A Friday Chat ( about this & that )

I read the news today - oh boy .................................

WINTER = SNOWSTORMS = SNOW REMOVAL = VIOLENCE

source
Police in Massachusetts say a 61-year-old woman attacked her neighbor with a handheld snowblower during the winter storm on Tuesday, MyFoxBoston reports.
Barbara Davis, of Arlington, was arrested when authorities responding to reports of an assault in progress found her allegedly harming her 60-year-old neighbor. Police said the two women had a longstanding dispute.
Arlington Police Chief Frederick Ryan was not amused.
“Emotions may run high during a historic weather event like the blizzard we just endured, but that is no excuse for violence,” Ryan said, according to CBS Boston. “We are supposed to come together as a community during events like this, and I am very disappointed with these allegations.”
The victim, who police did not name, previously filed a restraining order against Davis. She was treated for minor injuries.
Davis was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, violation of a harassment protection order, and mayhem.

ROCHESTER, N.H. (AP) -- A New Hampshire woman got a surprise at a Burger King drive-thru: a bag full of cash instead of food.
Janelle Jones says she discovered on the way home that the bag did not contain the sweet tea and junior spicy chicken sandwich that she had ordered Friday at the Rochester fast-food restaurant.
Foster's Daily Democrat ( http://bit.ly/1EEYFl9 ) reports that Jones called her husband and they decided to return the $2,631, which was a Burger King bank deposit.
Matthew Jones says the couple briefly considered keeping the money, which they certainly could have used. But he says he and his wife are Jehovah's Witnesses, and that "Jehovah sees everything."

TORONTO (Reuters) - A Canadian man who was denied part of a C$27 million jackpot because he missed the deadline to buy the ticket by seven seconds has lost his appeal to get the money.

The Supreme Court of Canada ruling on Thursday ended a seven-year legal battle by Joel Ifergan, an accountant, to claim his share of the prize.

Ifergan went to a local convenience store just before 9 p.m. on May 23, 2008, to purchase tickets for that night's "Lotto Super 7" drawing. The store clerk told him to hurry before the 9 p.m. deadline, according to a court summary.

While the clock on the lottery terminal read 8:59 p.m., only one of the two tickets was registered in time. The second ticket, the winning one, was printed and registered on the Loto-Quebec computer at seven seconds after 9 p.m., eligible for the following week's drawing.

The store clerk told Ifergan that only one ticket was registered in time and asked if he still wanted to buy the second ticket. Ifergan said he did, and paid for both.

After he was denied half of the lottery jackpot, which was awarded to another winner, Ifergan sued Loto-Quebec for the processing lag.

The case has been working its way through Canada's courts. The Supreme Court did not comment on the case.

Now I lay me down to sleep

I thought I'd share something I purchased last June ( I waited this long to because I wanted to see how well it held up )

This is not a sponsored post - but it's such an incredible product that I wanted to let you all know about it !

It's a 3 inch memory foam mattress topper - and I swear to you it's exactly like sleeping on a memory foam
mattress.

I paid around 130.00 for it - which may be a little pricey for a mattress topper - but it's extremely cheap for a new mattress - which is what it feels like !

7 months later it's exactly how it was when I first took it out of its package - amazing!

I no longer wake up with aches - at all !

I remember it had a weird odor when we first got it - but it disappeared after a day or two - other than that
this is as close to a perfect night's sleep as I can recall having in a long time ( when I actually can go to sleep
because it doesn't cure insomnia unfortunately )

A reader just asked for the link so I'm going to include it
Tested and highly recommended - you can order it from Amazon ( affiliated link ) HERE

In fact if anyone is looking to buy a new mattress, I'd suggest trying this out first and taking a vacation with the money  you save !

Sharing is caring, right?

Have a wonderful day everyone
Much love,

THIS IS WHAT WINTER LOOKS LIKE

The North East States had a blizzard this week
Now maybe I'm being a bit cocky because it completely bypassed Montreal ( for a change )
BUT - I can't believe the 24 hour ( + ) coverage that went on about a winter storm ( key word being WINTER )

Snowmageddon?

Nah...............c'mon guys, it's a winter snow storm - it's not a phenomenal occurrence - it's a perfectly natural one.
My heart aches for those that lose power - because that's no picnic ( believe me I know )
But other than that?
Take the day off if you have to - but also take a moment to peek outside - OR better yet take a walk in it -because it can truly be a magnificent site to behold !

I had to giggle when all the reporters were spreading panic and they stopped someone on the street - and they just shrugged and said " it's winter "  leaving the reporter looking a little defeated LOL

Built In Plans.............................

When we moved in last winter this room off the entrance way was closed off - making it feel narrow and dark.
This is on the left side when you enter the house - the living room is on the right
We opened it up to create a small den ( more like a t.v nook really )  directly across from the living room - and to allow much needed light to flow through this ( kind of ) dark house.
( you can see the first set of built ins we tried in the photo - let's just say that was a trial run and now we've learned what NOT to do - )

But we never finished it ...................

For many many months now it's looked like this ( this house has very high ceilings )

I try not to look up as much as I can ......................but I'm developing a hunch in my back from staring at the floor so it's time to do something about it now.

Except I wasn't sure what I wanted to do - and to be honest with you there's been so much work going on everywhere else in this house that it just kept getting pushed and pushed further back -
I'd come up with an idea and then work on gutting out another room - and so on and so on - but this weekend it hit me - out of the blue - more built ins - but this time framing the doorway !
( I think this will be the Maison du Livres - House of Books lol )

Here's some inspiration I've found

I love them all - but this one is my all time favorite - I wonder how hard it would be to install an arched wall and surrounding book shelves?
( it's not happening lol )

So there you have it - I've added on to the 354 projects lined up for this year
( and even then this place won't be finished )

Here's a close up of the first set - you can see more of it here
The next one will have a lot of crown molding and more substance involved ( I hope LOL )

Have a wonderful Monday all !
Much love,
Me
