Headboard Makeover for Team Suzan

Good morning everyone !!!

I'm going to be taking a couple of weeks off from IWLTW's ( possibly 3 )because a lot of work goes into them ( A LOT  ) and I really just don't have the time now  with moving day fast approaching...................

So you're stuck with a makeover today :(

John picked this up on Sunday afternoon - and I just couldn't wait to get my hands all over it lol
I was on the fence about buying it - but so many of you thought I should - so I did -

Suzan says - John - do you think you could pick up this headboard?
John says - NO - I DON'T THINK I COULD PICK UP THAT HEADBOARD
John says - I thought you didn't want it?
Suzan says - But a lot of my blogging friends thought I should go for it
John says - Do they all know we're moving in a about a week?
Suzan says- Yes they do - and they still think you should go pick it up for me.
John says - I don't know who's worse - you or them....................
Suzan says - I'm going to tell them that, you know.

LMHO - and for those of you that are on his side half the time - see where it gets you????

As soon as I heard him pull up I ran and got my brush out and was holding it as we walked in the door,
He came in - crouched - and looked behind boxes -
Suzan says - What ARE you doing?
John says - Just checking to make sure none of your blogging friends are on the premises.
John says - You seem to have a team behind you now.
Suzan says - Their all here in spirit, sweetheart
John says - Make sure you tell them I ran and picked this up for you
Suzan says - Of course I will - Thanks!!!

I do believe the man is getting a sense of humor.
I like it.
A.
Lot.

Headboard Makeover - Annie Sloan Paris Grey and Pure White

it sort of reminds me of this one - and in fact is made of the same material - some kind of resin I think
The one below has a coat of polyurethane on top of the chalk paint - and you can see the difference in the color - it's what I'm going to use on this one as well..................

Moving in 9 days - we're both a little frantic at this point.....................

But hey - I managed to get a headboard painted LMHO

Priorities - I seem to have a little problem with that :)

But John made me laugh and that's always a good thing in my world

I may as well just paint myself Paris Grey and White really

Well here we go again - back to my signature colors it seems.....................

I started off with this - and I would apologize for this photo - except I didn't take it - the seller did -
Hey even I can do better than that

Oh oh - looks like I can't actually !!!!!!!!!!

Trust me this was in pretty rough shape - she has been filled - screwed - sanded - glued and hammered
Came out of a college student's dwelling - but I should have had my camera once again - he was in a 120 year old apartment building - falling apart but filled to the brim with architectural beauty...................

I started off with the drawers - Paris Grey ( Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ) on the interiors - with white trim along the outer edges.

I painted the top of the dresser Pure White -and the body of it in Pure Grey
The handles got a fast sweep of white spray paint ( rustoleum ) and when I say a fast sweep I mean I only just quickly sprayed the surface - I wanted to leave some of the dark in there just to antique them a little.
OK - do I sound like I know what I'm talking about?
Hope so - because half of the time I'm trying new techniques and have no idea if they'll turn out like I want them too LMHO...............and then when I write about it I try to come across all expert like :)

My absolute favorite part of French Provincial furniture is the scalloped edging ( and when they have
" serpentine " drawers, well that's just a bonus ) this photo is before I waxed it

paris grey, white, dresser, makeover, chalk paint, annie sloan, before, after

Behind the middle door ( think " Let's make a deal " )
are 3 small drawers - I painted them white - and then for a cute touch I added these
Whenever I paint numbers on drawers I always picture this conversation in a house
" honey - where's the baby's socks?"
" in number 2 sweetheart "
People that take my furniture have to be in love...............them's the rules.

All the drawers should be numbered in my house - including the ones in the kitchen
Now that I think of it - the shelves in the fridge should be numbered too - that would
save me having to go in it every time John's trying to find something
Where's the onions Suzan?
On shelf 2 John
Where's the lemon Suzan
On shelf 1 John

John removed the door so that I could paint thoroughly inside the cabinet - which I NEVER do because some of these older pieces are very fickle - and difficult to put back on

french, provincial, paris grey, white, painted, chalk paint,

When John screws something in - anything really - he does it so tight that it never ever closes again - doors to rooms - he's cracked light switch plates - kitchen cupboard doors - it's ridiculous - at some point don't you realize it's not working?
I make mistakes - I make a ton of mistakes - but I tend to learn from them.

I watch him putting the door back on and he's actually shaking with the force he's applying to it  (and maybe some of you remember the table legs fiasco HERE?)
He's shaking - and turning red - and the sweat is pouring down his face - and it's 3 tiny screws ..................

Suzan says - Whoa big boy - please don't do it so tight
John says - Don't start with me OK?
John says - It's too damn hot to be doing this
John says - I don't need you breathing down my back
Suzan says - Well just remember what happens when you screw things in too tight
John says - It needs to be screwed in tight Suzan - or it won't shut properly
John says - You just do what you do - and leave me alone with what I do
Suzan says - You're making it too tight, just saying..............
John says - There you go, perfect!

Suzan says - ummm - excuse me - but the door won't close
John says - of course it does
John tries
John says - well it's the dresser
Suzan says - it DID close before though
John says - Why don't you go blog about it ?
Suzan says - I'm NOT going to blog about it - but you're going to have to fix it, sorry
Suzan says - About 10 less shakes should do it I think
John says - Buzz off ok?

