And on the 7th day she rested..................

John worked for 2 hours sanding the top of this vintage dresser - but here she is
All done....................and ready to go

Before

After

I thought stripes would look to busy on all the drawers so decided
to only do the 2 top ones for a little extra detail

love the details on the bottom

I " wrapped " the stripes around the perimeter of the drawers

I have never worked on a piece this solid - this will last another 200 years, definitely!

And with that I am taking a day off - nary a paint brush or sand paper - or tape will
touch my fingers for the next 24 hours..................
It's so bloody humid here that I'm sure had I used any other paint than ASCP it would
still be wet - but even with these extremely high temperatures the drying time was the same
as always - 1 hour - amazing!

Coming out of storage.................

The pieces just keep getting heavier and heavier - ( or I just keep getting older and older )
but this dresser is hard to even budge, let alone move..................even with the drawers out -
This is so solidly built it's unbelievable...................and see that ugly ugly mirror?  It's even uglier
in person - and cannot be sold with the dresser because of the big crack - so I will eventually
have that cut down to fit another project I am working on.  Even the mirror is thicker than any
mirror I've ever seen -
For some reason when I removed it from the back my legs went so weak I thought they
were going to give out on me - the same feeling I have when I am standing at a very great height,
it felt like vertigo - strange...................it was so heavy I was afraid of it falling and severing a leg
or 2..........................

But I just love the details on this one - and I think it has great potential................

Here's what I did with the mirror
First of all when I turned it around to remove the mirror there was this WOOD backing on it
PERFECT for turning into a chalk board - no buying a pc of plywood and trying to cut it to size

UGLY

whoever designed this mirror and thought those holes were cute must have been on drugs.................
they look like a mirror rash.....................so had to fill them up before doing anything else
and then gave it 2 coats of ASCP old white.

And it still never amazes me after all this time what paint can do.............

and here's where the fun part started
I had a little bit of chalkboard paint left over from painting the back piece - so I dry brushed
it onto the frame and ended up with this

one last time?

Avant

Apres

aged and dirtied and antiqued
vintage mirror transformed!!!

better, n'est pas?

Courtney from French Country Cottage inspired me to do this one - and she has a great
tutorial on them..............Merci Courtney!

I'm off now to paint the dresser -
Have a wonderful Friday night everyone - mine will include some of this

For medicinal purposes don't you know - I paint better with 70's music playing ( sometimes blasting )
and a glass of this beside me..................
Hoya De Cadenas ( a spanish wine if anyone is interested - the red is delish - but because it's so hot
and humid I'm going to try the rose...............)
And why is it that wine tastes soooo much better after 50???

And if you can, pls send as many cyber hugs to Pat ( from http://gypsyheartandsoul.blogspot.ca/ )
who very recently has lost 2 good friends -
1 is dibilitating.
2?
Impossible.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anybody ever seen handles installed this way? ( inside of the drawer ) that is not a screw in
the middle - it's looks like a rivet

this is on the inside - where you would normally see a screw or a bolt - I've never seen this in my life -
the drawers are also the thickest I have ever seen - at least 2 inches wide

that's not just a "lip" of the drawer front - it's the actual drawer front - THICK -

and the pulls are so pretty that I want to spray paint ( spraint, remember that, lol ) them

sorry for such crappy photos - but my batteries are running low so the camera keeps shutting
down - I'm snapping these as fast as I can, lol

Anyways - I tried using a wrench - I've even tried pliers - they don't budge - this particular
piece of furniture is Fine High End furniture - and it's like they were attached for life - has
anyone had experience with this?

I so don't want to try to paint around these.............................
But if I have to I'll do what Annie Sloan does and simply paint the drawers and handles all together:(((

Anyone? Sending this message out to the universe in hopes someone out there can help me out!!!

XXX

oh - and I'm going to share another one of my OCD patterns - has anyone ever noticed that I always
put 3 x's for my kisses?  Or that I always use 3 exclamation points? or 3 frowns or 3 smiles?
that's because I have 3 kids - can you believe that??? ( ha ha ha )
I try to put 1 or 2 sometimes and simply can't do it...................

And why would I share that with anyone?
Some things you can be buried with and no one would ever be the wiser
Here's to making all of you just a little bit wiser,

;)))

Once upon a time there was an ugly armoire

Meet Patience, everyone!!!

That stood in an old second hand shop window - filled with filthy plastic Elvis Presley paraphernalia
How much is that Armoire in the window ( you know the tune of that song, right? ) the lady sang out.
The Armoire's heart began beating - could this be the one?  Would someone finally be taking her
home and show her a little love?  Or would this be another disappointing window shopper -
Wait a minute.....................she's negotiating....................now she's having a discussion with her
better half about how they can actually get me home.........................AND YES................money
is being transferred between hands......................

