An Oops Makeover

Just a quick ( boring ) post ( because I have to get ready for a corn roast that we've been invited to!!! )

Remember this little table that I picked up for 10.00? ( you can read post HERE )

I looked at this and HATED it - look at my poor little white stripes ( all I can say about this is I was exhausted when I was working on it - a dangerous thing obviously lol )  there was nothing to do except sand the entire top down and start over - in an entirely different direction.......................
but something magical happened in the sanding process - and I ended up stopping when I realized it was exactly how ( I thought ) it was meant to look from the beginning!

I painted out the body of the table in white to contrast the drawer and the bottom shelf -

Except for possibly a little distressing on the legs, it's DONE - on to bigger and better things ( which I'll only work on with the proper amount of sleep!

  1. Susan, Your table is a wonderful paint job. I know a lady , that the colors you chose are her favorites. I hope she sees your blog.Smiles, Susie

  2. Love how something works out in the process of thinking it needed to be changed. It looks great!

  3. LOL- Sometimes on our way to starting over the magic happens. It looks like it did for you! xo Diana

  4. Great job! I'm not one for the heavy distressing but hey, I'm just 1 out of a million, right? :) You are so talented! The white really makes it pop.

  5. GAK ! I hate trips like that ! It's why I never use Google directions. I'm a good navigator so I just work it out old-fashioned like, on a map. And it's so disheartening when it's a much smaller even than you expected. But good for you that you got John to go along. No way would hubby come with me !

  6. I think it looks great all sanded and distressed.Whenever I feel like I have made a mistake it always ends up working to my advantage. And I think your table did too! This looks beautiful! LOVE the colors too!

  7. This looks fantastic! I love the colors and the distressing.

  8. LOL!!! SUzan, you crack me up!!!! I can't believe how much you do, I could never keep painting if I am tired, LOL! I loved the distressed look, it looks great! Great save, HAHAHAHAHAHAAHA!!!
Loved the "Keep calm and carry on"! The other day I bought for me and my friend Kelley (we are market partners) a button that said: Get excited and MAKE THINGS!!!
Please let me know how the corn roast went! I never been to one!

  9. I love the table now that you have sanded it, its very cute. Is the grey Anne Sloan paris grey or did you use something else, I like the grey.I keep wanting to try doing a stencil or stripes on one of my painting projects, was this hard to do?
And get some rest, take sometime for you.
    hugs Tobey

  10. This totally works! Sometimes you think you are on a roll and then you're not. This time, I think you were. ~ Maureen

  11. Don't you love it when that happens? This is definitely the way it's supposed to look! Love it!! Visiting from Debbie-Doos. :)

  12. Hi Suzan! Love what you did with that table! Isn't is cool when things work out like that :)

  13. The sanding made it look awesome!!

  21. this is adorable! i love the colors you used! that teal just pops!

  22. I love it! Isn't it wonderful when something great and unexpected happens to what you think is a nearly unsalvageable mess? I didn't think it was bad to begin with, but we tend to be our own harshest critic. I absolutely love it after it was sanded, though. Great work!

  23. Love love LOVE it! Sometimes the greatest beauty arises out of what seems to be a hopeless mess! As a matter of fact, that's almost the same thing that happened to my little Union Jack table (I posted about it here: )

    1. Thanks so much Kathryn - could not find your table!!!

  35. Wow, I like it a lot!! Hope you will come by and share at Creative Things Thursday.

  36. Looks so much better distressed! Love it. What color/brand is that turquoise??? I love that shade. Can't find one I like. Is is Florence? Or a regular latex.

  37. I would not sand the legs. There is a certain quality about it since you have the distressed area in contrast to the fresh paint look. It compliments it more this way. SO PRETTY! I love it ;)

    1. Thanks so much Michele!!! I agree with leaving the base fresh