And if he thinks it too hot to screw 3 tiny little screws into a door - he should try waxing in this heat. I think I lost 10 lbs waxing this thing - it's so humid here.
notcomplainingatallbecauseitwasn'tthatlongagowhenIwasrantingandravingaboutwintertakingsolongtoleave
But it's so damn humid lol
I was still able to buff it a pretty decent shine - even though I have one useless shoulder and the sweat dripping into my eyes basically took the color off my irises................

chalk paint, annie sloan, paris grey, white, french provincial, makeover, painted

this piece is huge - wouldn't it make a great changing table in a nursery?

dresser, french provincial, before, after, chalk paint, annie sloan, paris grey, white,

or a buffet?

or a dresser lol .......................

I don't think I'll ever tire of this combination..................although you may get sick of looking at them

I keep running all over the place taking things to stage the dresser - John's watching T.V.
He ignores me on the first two - by the third.................
John says - what exactly are you doing with all this stuff
Suzan says - staging the dresser
John says - dead serious - Overkill - it's too much Suzan
It takes me a moment before I realize he thinks I'm putting it all on at once

Have a great Friday one and all!!!!!!!!!
Much love

Before/After Dresser - Meet Brigitte!

Good Morning everyone!

Another before and  after................finished last night

french provincial, 70's, vintage, before,

I Sprainted the pulls for contrast

SPRAINTED
Simply Vintageous Encyclopedia of Bloglandia
Verb - action
To Spray Paint.........
e.g. He sprainted his bike.....................& she sprainted the pulls for a dresser redo

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, French Provincial, Painted dresser,

In this photo you can see how shiny a surface you can get with the ASCP wax just by buffing

ASCP, Paris Grey, French Provincial, Vintage, dresser,Painted

dresser, paris grey, ascp, painted

Those curves!  Those legs!  That Frenchiness!  I painted out the trim on the top in white to
" accentuate the positive "
What else could I name her but Brigitte ( as in Bardot )
She is definitely the Brigitte Bardot of dressers............................

painted, dresser, trim, ascp, french provincial, paris grey,

Don't you see the similarities?

Ok - I was a little shy to admit this - but that's not Brigitte - that's actually me - I had John take the photo last night - I'm in my painting clothes as you can see .....................

John says - What are you giggling about now? ( we share an office - and he's over my shoulder like a hawk sometimes - it's very hard to blog with a hawk over your shoulder )
Suzan says - I put a photo of Brigitte Bardot on my post and said it was me
John says - You'd better put a disclaimer on that - you can get in trouble for that

BWWWAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH - Suzan says - Do you think anyone would believe that was me in the photo?
John says - It doesn't matter - you're claiming to be someone you're not - there's laws about that

Talk about taking a fun moment - and dumping a can of paint all over it..................ok ok - I'll show you a real photo of me then.

Talk soon!
Much love,

Disclaimer:  I am neither a Brigitte Bardot NOR a Bo Derek
I'm just a Suzan ( from Simply Vintageous )

Thanks so much to the following ladies for featuring Brigitte!  I'm beyond flattered and thrilled ;)

DAY # 1 - Clients furniture makeover!

Good morning everyone!
First of all - I have to say this client is the NICEST person - spent a perfect 1st day - painting away while we chatted our way through the process - loved the company - loved the transition so far -

This is how it looked when I walked in today...................

All the drop cloths were already down and handles off the furniture - it's little steps like that, that can make me
fall in love with a customer.  Thanks so much April!!!

here's how it looked when I left - of course it's nowhere near finished at this point - but you can at least see the direction it's going in ( check out how it ties in with the fireplace - perfect right ? )

She originally wanted the legs painted the same color as the table top - but I convinced her to go
with the Old White ( which the chairs will also be ) assuring her that I could paint them the same as the table top if it didn't feel right. Wow - doesn't this feel " right " ?

This is going to be gorgeous in her already beautiful home......................
And now I'm off to paint some more of that furniture I got on the weekend -  here's a little update of the headboard!
Here it is in the people's home we bought it from - a nice shade of 70's nicotine

headboard, before, after, ascp, paris grey, vintage, french provincial, ornate

talk about " kicking the habit "

before, after, headboard, french provincial, painted, annie sloan, paris grey, pure white

Is it vain to love something ( in an over the top way ) that you did yourself?
But I would have loved it no matter who did this - so does that make it a little better?

headboard, before, after, paris grey, pure white, french provincial

And that's how my Monday went -
Yours?

I'm so sorry if I can't get back to you as quick as I'd like this week - but my fingers are too busy doing other things!

Much love,

The Painful Beginning

Good Monday Morning Everyone!

I was going through some old posts last night  of furniture to add to a board on Pinterest and nearly peed my pants looking at some of them.
Can you remember starting your first job when you were younger - and not knowing what in God's name you were doing?
Can you remember that feeling of being completely alone in a new world?
Can you remember trying to figure out where you fit in - which group seemed most like you?
Can  you remember trying to look very very busy and efficient when the whole time your brain
was trying frantically to make sense of things that were completely alien and foreign to you?

