Good morning everyone :)
A couple of days ago I told you I had a furniture week from hell, right?
And I showed you the disaster that happened when I tried to paint my My Coffee Table -
Well there was one other disaster that I'm about to show you, I'm not sure what happened with this one
because I PRIMED it - then actually painted it with Annie Sloan chalk paint - and normally I can paint a dresser in a few hours and have it ready to list that night, hope the calamities are behind me for awhile lol
Ok - so I started off with this gem
and couldn't wait to get started on it
here I was going to do my letter technique ( same one I do for my subway dressers )
Too cute, right - next I painted over it in the prettiest mint green - and then started to carefully remove the stickers.......................
Wow - just loving it - can't wait to paint my stars all over the place - better remove the last two sets of stickers
What the??????????? Really? 2 times in one week? I've done quite a few subway dressers and reverse stencilling and have not seen anything this severe ( just going to chalk it up to Crap Happens )
Suzan says - Johhhhhhhhhnnnnnnnnnnnn
John says - oh oh - don't like the sound of that
Suzan says - It's happened again - I'm ready to quit this whole painting furniture thing
John says - Hold on, I'm coming
John says - Oh my God - CAN YOU PLEASE JUST PAINT FURNITURE WITHOUT ADDING ALL THESE DOO DADS TO EVERYTHING?????????????
John says - I suppose I have to sand this down too?
John says - I may as well just wear the sander on my belt loop
Suzan says - Thanks John - I really do appreciate your help
And here we go again
This time I painted it with my trusty Duck Egg Blue and White combo - and decided to put faded ( by dry brushing ) white stripes on the drawers -
I held my breath putting the tape on let me tell you - and completely stopped breathing when I pulled them off lol but it worked this time and I ended up with this
These drawers are bowed
Which you really can't see in the photos ( the stripes are making an optical illusion? )
I used the same hardware but painted it white - and the sanded them so they look old and chippy
I so wish I was a better photographer - because these pics just don't do this piece justice at all -
And I did a little something something on the inside
I made this as a nursery piece - because there seems to be a big demand for nursery pieces in the last few months -
But we all know how much Murphy loves to play with me, right?
Let's see if he throws his law at me this time!
And in the midst of all this chaos - I decided to to create a little something for John - just to keep harmony - and because he really is so good about helping me out when I mess up
I hung it in his closet so it would be a complete surprise
John says - SUZANNNNNN - can you come here for a second?
Suzan say - coming!
John says - What the hell is this exactly?
Suzan says - I made that for you - isn't it obvious what it is?
John says - no, not at all- and I don't appreciate it either
John says - stay out of my cupboard please
John says - you're driving me insane really
Suzan says - but you said you may as well wear the sander on your belt
and that's the appreciation I get for creating his very own sander harness -
there's some weeks you just can't win
John says - and you can get the freaking knots out too, thank you very much
If anyone wants the tutorial for this handy dandy sander harness just drop me a line - I'll be happy to oblige!
Big hugs
Suzanna Anna Danna

