The LAZY fix for very damaged Veneer!!!

Ok it's summertime in Montreal - and that means freaking humidity levels like you can't believe -
which also means my energy level is not where it should be - plus I'm impatient and really
don't enjoy the restoration part of fixing older furniture - I'm in too much of a hurry to get to the
creative part!!!

I had a horrible experience with damaged veneer once upon a time - you can read about it HERE
That post was before I knew about bookmarking - and not having dates show up on my photos
but you can at least see what I went through trying to fix veneer.
For all you bloggers who say removing veneer is easy - peasy.
YOU LIE
or I just don't have the knack for it - ok - let's go with that one - because I definitely DON'T have
the knack for it...............

I just took another piece out of storage ( the unit is finally emptying out ) and looked at the damage and
thought " well that's nothing "  " I can very easily just fill that and be done with it

One time, long ago, a dentist told me I had a pin point cavity that had to be dealt with - the operative word being PIN POINT - by the time he was finished drilling and cleaning and prepping the tooth, I could stick half my tongue in it..............
That's kind of what happened here because we can definitely call this a pin point damage, right?

I would have made a great dentist I think.......................

Suzan says - I have a easy fix for this John
John says - WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO THE DRESSER????
Suzan says - It's like Dentistry you know - I had to clean all the surrounding area - it was all loose
John says - It was like Dentistry?
Suzan says - Never mind - it's too complicated to go into all the details - but it had to be done, trust me
Suzan says - You know that wood we use to give dressers new drawer bottoms?
Suzan says - Can you just cut me 2 panels to slide over the damaged tooth panels?

and like any Dentist I gave the crappy part of to my Dental Assistant................
I happen to have a very good one

At this point you could even stain it ( you can't do with filler )

It still needs to be glued down and nailed along the edges for extra strength - but voila - this piece can now proudly " smile " and not be ashamed..................

John says - I'm still laughing over you comparing yourself to a Dentist - that beats all
Suzan says - Oh be quiet - it's very similar - I clean - I fill cavities - I work with veneers.....................and then I polish.  ( hell I've even performed a root canal on a piece or 2 now that I think of it )
John roars......................

But the more I think of it, I'm going to have John cancel his next Dentist appointment for a cleaning -
and try out my newest tool

It's just a matter of following the directions after all

I'll let you know how that works out.....................but I'm thinking of engraving a little heart on his front tooth

Stay tuned - I'll have the makeover post of this dresser up soon!
Have a great day all
