Her Crowning Glory ( and another one arrived )

Good morning all!

I finally finished the mirror that goes with the princess

chalk paint, custom color, creating, duck egg, old white, dresser, princess, antique

I had this old mirror that I've tried to imagine on many many pieces - but it was usually just a little too large
( this dresser is wider then it appears )

Suzan says - John where's that shield shaped mirror
John says - Aw come on - you're not going to stick that on top of this dresser?
John says - You'll ruin it
John says - I don't know why you bought it - it looks like a horses A$$
Suzan says - can you bring it upstairs please?

Mirror, dresser, chalk paint, white, dresser, makeover

Now those of you with eyes that actually work - will notice the 2 sides are not the same on the bottom part of my mirror -
Being someone who's eyes DO NOT work - I never noticed it - even as I painted it - I never noticed it until the next day actually -
How is that possible, you ask?
I don't have a clue - but it's a little scary, don't you think?

It was a very quick fix - John sawed off some wood on one side to make them the same...........

chalk paint, mirror, before, after, makeover, dresser, princess

ahhh that's better - now what do you think - I personally think it looks like a crown
and not what John thinks at all - who's on my side on this one?

duck egg blue, antique, makeover, chalk paint, montreal

and we picked up this pretty little thing

As I type this I haven't seen it in person yet -
but I couldn't resist...............

Have a great Thursday - one and all!
Much love,

Suzan

If he were a Carpenter

Thanks so much to Rooted in Thyme for the feature!!!

Hi Everyone!
Remember this pile of pallet wood I was supposed to make my son artwork from?

Well Mama got greedy - and decided to use it for herself ( don't worry Gordie - I promise I'll make you something - scout's honor - just not THIS week )

Well progress in the bedroom continues -
We have a very small master - very very small - so everything has to be stragically placed to optimize space.
I've always liked having a bench at the foot of the bed - but just couldn't make it work in this house - without walking around with black and blue legs from smashing into it constantly.
After walking by this pallet wood for a few days, an idea started forming in my head - what if we ( I use "we" very loosely in this case ) could make a custom piece - very narrow - but still a BENCH???

Suzan says - John, do you think you could make me a bench for the foot of the bed?
John says - No Suzan, I cannot, I'm not a carpenter
Suzan says - How hard can it be to do?
John says - Very hard - if you've never done it before,
Suzan says - Oh but it's nothing really - just a few planks of wood - and some more wood for legs - there's nothing to it really
John says - So you make one
Suzan says - I'VE PAINTED THE FLOOR - I'VE PAINTED OUT FURNITURE - CAN'T YOU JUST SAW UP A COUPLE OF PIECES OF WOOD?
John says - Listen to me carefully, I'M NOT A CARPENTER
Suzan says - But it doesn't TAKE a carpenter to make a little bitty bench -
Suzan says - AND it doesn't have to be functional - it's not to actually sit on
John says - Well what the hell is the point then?  Just to look at ?
Suzan says - Yes - just to look at, it would make my heart so happy just to have a little bench to LOOK at.

That night John started working on one -
Look what he made!!!
Keep in mind he has never built anything before - EVER.

Pallet board, DIY, Bench, White wash

It's rustic - and shabby - and perfectly imperfect - and fits exactly how I thought it would.

bench, pallet boards, white washed,

Oh oh, there's some space beneath the bench - can't have any of that!
( remember, small room, have to utilize every square inch )

Does anyone remember this? ( if not you can find it HERE )
It was an old wooden crate that I picked up for 5.00 last summer - I painted it white and stencilled it AND

DIY, Parisien address, storage box, white washed

it fits under the bench like it was meant to be there - and gives me more storage

Bench, diy, pallet wood, white,

I love that I have somewhere to place a few books

I dry brushed it white - with a little blue here and there - and for 5 dollars I have a bench and storage!

Suzan says - Do you think you could build me a little bookshelf
John says - Relax. I think you're overestimating my abilities here.
John says - And whatever you do - DON'T SIT ON THAT BENCH.................
John says - I TOLD you, I'm not a carpenter
Suzan says - Oh but John, I beg to differ.......................

DIY, Bench, white, pallet wood,

Oh yes, you're a carpenter

( and I am his lady)
At this rate maybe I'll get him to build us a house....................
I mean how hard can it be to do?

Transfer Schmansfer

Here's my first feeble attempt at transferring an image - and I say feeble because it took me far too long to do this - and keep in mind the lettering is stencilled - I ONLY TRANSFERRED THE LAUREL WREATH LOL - and it took me like forEVAH

The stencilled lettering is the same as the one on my butcher block island -

I'm really not sure how I feel about it - looks a little blah, right? Missing something-something?

Especially when you see this from Kristi

http://4theloveofwood.blogspot.ca/2012/01/articles-de-paris-french-dressing-chest.html
if you click on the above she gives a fantastic tutorial on transferring images on to furniture -
and makes it sound easy - so take a look at her dresser one last time - the details on that image are amazing

and then my itsy bitsy laurel wreath again

I need practice - and as much as I love doing what I do, I am not, alas, a very patient person - in fact I have very little patience period - I get an idea in my head and I want to get it there pronto - ( that's why I always take photos before my furniture is completely finished - always - I can't wait for the paint to dry ) and this process takes patience, believe me.

I can't think of a single thing I do leisurely really - I whip through the house cleaning - I prepare my meals quickly - I paint quickly - I even read an entire book in a ridiculously fast amount of time. When we go for walks - I don't know how to "stroll".  I've mastered multi tasking down to a complete art and don't even understand the concept of stopping to smell the roses.  I can't  "lay" in the bathtub and absorb that luxury - I jump in while the water is running and am basically ready to jump out once it's filled.  I'm wrapping a towel around me while bending down to get the Vim out to clean the tub.
And though I was always in a hurry - menopause seems to take all your vices and magnify them ( not your virtues unfortunately - they seem to diminish during this process ) so I'm like some sort of manic mama -
And really, aren't you supposed to slow down as you age?

For me?  I think I'm best to stick to free hand and stencilling for now, lol
Unless I can figure out a way to transfer the image with one hand - and wax or paint another piece with the other...............................

Both images are from the incredible  GRAPHICS FAIRY - where there are tons and tons of free transferable images................

Paint colors used ASCP - Paris Grey - and Pure White

XOXOXO
Suzan