  MY NEW APPLIQUES!!!

MY PAINTED DETAILS

I'VE BEEN MONOGRAMMED - I'M HERE TO STAY!!!

MY CROWNING GLORY!

MY LEGS HAVE BEEN WAXED!!!  AREN'T THEY SEXY?

EVERY LADY NEEDS A LITTLE BLING

MY SKIRT

AND I'M DONE!!!
I FEEL PRETTY - AND WITTY AND -

OK BE QUIET ALREADY -  YOU'RE AN ARMOIRE, NOT MY OFFSPRING.

The End.....................

BTW - bought this last summer and just got around to finishing it now so she does have patience.
And that is what she will be known as from here on in...............
No wonder she's singing

XXX

this is too hilarious - because I giggle sometimes when I write up my posts - and so I just read the post to John thinking it was cute -  he actually put his head in his hands and shook it and then dead serious he said to me " I think you're off the wall, you know - what the hell kind of post is that?"

It's my kind of post John, it's mine..........................

BACKGAMMON.............anyone?

I love backgammon - so when John found this up the street in the garbagio (oh - he's come a long way baby)
I thought it looked like the perfect dimensions for my favourite game.

almost forgot the before picture ( again) it's a pretty typical end table - it had a handle on it for a "faux" drawer - which I removed and then filled the holes.

now I am lousy at math - really really lousy - ( except for problem solving ) when it comes to measuring and trying to figure out distances and how many and how far apart lines should be I am terrible - but I thought maybe I could figure this one out....................

1st step - this particular piece I primed even though I was using ASCP - I wanted more white coming through than wood.
2nd step - I started measuring

I made sure I had 2 inches at the bottom of each triangle - and then 2 inch spaces at the points
on top - except for the 2 end points ( they are 1 inch ) it's far from perfect - some of the points don't
match up on the player and opponents sides but they're close enough I think.
Once all of that was done - I started taping.................

The body of the board is done in ASCP Versailles - the pink triangles are Antoinette

Once they were dry - I removed the tape - and this is what this step looked like completed

next I taped the alternate triangles in ASCP cream

I am loving this - think I'm going to be on the lookout for more of these tables.................
A little bit of sanding and distressing and it became this

I stencilled the word Backgammon on the front ( in case people didn't realize what this is lol )
and painted the legs and sides with a mix of Versailles and Old White - 2 parts old white
and 1 part Versailles -and Voila - easy peasy ( I hate that term - but it was surprisingly easy )
NOTE: when you are trying to go a light color with ASCP - it usually takes 2 parts of white
to 1 part of the original color - 50/50 does not seem to make much of a difference.

wouldn't this look adorable in someone's country place - with 2 white wicker chairs?
and it's the perfect height for playing - far better than placing the board game on a
regular table where your arms are too " high"

it went from this - sitting in the garbage

to this in a relatively short time - another perfectly good piece of vintage furniture saved from
the landfill....................

hmmm, now I'm looking at this and thinking I need to apply some dark wax to this - but other
than that she's done :)))))

Backgammon, anyone?

XXX

UPDATE - just dirtied it up with some dark wax

now it's my vintage backgammon game - and it's all dirty and battered from thousands of games
being played beside the fireplace on cold winter nights.......................

My dirty purse....................and I do have one

My shoulder has been hurting me badly for about a week now - it's a recurring problem that happens   periodically in the course of a year.................and I always figure it's from lugging furniture around because I can't wait for help - if no one's around I move it myself regardless of size or weight.
Anyway today I had to find something in my purse - and had to empty it to find it which is something I'm having to do more and more - and I simply cannot believe what I schlep around with me.
Unbelievable........................ridiculous to the point of (another ) disorder lurking in my life.

I mean all we really need to have in that bag is our wallet ( even that is overflowing with useless shit! )
Sunglasses - perhaps some tissues - car - house keys - lipstick - period.
Everything else can stay at home until we get back, right?

