowner - Do you think I should paint?
Realtor - No - I wouldn't bother - we're listing it just under 800,000 - it's a steal at that price

________________________________________________________________________________

Remember these little bungalows?  For 3.2 million dollars it can be yours!
WHY WHY WHY IN GOD'S NAME WOULDN'T YOU MOVE TO MANHATTAN AND HAVE A LUXURY PREWAR APARTMENT FOR THAT PRICE?

 _________________________________________________________________________________

and if 3 million is a little steep for you - well there's this one for 900,000
can you see the potential?  Come on - add some shutters - a railing - it would be night and day..........
( neither can I )
_________________________________________________________________________________

and I saved the cream of the crop for last - wouldn't you just love to get your hands on this one?
can you see your kids happily playing on the lawn?
1,200,000.00
would love to see the interior................
NOT

Artwork!!!

Someone gave my son this once for some work he did for them - ( and I am NOT a prude in any sense of the word but I censored it in case you have little ones sitting on your lap reading this - I'm always thinking of YOU, you know  )

and we all giggled and snorted and laughed about it ( like a bunch of ignoramuses - it could be a Picasso for all we know ) and promptly put it in the cellar dungeon ( yes we do have a dirt dungeon ) where the centipedes could sit for hours and drool over it ( and speak amongst each other about what idiots we are )

Then my son called yesterday to tell me he'd found a an old Ikea artwork - and he had redone it - to make it look like this

hmmm...............I like it honey!
do you remember that painting you were given once for a job?
can I redo that one?
" sure Mom - go to town "

And so I did..................

I first painted it with Gesso ( like a pro )

And I have to tell you there was some trepidation in doing so - not because I felt it had any monetary value but surely it had value of a different kind - someone, after all, created this - and it felt wrong to wipe away their vision with one fell swoop of a brush.
The person was obviously an artist -
but that only lasted for about 25 seconds.
that's what I DO, right?
I reinvent everything - this is just a step away from my furniture makeovers really.
And I don't need a reminder of what boobs are supposed to look like every day of my life anyway -
And graphic details of the Netherlands DO NOT go with the decor in my room -
But mostly I redid it because I just don't like red bandanas....................

OK - so after I put a layer of gesso on it - I painted it blue.............

and here's where my artist tendencies come in handy - look at all the details I painted in here - it wasn't easy

You need a VERY steady hand.....................to get this decal on just right lol

A stick on decal - purchased at the dollar store many many moons ago................because you just never know when you'll need a stick on decal of a chandelier, right?

and VOILA!!!
new artwork -
and please, I beg of you, if anyone recognizes the first photo as some very famous artist -
DO NOT TELL ME ABOUT IT,
Just let me go on in my ignorant bliss doing a happy little dance ( the Hippy Hippy Hop )with what I've created, ok?
It's really best that way, you do not, after all, want to be the reason I finally have a nervous breakdown, do you?
I think it belongs in the Louvre now, myself

What do you think?
Am I nuts?
Some people get upset that I paint wood dressers - I dread to see the reaction I might get from this!
Do I get locked up in Bellevue or do I run back to the dollar store and buy up tons and tons of decals
( they have all different kinds )
I'll let you all decide...............
This next photo is as true to the color as I could get on a photo

So you see, I'm an artist after all - not sure if you realize that Don Mclean wrote this song for me!  ( we dated in the 70's )

"Starry Starry Night..............
Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity, ( true, so true )
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now"

Have an artistic kind of day :)

disclaimer:
I did NOT date Don Mclean..............
