Painted Fireplace Unit !

Good morning everyone !

I'm done
or IT'S done
And this just may be the year of Black for me or charcoal - I think I may be done with whites for awhile !
I'm loving the Restoration Hardware look of this piece :)
( I see a red door and I want to paint it black )
Am I aging myself again?

Black distressed furniture

I originally bought this to make as a built in for the dining room - but we're not ready to tackle that room yet so decided to keep it in the 3 season porch for the rest of the winter.

However - I once again had a change of heart

Suzan says - I'm thinking this piece would be perfect for the den
John says - WHAT?
John says - We already installed a mantel that you had to have in there
Suzan says - So what?  That can easily be uninstalled !
John says - Where the hell are you going to put that one?
Suzan says - Maybe in the dining room when we finish it !
Suzan says - AND I'm not even sure if I want it there - I just want to see it there first
John says - And if you don't like it - we have to drag it back out and reinstall the other one?
Suzan says - Something like that, yeah
John says - IT'S AN INSANE ASYLUM - I'M TELLING YOU I COULD HAVE YOU COMMITTED
John says - I'm NOT moving things around just to see if it works - who the hell does that ?
John says - You always say I have no vision - what's happened to yours all of sudden?
John says - This thing weighs a ton
John says - Yadda Yadda Yad.............................

I actually waited till he went out - and started the process on my own -
I disassembled the mantel

and brought the beast in on my own

after taking off the back piece - removing the doors - and taking the fireplace insert out so that I could actually move it ( inch by painful inch )

and guess what?

It's staying !
( thank God - because I really didn't want to take it back out and drag the mantel back in - this painting heavy furniture business is exhausting I tell ya ! )

But it fits the room perfectly - especially against the plank wall

Painted Black and Distressed

It has a pull out shelf which is such a bonus - the room is so tiny that I'm sure this will be used !
( it still needs another coat of paint on that shelf - I wasn't going to show you but what the .................. )

I painted the interior with chalkboard paint - and stencilled a design on it with a chalk pen

It's what this room needed - though I didn't know it until I actually saw it in there

Painted, black, distressed

John says - It looks like a rain forest in here
John says - Why in God's name are there tree limbs on the wall?
Suzan says - I was going to hang the Picasso but I couldn't find it anywhere
Suzan says - IF YOU WANT TO SIT IN HERE AND WATCH HOCKEY GAMES - YOU HAVE TO GIVE ME AT LEAST ONE COMPLIMENT ON THIS THING !!!!!!!!!!!
John says - I'm going to look for a monkey to hang off one of them.
Suzan says - Could you get me a sock monkey?  I LOVE them

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone !

Much love
Me

My Painted Stone Fireplace

Well I did it - I fought myself over this one for 2 months - I really did - and had it been a beautiful stone fireplace I would never have touched it - but it was U.G.L.Y - seriously - the center is concaved the rocks are in awful shape - and it was time for an update.

so again - if you missed yesterday's post - here's what it looked like

and here's what it looks like today....................I'm especially pleased that the " rocks " don't stand out like tons of separate rocks - it looks much more cohesive now
It went from Darth Vadar ( I was afraid to be in the room alone with it ) to Snow White - with a few swipes of a brush :)

The hardest part of all was painting the bottom edging against the freshly stained floors - I was a nervous wreck to be honest with you - but not one drop landed on the floor
I'll eventually build a boxed hearth - because this is so off balanced I can't really lay anything on it.

I still have to paint that metal surround edging - it's going black because that's easiest and that pitiful excuse for a mantel will be changed ( it's just a piece of mdf - I may put skirting on it to make it look more substantial and see how that works )  I had an old piece of metal scroll work that I placed in the middle - ( actually where the rock is concave ) it hung outside in the last place so had to dig through my garden decor boxes to find it..............that probably took longer than painting the fire place lol

For now I have photos of my 2 favorite cities - New York and Paris - resting on it
and the flowers John brought home ( you can read about that fiasco HERE )

What do you think ?
Are you horrified that I painted it ?
Or do you think it's an improvement ?

Just so you all know - John loves it - so there'll be no John says - Suzan says for this post lol
You can see yesterday's post HERE to see the brick fireplace I painted in my last home - and some
 gorgeous stone fireplaces too :)

Just on a side note - there's a huge cat that just ran by my window - ( it's 2 in the morning )
I'm hoping he's not a stray - poor thing - it's so cold out there - but wow - he's HUGE -
I'm wondering if he's eating all the mice that got the boot from this place when we bought it?

Have a great first day of the week all :)