Here's what I pulled out of mine this morning

WALLET
2 PAIRS OF SUNGLASSES ( because maybe I'll lose one pair? ) and the 2 gigantic cases that go with that
4 PACKS OF GUM -  a couple of them only have 1 or 2 gums in them -
8 PENS - yeah 8 of them - because what if  7 of them ran out of ink?
MY PASSPORT - because you just never know when you may have to hop on a plane
6 HAND SANITIZERS - which I have to use just for putting my hands in this filthy bag
AT LEAST 30 PAINT SWATCHES all neatly fastened together with an elastic band
A PACKAGE OF BANDAIDS - keep in mind my kids are all grown -
TOOTH BRUSH - TOOTHPASTE - DENTAL FLOSS ( 4 pks of dental floss )- ok the dental floss is a good thing but I have never, not once, in the 25 years I have been carrying these items - brushed my teeth
in a public restroom - I know people do it and good for them - but I have simply never done so,
nor do I suppose I ever will - what the hell do I keep carrying them for -
6 LIPSTICKS - starting to notice a pattern here?  I can never just have one of anything
3 EYELINERS
4 EYESHADOWS -
2 TAMPONS - have not had a period in years - but hey you never know - the clock may
reverse one day - and I may be wearing white - and Oh God - where are those emergency
tampons when I need them?
AN EMERGANCY KOTEX PAD - what the hell? I never even used them when I could have -
but again they can be used as a bandage in an emergency - but I swear I never put that in my purse.
AN ADDRESS BOOK - lmao - who the hell has an address book in their purse anymore - and it's
so old most of the numbers no longer exist - and they're all on my cell phone anyways.
CELL PHONE
3 COMPACT MIRRORS ( so I can see my nose from all angles? )
2 RER TRAIN TICKETS FROM.....................Paris - last trip was 2 years ago
3 EMERY BOARDS
ENOUGH CHANGE TO PROBABLY PAY MY MORTGAGE OFF - in pennies
A GROCERY BAG WITH A PAIR OF FLIP FLOPS ( and the car always has 3 or 4 pairs
of shoes laying on the floor )
A PAINT LID OPENER ( so that's where it was - I've been using a butter knife to open my
paint cans )
20 REDUNDANT BUSINESS CARDS - the ones I should have in my purse are on my desk

Do you think this may be the source of my shoulder problem?
And it gets better
Whenever John and I go out - he always asks if he can put his cigars in my purse - and I always
think Ok - this just may be the straw that broke Suzan's back - literally.

I've gotten better - when I was younger I used to carry my curling iron around with me - and now
I'll let you in on another secret - dating myself dreadfully again but here goes,
When I was 5 or 6 Chatty Cathy was a BIG thing...................and I used to stuff her in my school
bag and carry her with me to school and back placed in between my books, so this problem is not a new one-

It's time for change Suzan -
I'm cleaning out my purse today..................I think at this point it's the only way I'm ever going to lose
weight anyway

Hugs,
Moi

It's 5 o'clock somewhere....................

Oh God, it's great to be back - my fingers have been itching - let's see, when we left off I had posted about this

which was the bottom part of an old T.V. armoire we had a long time ago - and wasn't sure if I should
go shabby chic with it or reupholster.....................well I sat and  stared at it for a little while ( because that's what I do - I sit and stare at furniture until the idea comes to me ) and while I was sitting and staring and doing nothing I looked up at the clock on the mantel ( to see how long I had been unproductive for ) and an idea was born............

I painted a coat of old white in ASCP - and then used my " template "

traced my circle around this clock - oh at around 5 to 7 or so, lol

unless you have my clock - and my charger plate and my anchovy decoration you will not be able to
make this - so sorry..............................

this is where I work a little backwards ( did I ever mention that I always paint my ceilings last - ALWAYS - no exceptions to that rule ) so.............. most people would paint the entire top black or at least a good section of it - place their stickers on top - and then repaint the white - not me - that would be far too simple and I really enjoy messing with my brain - I find it challenging.  I painted little patches where I prayed the
stickers would have enough room to go on....................( do you see my pencil lines on the inside of the circle? very picasso like right? ) Once I removed the stickers I had this....................

I wish I hadn't done that ridiculous fancy schmancy thing in the middle - overkill - anyway this
is what it came out looking like - too pristine really - so out comes the sanding paper ( that's so
worn down it's amazing I was able to sand it at all - note to self - GET SOME MORE SANDING
PAPER ) here it is sanded

make me a hurricane before I go insane
it's only half past 12 but I don't care.........................

and a couple of close ups

and done.........................

I still have to put wheels on the legs to give it a little extra height - but the ones I wanted
to use won't do .................so for now she is fait accomplis..

AVANT ( encore )

APRES

oh and then because of my OCD - I made did this one for my daughter - just reversed the colors

my son brought it to me for Sunday dinner - I know I know some moms get flowers or a bottle of
wine - but they are such thoughtless gifts, right - I mean how thoughtful can he get - he literally plucked it off the street lol - hey Mom - can you do something with this?
Yes sweetheart - I think I can - thank you very much.

Ok - time for a glass of vino -
It's 5 o'clock somewhere
