Fairy Lights

I bought 2 packs of them  ....................for the garden

But the copper wire is so thin that I'm afraid the Squirrels will use it as floss
( they've eaten through most of my regular wire Christmas lights out there )

And so they ended up in a beverage dispenser that sits on the kitchen counter - creating the prettiest
accent lighting :)
They may end up outside after all - in a glass container - I'll beat those squirrels at their game if it's the last thing I do lol

Meanwhile I've been painting ( white washing ) the fence planks inside the outdoor " dining " area

This is how it looked

Though it doesn't show so much in the photos - the wood was a really ugly orange color for some reason
All the other planks surrounding the yard have aged beautifully..................

This is where I'm going with it

I hope it lasts because like Tom Sawyer I'm never doing it again

I'm trying to talk John into making me a faux fireplace to put against that " wall "

There's conversations I CANNOT repeat over that - but I think he may do it :)

You know a place to keep a beverage bottle filled with fairy lights lol

( DIY Fireplace post HERE )

Hope you have a wonderful day -
They're calling for rain for most of this week - blah - just when we were really getting started outside.

Big hugs,
Me

  1. Yeah, we're getting that same weather. I love the fairy lights! I've always liked little white lights and have them up in 3 rooms of the house. They just bring a little extra cheer. Good luck with the fireplace.

  3. What? Fairy lights? Why haven't I seen those anywhere? Oh- could be because I never GO anywhere! That back board looks great now that you washed it. It probably doesn't get the sun and exposure the rest of the fence does-so hasn't aged the same. xo Diana

  4. Your squirrels sound menacing...or maybe just hungry? I once had a big bag of nuts left over after xmas. I told my mom I was going to pile them out by the trees and enjoy watching the squirrels take them over the weeks. She went home and got her leftover nuts to add to mine so we could really enjoy the sight. So, I put them out that day and she came back the next day to watch with me...and when we looked out ALL the nuts were gone! Those devils took them all the night before. Wonder if "they" enjoyed "watching" me lug them out and pile them up. Imagine their conversation.

  6. LOL! He MUST make you a mantel for out there. I love those lights...I use them everywhere but I haven't used them in a beverage dispenser. They do make the sweetest light.

  7. Where did you get those fairy lights - they look terrific. I would like to get some for my patio.
Good luck with your fireplace mantle.
    Have a great week Suzan.

  8. I love the looks of the Fairy lights.
    Now, to stop your squirrels;
    First; Get yourself a cougar or other killing machine or just put a life sized cardboard cut out of David Bowie in the yard, that should scare em! :}

There's a spray called Bitter Barrier that is suppose to keep critters from chewing. Make a cayenne pepper spray and try spraying the wires and plugs as a deterrent. I've heard that they chew off the plug ends for acorns. You would have to reapply after a rain, but, eventually I think you'll get the desired results. Dusting all of the lines with Hot pepper. It won't harm the squirrels, it just teaches them not to eat the seed (put on birdseed if you don't want the squirrels to eat the seed) or in your case chew on the wires.

Could always put out bird food, broken corn and sunflower seeds, plenty enough for the birds and squirrels to share.

  10. Ooo, fairy lights! Pretty. :-) Where did you find them? And oh yes, tell John he must build you a faux mantel! We insist! Lol. I like the lights in the bottles. We've been getting decent rain too. I'm not complaining because I know Summer will be hot and dry but I know how you feel. I get very antsy to be outside after winter and don't want to be stuck inside. Have a wonderful week regardless of the weather - maybe John can build your mantel. :D

  11. Those are cute fairy lights. It's too bad about the squirrels and how like like to feast on them. I remember hearing that the lights on the large trees in downtown Fredericton were eaten by squirrels. They would actually eat the bulbs! We've never had a problem here. I hope you get your outdoor mantel/fireplace. :) Rain coming tonight and tomorrow here too. Lots of it! Then a not so nice rest of the week. :(

  13. Susan,
I never head of the fairy lights. Where did you get them....love them they are beautiful. Love what you're doing to the backboard.

  14. I bought a set of those lights and love them. Unfortunately, the cats seem to love them, too, and keep chewing on the wire. I have no idea why but have had many discussions (okay screaming fits) over it. Not sure who's winning the battle. Love the paint treatment on the boards. That's my favourite kind of painting project.

  15. Your lights are very festive in the jar. A bunch of those would be so much fun. We had some for the Christmas trees, because they run on batteries; it just felt safer with a live tree in the desert. My daughter's cat chomped right through the ones that were in her room. The main part still works, though shorter; I guess because they are battery operated. She also likes to put the lights in a lantern.

  16. I'll add to the chorus - - love the fairy lights and where do you purchase? Are they battery operated? We also have evil vicious squirrels who like to eat all the young shoots and dig up the bulbs. I have lots of very spicy dirt that sometimes sends them scurrying away. Problem is that neighbors two doors out put out shell peanuts for the damn things!!!!

  22. Fairy lights in a bottle, what could be more magical than that? I love this idea! I have several red lanterns that would look great all lit up inside with fairy lights. I could use them on a picnic tabletop all summer. Thanks for the inspiration!!

  23. I bought some fairy lights at Christmas and but have since packed them away.... I didn't think how nice they could look for Speing and Summer. Also realized I frequently click on your posts in link parties and found out I'm not following you! Just added you to my bloglovin feed!

  24. Hi Suzan...Love the fairy lights. Where did you buy them? Never heard of them before, certainly not around here. Just curious. Don't you just loathe squirrels? They eat everything around here...bird seed, new flower bulbs, plants, you name it. Impossible to eradicate them. I poured cayenne pepper all over our plants and they STILL ate them. Brother. Susan
