White washed outdoor dining table

Remember the table we got for 50.00?

It now looks like this

I decided to give a quick " white wash " using ASCP Pure white - and water - half and half to be precise.......( the table had to be sanded down to unify the main part and the leaves and I was too lazy )

When applying the mixture I paint very lightly - going heavier in some areas so that it looks " worn "  in some places..................
It's one of my favorite methods of painting to be honest with you -
First of all it's much cheaper since you use half the paint
Secondly it's a very natural weathered look.............
And thirdly?
It took 10 minutes ( IF ) to paint the entire piece !
I still have to put a couple of coats of polyurethane ( water based )  on it for protection

It's not staying in this corner - but I'm thinking I need a table for here too,  most definitely !

I also have some nice big chunky legs I'll be replacing these with at some point -

The bench was done at least 7 years ago in layers of greys - it's only just now maybe needing a little freshening up - it's been outside covered in snow for 7 winters too - so not too bad

As you can see I have my fairy lights in the tree - there was quite the conversation about digging out my Christmas boxes - but I'll save that for another post ( my ears may or may not be permanently damaged - only time will tell )
Ummmmm - I can see you over there John - watching my every move like a hawk - and the Christmas lights are S.T.A.Y.I.N.G.

But it was worth my world - fairy lights make everything prettier

and so does white paint

Now I have to figure out what to do with this - which magically appeared in my sink..............and which I've never cooked in my life !

John says - Can you go blog someone and ask them how to make Rhubarb pie?

But my ears are still damaged so I can't quite hear what he's asking of me ......................he didn't just ask me to BLOG SOMEONE did he?  LMHO - he has no idea what a blog is - absolutely none

Have a wonderful Thursday everyone !

  1. Love the table, Suzan. I`ve also used the white wash metod, and it`s so easy. Beautiful pictures.

    Hugs from here

  2. Ooh ooh Bliss posted rhubarb pie the other day. Enjoy John, I think it will taste especially lovely on your gorgeous table under the fairy light.

  3. Your table looks great Suzan. And I really love the fairy lights :) This looks like a great place to relax. Good luck with that pie!

  4. I LOVE the table! That's exactly what I'd like for our new deck. The only thing is I need a place to store something that big all winter and my old round cedar one can stay outside as it has for the past 30 years. Maybe I should invest in a can of ASCP and paint my table. I love the fairy lights and the beautiful bench. It all looks perfect and a nice rhubarb crumble a la mode and a glass of rhubarb punch would be perfect when eaten in your magical garden. Oh and strawberry rhubarb pie. Sorry, I don't make pie or punch but have a great recipe for crumble. Have a lovely day in your garden, or the kitchen baking. :) xo

  5. it looks beautiful!!!!!! Why didn't you tell HIM to blog someone for a recipe, lol,

  6. It's perfect Suzan! I love the twinkle lights and you're right, they make everything prettier! What a lovely little spot to dine. I've never cooked rhubarb either but I have seen some recipes online that sounded pretty tasty. Good luck with it.

    Blessings, Vicky

  7. Suzan it is so pretty. I love the re love of this table. I think you need to get on pinterest for the rhubarb. I have had strawberry rhubarb pie and it was so delish! Love love love the table.

  8. Love the table Suzan... such an easy refresh!
Your yard looks lovely... enjoy!! V

  9. Ooo, so pretty! Perfect look, of course. And yes, fairy lights are the finishing touch! Don't know a thing about rhubarb...good luck!

  10. I’m so happy to be visiting you, I feel like I’ve just walked into the most beautiful fairy garden! I have to say I just love the lights, so magical. Your table is awesome whitewashed, amazing what a little paint will do. I’m your latest follower. Happy Summer.............

  11. OMG! Rhubarb too in your garden?! You little stinker, you are so lucky to have a great garden. The joke here is all the neighbours tell me she was out gardening here all the time. What a shame to let it all go to ruin when she couldn't keep it up. Never was interested in having someone come to keep it up either. As you would say via a song, 'Oh, what a crying shame..."

  12. P.s. love your table and I read Hubs the bit about the yelling.... deja vue for here too! Put strawberries in with the rhubarb, cuts the tang a bit. I ate it raw dipped in sugar as a snack when I was a kid. Enjoy!

  13. It and your garden look great / don't just make a rhubarb's better if you do strawberry-rhubarb or even strawberry / rhubarb / apple pie. :)

  14. Suzan, tell John that they're only called "Christmas lights" in December! My mom used to make rhubarb pie, but since we live in Texas, you can't get it fresh, so she always bought it frozen at the air force commissary. I'm sure there are plenty of recipes online. Or you can BLOG somebody! BWAHAHAHAHAHA !

Cecilia, we don't know nuttin' about rhubarb cuz it's a Yankee thang. :-)

  15. Wow, great job on the refinish and I love the vignette on the table as well! It looks perfect in its surroundings.

  16. Bliss cooks rhubarb!
Looks like you're ready for the party- everything looks so nice and fresh. I'm surprised that you didn't wrap those lights around his neck. Lol

  17. Haha. Blog someone. I hope you find the recipe. I love your table and the fairy lights.

  18. Not only is your table and bench amazing...but your back yard is beautiful!!! I didn't know you had a pool! Lucky girl! You have created such a wonderful retreat back there, Suzan. ♥ Now.....go "blog" someone about that rhubarb pie. lol

    xoxo laurie

  19. Love your table and the fairy lights!!

  20. The table looks great. And that bench is awesome with it's weathered grey look.

As for the rhubarb - cut it up, throw it in some freezer bags and save it for a wintery day when you can surprise John with a summery pie.

    1. Thanks so much Heather ( and that's exactly what I did with the rhubarb lol )

  21. It turned out beautiful. I think we should probably eat outside tonight! Darn, I was gonna blog you for a good rhubarb recipe but I guess I will have to wait until you blog someone else!