That's exactly what my first 6 months of blogging were like -
I had no voice - absolutely none -
My posts showed no reflection of my character whatsoever
Flat.
I was struggling to find my place in a world where literally hundreds of thousands of people had got there before me - I'm always late to a party.

So I wrote my posts - I uploaded my photos - and ambled along that way for quite awhile.
No one came.
No one commented.
No one knew I was alive.
AND
then one day it happened
I found my voice
my ridiculous
bizarre
over
the
top
voice
that I was too afraid to use in the beginning
And the magic happened
People actually came by
they commented
they showed so much love that I was overwhelmed
and my blog grew
I feel so connected to every single one of you
that loyally come by day after day
even when I'm overwhelmed and can't get back to you as soon as I should.

We're almost at 700 followers
and that means we're almost at another give away
Unless I just stay at 696 forevah
and that would be so over the moon ok with me!

The below is one of those posts from my anonymous days
I get to repost it because I was anonymous then lol
and I actually may start reposting some of the other things I did
from time to time.

If anyone were to ask me for advice today on blogging
the thing I would shout off the rooftops is this
FIND YOUR OWN VOICE
and use it
every day
It won't be for everybody
Some people won't like your voice
They'll come
and then they'll go
But eventually people will find you
and surprisingly they'll like your voice
and for the most part they are the one's who
stay
for those of you that have stayed I can't tell you how very dear you've become to me
XXX

I also want to give a shout out to Maryann from  Power of Paint
who has been kind enough to feature me a few times - and has featured me again today
Visit her site if you aren't already following her - she's one of my go-to's.

And lastly

Here's a post from the old days - the dressers pretty nice
the post is boring as hell lol
( and I had to redo all the photos to watermark them because I had no idea how to do that back in the day )
and the collage?
I made that up today also lol

Shabby, Dresser, White, Gray, Appliques, distressing

The dresser was first painted Old White - and then Paris Grey was lightly dry brushed over the surface
to give it layered old " worn " look

shabby, gray, white, layered colors,

shabby, dresser, gray, white, detailing

legs, details, gray, white, dresser

Such beautiful details - and the colors make the details stand out - I painted the
wooden handles in both of the colors - white - then the gray in the middle - and
then sanded them to expose some of the original wood color.  Hope she
sells as quick as the last one, do not want to have to look at her for too long or
I may never be able to say goodbye ;(

xxx

oops - here is the before shot - minus the drawers because I had already gotten
my greedy hands on the paint before I remembered!!

and this is what the drawers looked like - I was still working on the middle one in this pic - lol

shabby, details,legs,knobs,gray,white,layering paint,dresser

Con te Patiro ( Time to say Goodbye )

Adios - So long - Arrivederci - Au Revoir ....................

I bought this sideboard last year - because I fell in love with the scale of it - it's not a large one so could accommodate any space - kitchen or dining room -
and somehow through one of our infamous conversations I ended up deciding to keep it for our office
The size worked perfectly for our small space - and was great storage ( especially being able to hide
messy papers behind the cupboards ) KEEP IN MIND - John did not want to keep this - at all.

Terrible photos I know ( even worse than usual lol ) but those were the days of taking pics with my cell phone ( when I felt like a genius just being able to download them )

Ok - so last week I bought another table set - remember this?

and decided that the sideboard would work with it........................so here we go

Suzan says - John could you help me take the sideboard out of the office?
John says - Why?
Suzan says - I'm going to paint it to match the table and sell it as a set
John says - They don't even look alike - they're NOT a set at all
Suzan says - John - could  you help me take the sideboard out of the office?
John says - But it works in there.......................
Suzan says - You argued with me to put it in there in the first place - told me it was ridiculous
to have a sideboard in an office - so..................... you argue with me to put it in there - and now
you're going to argue with me take it out of there?
John says - I just don't understand why you're constantly moving things - it doesn't make sense, where are we going to put everything that's in it?
Suzan says - John could you help me take the sideboard out of the office?
Suzan says - So I can SELL it? ( those are usually the magical words )

I used ASCP Old white on the top - and Paris Gray on the body -
The back board was destroyed - we had to change it completely so I took advantage and painted it before we put the new piece on

Isn't practice suppose to make perfect?
My ( ahem ) photography skills seem to be getting worse - but I'm really far too lazy today to rectify it - sorry about that :) - the blue on the back piece is the one of the colors I chose for the My Color by Pantone paint party I participated in last month.

I painted the top Paris Gray - then White Washed it to give it a " farmhouse" type of finish - and lastly dry brushed some more white and gray on the surface....................

Transferred a laurel leaf ( from Graphics Fairy ) on either side

and called her done!

Suzan says - John, can you help me bring the armoire out of the bedroom and into the office?
John says - You've got to be kidding me?
Suzan says - Well we have to replace the sideboard with something, now don't we?

Thanks John!!!
Ok I'm off to finish the table and chairs now folks -
I Have to do 3 more of these

Suzan says - JOHN?
John says - Just pretend I'm not here ok?  PLEASE just pretend I'm not here!