Really like the blue and white stripes. Very sweet.
ReplyDeleteLove the stripes and this will look great in a nursery! The extra touch you added to the drawers is just so sweet! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Stephanie - ( you're a no reply blogger btw)
DeleteHugs,
Suzan
once again you totally made lemonade and the final product looks awesome! love the drawer interiors!
ReplyDeleteI like the final outcome - so relaxing and summer cottage-y looking!
ReplyDeleteWell, sometimes mistakes happen and then, after you find a solution, the final product is actually gorgeous. The dry brushed stripes look really good! The verses inside are a nice touch!
ReplyDeleteI love the quote inside!
ReplyDeleteLove the dresser I think it came out great. The quotes inside are just precious.
ReplyDeleteCynthia
The lyrics inside the drawers is a beautiful idea! Maybe John would use a man purse for the sander. A metro, urban handyman would be very new century Renaissance! ~ Maureen
ReplyDeleteI love the stripes - it is so fresh and beachy looking.... Sometimes messes happen for a reason and you were able to turn that right around into something so beautiful.....What a wonderful feeling...
ReplyDeleteI think I need a john here... Somehow, it doesn't sound right... I mean you're so lucky to have help... I'm on my own when I mess up. I love the stripes on the dresser... And the colour combination is perfect!
ReplyDeletePS: Maybe I should train the cats to use their claws for sanding rather than destroying my carpet!
Beautiful!! The stripes are just perfect and the quotes inside are over the top. You excel at this furniture stuff my friend!
ReplyDeleteI'm shocked that John didn't like his sander harness ~ ;-)
xo
Pat
great job even after the mess up love love love the writing inside the drawers
ReplyDeleteI love how it turned out! I like the second version so much more than the first. And the little poem inside is precious and such a great idea!!! One I'm copying, thank you very much!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I've been getting replys to my comments so I'm thinking I'm only a "no-reply blogger" to you for some reason. Maybe your blog and my blog just aren't BFF's! :-(
Just when you had convinced me to do a dresser with words on it, you hit me with disasters! Please do something twinkle-twinkle, though - I loved the color and the thought of the stars you had planned. The new, improved dresser with the quote is great. I can see this piece being handed down in a family.
ReplyDeleteI will take a handy, dandy sander holster - I think John would look cute wearing this! Did you solve the knotty problem?
Distressed Donna Down Home (Forever Young!)
So adorable! I really do feel your frustration. I hate when things go wrong like that. But you came through it shining like a star!
ReplyDeleteHi Suzzanne This piece is truly beautiful.thanks for showing it.love dee
ReplyDeleteHow frustrating to have to start all over! I love what you did both times, and the poem added to the inside is so perfect.
ReplyDelete~Shanon
For all the frustration you went through, it turned out beautifully! I love the colors and the stripes. So pretty!
ReplyDeleteHUGS
Love the stripes - and the secret message inside the drawers. Adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting Eccentric Leopard! I am your newest follower!
Well you did put one of my all time favorite songs inside the drawer, which was brilliant, and it did turn out cute in spite of all the paint woes, but gosh darn it I just can't believe John would be so unappreciative of his styling sander holder. Most men could only wish their wife would create such thoughtful gifts.
ReplyDelete~Bliss~
Wow, I love the stripes on the dresser. Looks fantastic, especially the song verses. And I've never thought about using stencils like this, I'm going to have to try this out. Thanks so much for stopping by Gwen Moss blog, I'm happy to follow you back,
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Leslie (aka Gwen Moss)
cute! I hate when you put love and effort into something and it flops on you. What was the mint color you used?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing this beauty at the party! Love the writing in the drawers! HUGS
ReplyDeleteI love the colors! And the words inside are such a good idea. Very cute!
ReplyDeleteI came on over cause you visited my blog...Pieces To Treasure. Thank you by the way. I also want to thank you for helping me with the blogger/email thingy you listed at the top of your page. Got mine fixed...not sure what it does...such a newbie!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, on to your post...LOVE LOVE LOVE the blue/white stripes. Happy accident...well, maybe not for you or John...but I love it!!! I've got to get my hands on some chalk paint!!! It's seems all the rage these days!
Happy Favorite Things Thursday!
ReplyDeleteLove to see recycled transformations - its so inspiring. Love the dresser. Im a new Google follower from Katherines Corner.

You know I have weeks like that too whereby I swear I have just lost my touch. They seem to come in spurts like that. Bam...the mojo is gone. THen as soon as it goes, it comes back and I am back to business. It was just your week!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful dresser - I adore the stripes!
Thanks for linking up this week...hope to see you next week at the Autumn Inspiration Linky Party!
Stacey of Embracing Change
It was starting to look so sweet with the twinkle words, but in the end it is perfect! Love the song lyrics inside, such a cute touch.
ReplyDeleteGreat job!!

That turned out really nice! Even with the doo dad mishap :) I love the color and the stripes! I would love if you shared this at my Throwback Thursday party. I hope to see you there! And thanks for sharing :) http://www.hubbymademe.com/throwback-thursday-no-11/
ReplyDeleteOmgosh...this made me wanna cry! That song is one of my favorites, we recently used it in a video tribute to my dad that we lost this past Christmas day. Love how you put it on the inside of the drawers!! What a great idea, how special :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings - Sara
You are so funny. Your conversations sound exactly like mine do with my hubby! I love the makeover. You did a fabulous job. I hate when stuff doesn't work like you want it too, it is so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea to put the verses in the drawer!
ReplyDeleteAnd your comedic love story is the best.
Thanks so much for linking up at I Gotta Create! <3 Christina
Darn, so hoping for a pic of John in his new belt. lol! See what I mean about my tired aching? Love how it turned out! The twinkle, twinkle would have been sweet for a nursery also. Makes ya so mad when stuff like that happens. Tell John to keep that sander handy, I don't think this is going to be the last. lol! Great minds like yours have to goof up now and then. But look, it always turn out fab in the end! Thanks for sharing another great project with SYC.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Jann

ReplyDeleteAMAZING!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quotes inside the drawers are truly inspiring!
Thank you soooo much Crystelle!
DeleteThe never ending saga of John and Suzy! ha ha ha! Where do you get your energy girlfriend?Yet out of the rubble emerges a BEAUTY:) To think all I did was clean up my nasty old dungeon of a basement:)) lol Great job!!
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing dresser! Nicely done!
ReplyDeleteReally amazing, very nicely done, love the twinkle twinkle nursery rhyme. Sorry you had so many painting woes, but the out come was so worth. Thanks for sharing your inspiration with Sunday’s Best – you helped make the party a success!

Tears are welling up...that was such an unexpected touch. We played that song at my husband's funeral as a song for our kids. Such touching lyrics. You don't just paint furniture, you are an artist. Thanks for linking up to Gettin' Krafty.
ReplyDeleteLove the stipes! Beautiful work!
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely idea to put meaningful words in the drawers. It really looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Suzan!!!
ReplyDeleteYes...Another one that I'm just reading now. I love these old dressers and making it a nursery piece was a great idea. The poem on the inside is just beautiful.
I would have loved a piece like this in my nursery, back in the day...way back LOL
